Wolfmother announce Dublin's Academy show for July
Grammy Award-winning Australian hard rock band Wolfmother have now announced a headline Academy, Dublin show set for Tuesday, July 1 2025. Described as 'pledging allegiance to thick, throttling fuzz guitars, primal psychedelia, and thundering rhythms,' Wolfmother 'split the difference between the classic sludge of Black Sabbath and the retro-garage rock of the White Stripes'. The band formed in 2004 in Sydney, and has since released six studio albums and received a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance for their 2007 track Woman. Around March 2020, the world took a break from live music with the onset of a worldwide pandemic. When the world stage shut down, Wolfmother's Andrew Stockdale took to the home studio playing all of the instruments, crafting out the band's 6th studio album, Rock Out. Tickets for Wolfmother's gig in Dublin's Academy go on sale this Monday at 10 am here.

André 3000 Releases Instrumental Project ‘7 Piano Sketches'
André 3000 has released a collection of piano instrumental tracks entitled '7 Piano Sketches.' The musician released the project just before walking the carpet at the Met Gala with a full piano strapped to his back. '7 Piano Sketches' was partially composed and recorded before 2023's instrumental flute album 'New Blue Sun,' which went on to earn a nomination for album of the year at the 2025 Grammy Awards. André conceptualized the project almost a decade ago while staying with his son at a house in Texas that only had a piano, their beds and TV screens. Stream '7 Piano Sketches' here. In a statement accompanying the project, André said, 'The original title for it was 'The Best Worst Rap Album In History' and here is an excerpt from the original liner notes: 'It's jokingly the worst rap album in history because there are no lyrics on it at all. It's the best because it's the free-est emotionally and best I've felt personally. It's the best because it's like a palette cleanser for me.'' The release comes shortly after the news that Outkast, his duo alongside Big Boi, will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside Cyndi Lauper, White Stripes, Chubby Checker, Warren Zevon and more. André last released 'New Blue Sun' in Nov. 2023, a surprise to fans who were expecting another rap album from the musician. Speaking with Variety shortly after his Grammy nominations for the project, he explained that he followed his instincts to put the album together. 'I'm used to people feeling a way, but at the same time, it's just proof for me that I can only do what I'm into,' he said. 'I think that's why I'm here. I get up on trying to expand myself. I have to be fun and be into what I'm doing. That's it.' 'I've shown I can still play here' - is De Bruyne leaving too soon?
As the White Stripes hit Seven Nation Army pumped out over the Etihad Stadium speakers at full-time on Friday night, Manchester City supporters sang the name of hero Kevin de Bruyne to that very midfielder is bidding an emotional farewell after 11 trophy-laden years at the club, and the Belgian soaked up the acclaim by taking the long route around the pitch before heading down the 33-year-old will be disappearing for good when his City contract expires in the summer, but here he was able to enjoy another deserved moment in the limelight - his penultimate game at the Bruyne struck the only goal in the 1-0 Premier League victory against in-form Wolves, which may ensure City play Champions League football next midfielder said last month he was surprised not to be offered a new contract - and wanted to make a point about his abilities after the game."I don't know about the future unfortunately," a serious-looking De Bruyne told Sky Sports. "I have shown I can still play here, otherwise I don't do what I do these last four or five weeks."A lot of team-mates have spoken to me, they are sad also that I have to go. It goes like this in life, but the way I am performing is the way I should be."I just try to play as well as I can. I have one game left here. I try to do my job as always and I did that. I am proud of what I am doing." 'Just thank you' to De Bruyne, says Guardiola De Bruyne will undoubtedly go down as one of the Premier League's best midfielders when he departs in the former Chelsea and Wolfsburg player has stacked his trophy cabinet by winning all there is to win at City - an impressive haul of 16 trophies.A succession of injuries have taken their toll, and De Bruyne's influence on the pitch appears to be waning by not being the pass-master of he showed a glimpse of what he is still capable off by converting a cool, first-time finish from Jeremy Doku's skipper was afforded a standing ovation when he was replaced by Phil Foden with six minutes to go, and was given a pat on the head by Guardiola after coming off."Just thank you," Guardiola told