Lake Forest's Gorton Center begins its summer 2025 season on June 20
The Gorton Center in Lake Forest will feature entertainment for all ages this summer. 'We have such a wide range of who we're trying to serve,' explained Director of Events Ann Wildman. 'We always try to keep a diverse mix. I look at different demographics and different genres.' The season starts at 7:30 p.m. on June 20 with Dueling Pianos, featuring Pianomonium. 'It's a fun, comedic event with audience participation,' Wildman said. She noted that this is primarily adult entertainment. Tickets are $21-$33.60. Long-time dueling piano pros Mike Sherman and Robert Deason have been performing as Pianomonium for two years. 'We're very funny together,' Sherman said. 'We engage with each other onstage. It's almost like we're siblings. There's a lot of bickering and messing with each other while we take requests and play the songs for the audience.' The first act of the show is preplanned. 'It's a lot of performance pieces, a lot of greatest hits — Billy Joel, Elton John, Queen, Bon Jovi,' Sherman said. At intermission, the audience members are invited to come on the stage and write on a piece of paper the pieces they want the duo to play. 'Then we come back for act two and it's nonstop chaos,' Sherman reported. 'We play everything, mashing songs up — weird, silly things. We crush out as many songs as we can for that second half of the show.' It helps that the duo knows thousands of songs, Sherman revealed. Chris Stapleton Tribute: Tennessee Whiskey will perform at 4 p.m. on June 29. Wildman said that this group has 'broad appeal to all generations, with the hope that families will come and bring their young kids.' Tickets are $15.75-$26.25. Rich Sawyer formed Tennessee Whiskey in 2022 with local Chicago musicians. 'Our intention was to do six shows a year,' Sawyer said. 'Once the word got out, it started to get legs of its own and grow. We have traveled the country. We've done shows in Vegas, and we're going to be in the Hamptons this summer.' Sawyer said that the songs that get the biggest reaction from audiences include 'Tennessee Whiskey,' 'White Horse,' and 'Fire Away.' They end concerts with a sing-along of that last number. 'Everybody gets their phone lights out,' Sawyer said. 'That's usually so loud.' Sawyer concluded that the Gorton Center show 'will be the closest thing to going to a Chris Stapleton concert.' Back by popular demand is the Cornhole Classic and Concert on July 13 from 4-7 p.m. 'It will be the fourth year for that,' Wildman said. 'It's a fun community event. And now we're going to have a VIP lounge.' It will include sofas and a private bar. Tickets are $10.50, $63 for Competitive Division Team, and $1,000 for VIP tickets. Kids will take a trip in song and dance to Miss Jamie's Farm at 10:30 a.m. on July 19. 'We love to always have good family and young children programming,' Wildman said. Tickets are $10.50. 'I've been doing this for 11 years, and I've been doing five hundred shows a year for many years,' said Jamie Martin, who is known professionally as Miss Jamie. Martin was inspired to share her love of farming with audiences because she grew up on a 600-acre goat and cattle ranch in a small town in Texas. 'It was such an amazing childhood, exploring the creeks and hanging out with the goats, climbing trees, and getting dirty,' Martin said. 'Enjoying time with animals and enjoying time with nature was foundational for me. I hope I can bring a little bit of that old-fashioned life to the kids in the city and beyond.' Martin will be joined by her band. 'The show is mostly nursery rhymes turned farm,' Martin explained. 'We do go on a magical journey of their imagination where we get on a school bus and pretend we're going to the farm.' Once there, they get to imagine they are animals. 'Pre-K to second-graders love this show,' Martin noted. 'It's very engaging. It's very physically active.' The kids will learn about where our food comes from and other farm facts. 'But mostly it's singing and dancing and using their imagination,' Martin concluded. The series closes on July 27 at 4 p.m. with folk music storyteller Pierce Pettis. 'He appeals to those people who enjoy indie singer-songwriters,' Wildman said. Tickets are $26.25. Gorton Center is at 400 E. Illinois Road in Lake Forest. For tickets, call 847-234-6060 or visit