Sky Sports. "His contribution in the game against Crystal Palace when we were 2-0 down and he delivers, and today the goal again."I am happy that it is finishing that way, and we have one more game in the Etihad."I want the best for Kevin so it cannot be possible to have done these many years without him. He has been an incredible player - but the situation is what it is."It's almost impossible to replace this kind of player. It is not just the performance, it is what he means to the heart for our fans for many, many years. The success we have belongs to the players."Guardiola added: "I am pretty sure it is not easy for him but the goal was massively important for us - it lifted our spirits."He does not have to prove anything. I know his quality, his level." No new contract 'a business decision' De Bruyne's final home game will come against Bournemouth on 20 May, with away matches to play at Southampton and he can ensure a dream ending if City beat Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final at Wembley."Maybe he is still good enough to play here," said former Manchester City defender Micah Richards."Maybe he hasn't the press, but quality - he believes he can still play at the top level. He has said he is playing injury-free now."Age catches up though with you, and your body can't do what you want to do. But he keeps the ball and his football intelligence is still there. He is telling the club 'I can still play at this level'."I am talking as a fan, and I am a fan of KDB. Something in me just says 'one more year' - he can still do it. Maybe it is just a business decision."Does Richards have a point?De Bruyne has scored 30 Premier League goals since turning 30 years old, with Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure the only players to score more for City with 41 became the first player since the great Lionel Messi to register 250 goal involvements under Guardiola, with 92 goals and 158 assists in nine Wolves will be glad to see the back of De Bruyne as the midfielder has now scored six goals and provided five assists in 11 league games against over the past two seasons, the Belgian has made just 43 Premier League appearances because of a series of Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher said De Bruyne is still "levels above the elite players in the world", adding: "He doesn't think he has finished at the top level. "He still thinks he can play at the top level of European football. I thought maybe he would go to Saudi Arabia or America, but after hearing him speak, it sounds like he isn't ready for that."He is one of the highest-paid players in world football and has been injured a lot. It has been hard to justify giving him a new deal from a business point of view. He is still a star player but he is not going to play every week."Let's talk about the statue - for me he is Manchester City's greatest ever player."

How many Detroit artists are in the R&R Hall of Fame? After some dispute, here's an answer
When the White Stripes were named Sunday night among the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's 2025 inductees, there was plenty of celebration from Detroit music fans. But some of those folks had a bone to pick with the Detroit Free Press. We had described the White Stripes as Detroit's 22nd inductee, complete with a list of those 22 artists, a rundown that starts with the Class of 1987's Aretha Franklin. "Where's the MC5?" asked many who scanned the list, recalling that band's entry into the rock hall last October. Similar questions came in about Motown's Norman Whitfield, who was honored the same night. Readers were especially perplexed by the omissions because the Free Press had extensively covered that very ceremony last fall. Yes, the MC5 and Whitfield weren't in Sunday's list of 22. But there is an explanation — even if, like all things Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, it's ripe for debate. It's a running tab the Free Press has maintained for many years now. We've updated it each time a hometown artist gets inducted into the rock hall's prestigious performer wing. The performer field is the one that dominates headlines every year, accompanied by the requisite cheers and arguments among music fans worldwide. More: The White Stripes headed to Rock & Roll Hall of Fame; 22nd Detroit act to be inducted More: From fan to family: A son discovers his father — and a link to a Detroit rock legacy But beyond that main tier, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has some supplemental categories, like the Award for Musical Excellence — the honor bestowed last year on Whitfield and the MC5. The award was established in 2000 under the name Sidemen, with Motown bassist James Jamerson among the inaugural honorees. When it was rebranded 10 years later with the 'Musical Excellence' banner, RRHOF officials said it was a way to recognize