Generate Key Takeaways The Voice Season 27 advanced to the "Playoffs" stage of the competition on Monday. In this round, each coach brings their team of five to the stage for a single performance that will determine which two move on the live shows. By the end of the round's 20 performances, only eight artists will remain in the competition. Mega Mentors Sheryl Crow and LeAnn Rimes assisted Team Kelsea Ballerini and Team Adam Levine in the rehearsals leading up to the April 28 episode. Michael Buble, Adam Levine, Kelsea Ballerini, John Legend, and Carson Daly on The Voice (Photo credit: Tyler Golden/NBC) SEE 'The Voice' showrunner Audrey Morrissey wants Adele as a coach: 'She would slay' More from GoldDerby Team Kelsea The five performances for Team Kelsea were Iris Herrera with "White Horse" by Chris Stapleton, Jaelen Johnston singing "If You're Reading This" by Tim McGraw, Alanna Lynise singing "Nobody Gets Me" by SZA, Tinika Wyatt with "I Can Only Imagine" by MercyMe, and Darius J on "Hey Ya!" by Outkast. During rehearsals with Sheryl, she was impressed by the "huge voice" of Iris and backed up Kelsea's advice for Jaelen to not rework the song too much because he wants the audience to recognize it. Sheryl recognized that Alanna "deeply feels" a song when she performs it, was in love with the "beautiful" song choice Tinika made to inspire people, and agreed that "comparison is the thief of joy" and that Darius should be proud of how unique he is. Following their stage performances, John Legend told Iris that her voice was "shredding," Adam appreciated that Jaelen is "different within the category [he] exists in," and John said that Alanna has the "right voice, right approach, and right musicality" to be a superstar. Michael Bublé thanked Tinika for her "rich and textured and gorgeous" performance and was excited and "inspired" by Darius for putting a retro spin on an unexpected contemporary song. Alanna Lynise on The Voice (Photo credit: Greg Gayne/NBC) Kelsea thought that Iris did "the best [she's] ever done it," loved that Jaelen "stayed true to the heart" of his song choice and thinks country music will be proud of him, and recognized and appreciated all of the hard work that Alanna put in to making her performance perfect. Kelsea was grateful that Tinika "used [her] space" on the stage to worship and said that she "blessed a lot of people" and said she's "like a moth to a flame" with Darius because he "makes everyone feel like a warm hug." Faced with the decision to choose only two to represent her team in the live shows, Kelsea picked Iris and Alanna to advance. Iris Herrera on The Voice (Photo credit: Greg Gayne/NBC) Team Adam The five performances for Team Adam were Lucia Flores-Wiseman singing "In My Life," Conor James doing "Pink Pony Club" by Chappell Roan, Kolby Cordell with "Finesse" by Bruno Mars, Ethan Eckenroad on "The Night We Met" by Lord Huron, and Britton Moore with "Somewhere Only We Know" by Keane. During the rehearsal sessions, LeAnn warned Lucia about the notes she was "squeezing" off in the vocal, coached Conor through moving lyrics around to find room for his breath, and wanted Kolby to be "playful and flirt" by mixing up the melody in new ways. LeAnn wanted Ethan to focus on projecting his voice by making sure his "voice is supported by air" and urged Britton to find the "dynamics" in his performance because he was "beautifully sitting in one area" otherwise. Following their stage performances, John noted that Lucia's gift was "shining through" her and said she "deserves to have a major career" and referenced Conor being in his element with his song choice because it felt like he was on stage in a musical. Michael called Kolby "one of the great contenders" that could win the whole show and Kelsea likened Ethan's voice to Benson Boone and Hozier in that rock Americana style. Michael loved Britton's interpretation of his song because it showed his range. Lucia Flores-Wiseman on The Voice (Photo credit: Greg Gayne/NBC) Adam called Lucia's artistry "refreshingly yours" because she's a "singular" artist on her own level, thought Conor made a good choice with his song because he "established his own identity," and said that Kolby's performance "shot up" to the top of the pack in the whole competition. Adam acknowledged that Ethan chose a "simple" song but did a great job on it and told Britton he chose a difficult song and still managed to put his mark on it. When it came time for Adam to choose two artists to advance, he picked Lucia and Kolby to represent his team in the lives. Kolby Cordell on The Voice (Photo credit: Greg Gayne/NBC) The updated teams are: TEAM LEGEND — Ari Camille, Bryson Battle, Olivia Kuper Harris, Renzo TEAM BUBLÉ — Adam David, Angie Rey, Barry Jean Fontenot, Jadyn Cree, Kaiya Hamilton TEAM KELSEA — Alanna Lynise, Iris Herrera TEAM ADAM — Kolby Cordell, Lucia Flores-Wiseman The four-time Emmy Award-winning musical competition series The Voice is in its 27th season featuring five stages of competition: Blind Auditions, Battle Rounds, Knockouts, Playoffs and Live Performance Shows. In the coaches' chairs, Michael is the defending champion after winning Season 26. He is joined by John, in his 10th season, and Kelsea, competing for the first time. Adam rejoined the panel of coaches for his 17th season after taking a hiatus following Season 16. Banbury marks 20th anniversary of the Fine Lady statue
A town has marked twenty years since the unveiling of one of its most iconic Village Morris danced around the Fine Lady on a White Horse and people laid bouquets of flowers to celebrate its unveiling on South Bar, opposite Banbury Cross in Oxfordshire, on 27 April is depicted as a Queen of the May with wild roses and daffodils in her crown and commemorates a nursery rhyme which has made the town famous throughout the Rosy Burke, who was part of the long campaign to get the statue made, said the statue was "full of meaning". The planning of the statue endured planning battles and critics thought it a waste of money. Ms Burke said it took about six years to raise the money and create efforts paid off and Princess Anne delivered a speech at the unveiling, saying it "reflects a very fine piece of art which we will all be proud of in the future"."And the extraordinary fame that Banbury has not just in the United Kingdom but around the world because of those few famous lines," she added, referring to the Ride A Cock Horse To Banbury Cross nursery rhyme. Ms Burke said at that moment she had had "tears running down my cheeks". "All the traffic had been stopped all the way round Banbury Cross and there were thousands of people there, all leaning up on ladders and trying to see the princess."And there were beautiful April showers ... the church bells were ringing, it was absolutely splendid." The sculpture portrays the lady scattering petals upon the people of Banbury to bring them good luck and fertility. "She's riding this enormous male stallion and he's pawing the ground impatiently," Ms Burke added that the statue was "full of meaning", having thirteen flowers in the crown for the ancient months of the her visiting the sculptors to choose the pattern with the committee, she had given them a bunch of daffodils as a gift."One of the sculptors dipped one of the strappy leaves into wax and embedded it in the wax crown he was creating."We embedded lucky horse shoes under each one of the horse's feet, there's butterflies and moths and a little frog down at a low level for children which represents community." The Voice Recap: Night 1 of the Playoffs Eliminates Half a Dozen Singers — Including Two Standouts