musicians who might not otherwise get their flowers. That eventually benefited the MC5: After six unsuccessful nominations in the performer field, the late-great Detroit band was finally ushered into the hall of fame via the Musical Excellence category. And while it might not be evident when watching the RRHOF's annual ceremony — where Musical Excellence awardees get less pomp and circumstance than others — officials say those recipients are considered fully vested hall of fame inductees. The number 22 is impressive enough, signifying Detroit's mammoth contribution to music history. (At one point in the early '90s, Motor City artists constituted more than one-fifth of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's total body of performer inductees.) Still, the Free Press will rethink this one going forward. We certainly don't want to downplay the full scope of Detroit's hall of fame presence. So as of late April 2025, here's your total number: 29. Below is the list of all the Detroit-related groups and individuals who have made the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame via one route or another. Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Bad Company, Cyndi Lauper and Outkast get into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
This combination of photos shows Cubby Checker at the Songwriters Hall of Fame Awards in New York on June 12, 2014, left, British singer Joe Cocker performing in Monaco on Aug. 5, 2011, center, and Cyndi Lauper at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York on Sept. 12, 2021. (AP Photo) By MARK KENNEDY First-time nominees Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker and Bad Company will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, a class that also includes pop star Cyndi Lauper, the hip-hop pioneers Outkast, the rock duo the White Stripes and grunge masters Soundgarden. Salt-N-Pepa, the first female rap act to achieve gold and platinum status, and the late singer-songwriter Warren Zevon will get the Musical Influence Award. The late record producer Thom Bell, pianist Nicky Hopkins and bassist Carol Kaye will each get the Musical Excellence Award. The late Cocker, who sang at Woodstock and was best known for his cover of The Beatles' 'With a Little Help From My Friends,' had the backing of Billy Joel, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top and Pete Thomas, a member of Elvis Costello & The Attractions, who argued that Cocker is "about as rock and roll as it gets.' Soundgarden — with the late Chris Cornell as singer — get into the Hall on their third nomination. They follow two other grunge acts in the Hall — Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Bad Company get in having become radio fixtures with such arena-rock staples as 'Feel Like Makin' Love,' 'Can't Get Enough' and 'Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy.' The Ahmet Ertegun Award — given to nonperforming industry professionals who had a major influence on music — will go to Lenny Waronker, a former head of Warner Bros. Records who signed Prince and R.E.M., and had a part in records from Madonna, Randy Newman, the Doobie Brothers, Rickie Lee Jones, Paul Simon and Gary Clark Jr. Some nominees that didn't get in this year include Mariah Carey, Phish, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Maná, the Black Crowes and Oasis. Checker's recording of 'The Twist,' and subsequent 'Let's Twist Again' are considered among the most popular songs in the history of rock 'n' roll. The 83-year-old has expressed frustration that he hadn't been granted entry before, including telling the AP in 2014: 'I don't want to get in there when I'm 85 years old. I'll tell them to drop dead, so you better do it quick while I'm still smiling.' Lauper rose to fame in the 1980s with hits such as 'Time After Time' and 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun' and went on to win a Tony Award for 'Kinky Boots.' OutKast, made up of André 3000 and Big Boi, have six Grammys and a reputation for pushing the boundaries of hip-hop. The White Stripes — made up of Jack White and Meg White — were indie darlings in the early 2000s with such songs as 'Seven Nation Army.' Artists must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years before they're eligible for induction. The induction ceremony will take place in Los Angeles this fall. Nominees were voted on by more than 1,200 artists, historians and music industry professionals. The selection criteria include 'an artist's impact on other musicians, the scope and longevity of their career and body of work, as well as their innovation and excellence in style and technique.' Last year, Mary J. Blige,Cher, Foreigner, A Tribe Called Quest, Kool & The Gang, Ozzy Osbourne, Dave Matthews Band and singer-guitarist Peter Frampton all were inducted. © Copyright 2025 The Associated Press.