It was decision time for Kelsea Ballerini and Adam Levine in Monday's episode of The Voice as Season 27's Playoffs forced them to cut their five-member teams down to two contestants apiece. (John Legend and Michael Bublé land in the hot seat next Monday.) After hearing the performances, I thought that the coaches' decisions would be pretty cut-and-dry. But no, as always, they surprised me. (It that a contractual obligation?) Read on, and we'll discuss how it all went down. TEAM KELSEA BALLERINI More from TVLine Exiting Chicago Fire Star Jake Lockett Will 'Miss the Hell Out Of' NBC Series Fox's Rescue HI-Surf Is the Show You Most Want to See Renewed! See Complete TVLine Poll Results In Dark Winds Season Finale, Leaphorn Once Again Got His Man, But Is Left to Ponder All He Has Lost Iris Herrera, 'White Horse' (Grade: B+) | On Chris Stapleton's hit, Iris served rock-star realness, turning her rasp up to 11 and looking as comfortable on stage as a guest artist rather a contestant singing for her life. She got a little messy at the end, but even that worked; rock-'n'-roll's supposed to be out of control, right? Jaelen Johnston, 'If You're Reading This' (Grade: A-) | Though I was pretty salty when Kelsea kept Jaelen over Hailey Wright in the Knockouts, his take on Tim McGraw's heart-tugger made me altogether regret being so crankypants. His performance was stunning — nuanced, emotional, damn near perfect. Alanna Lynise, 'Nobody Gets Me' (Grade: A) | Damn! Alanna navigated SZA's hella-complicated ballad with just incredible finesse. Her vocal dipped and soared, and every step of the way, she looked utterly engaged. 'I believe in you so much,' her coach exclaimed afterward. After that performance, how could anyone not? Tinika Wyatt, 'I Can Only Imagine' (Grade: A+) | 'Pristine' is the best word I can think of to describe Tinika's MercyMe cover. She started off so note-perfect, you could've convinced me that she was AI-generated. But as the song grew and she unleashed her passion, I was knocked all the way out by the emotion her powerful pipes packed. Darius J, 'Hey Ya!' (Grade: B-) | Before hitting the stage, Darius said that he wanted to milk every moment for maximum fun — and he definitely showed us a good time. The guy is a party in a wide-brimmed hat. But vocally speaking, and it pains me to say it, he was shown up by the rest of Kelsea's team. Advanced to the Semi-Finals | Iris Herrera, Alanna Lynise Eliminated | Jaelen Johnston, Tinika Wyatt, Darius J TEAM ADAM LEVINE Lucia Flores-Wiseman, 'In My Life' (Grade: A+) | From note No. 1, I was like, 'Oh my God!' Lucia was so very much in her element that her vocal went down like the sweetest glass of lemonade you've ever heard. If that makes any sense. Even if it doesn't, the takeaway here is that her performance was beyond flawless. Conor James, 'Pink Pony Club' (Grade: B-) | I was really taken with the light touch that Conor brought to the opening lines of Chappell Roan's smash but couldn't help noticing that there was no light in his eyes, no intention. And as song got bigger and bigger, I felt like Conor's vocal became less and less impressive. Kolby Cordell, 'Finesse' (Grade: B-) | Man, I really wanted to love Kolby's Bruno Mars cover. But it was a mixed bag. On one hand, he brought a lot of energy to the stage. On the other, his vocal went back and forth from genuinely exciting to unfortunately disappointing. Perhaps a case of good singer, questionable song selection? Ethan Eckenroad, 'The Night We Met' (Grade: A) | Like Lucia, Ethan is a total original. On Lord Huron's ballad, he made a compelling case for why he should advance (even if, as John Legend noted, he 'meandered' on stage). Every note that he sang felt like it was soaked through with feeling, whether he sang it in a whisper or all but roared. Britton Moore, 'Somewhere Only We Know' (Grade: B) | Britton acquitted himself nicely on his Keane cover but also also teed up a reminder that he is very young and still has some room to grow. (Poor kid looked scared s—tless.) He could become the next Shawn Mendes, he just isn't quite there yet. Advanced to the Semi-Finals | Lucia Flores-Wiseman, Kolby Cordell Eliminated | Conor James, Ethan Eckenroad, Britton Moore So, how are we feeling about Kelsea and Adam's decisions? I was shocked that Kelsea cut Jaelen; not only had he given a strong performance, but he was the last country artist in the competition. Seemed like a questionable strategy to me. And what the hell else could Tinika have done to impress her coach? She brought the house down! As for Adam, as enamored of Ethan as he was, I was stunned that he got the chop — and for Kolby? He'd given an energetic performance, for sure, and he's a likable fella, but is he The Voice? Eh, not so sure about that.
