Fourth person charged in February shooting death of Cape Breton man

(Ryan MacDonald/CTV Atlantic) A fourth person has been charged in connection with the shooting death of a 44-year-old man in Whitney Pier, N.S., earlier this year. Christopher Anderson Neville, 49, was arrested in Halifax on Thursday. He has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Jeffrey Pearson and will appear in provincial court on Friday. Cape Breton Regional Police Service responded to a home on Shore Road around 12:45 a.m. on Feb. 22, after multiple gunshots were reported in the area. A man was reported running from the home and a white truck was spotting leaving the scene. An officer tried to stop the truck on Cow Bay Road in Sydney and the people inside allegedly fled into a nearby wooded area. Three men were found in an apartment complex and arrested. An emergency alert was also activated as police tried to find the suspects. Police announced the next day that 27-year-old Mal Chol, Goaner Mark Tut, 20, and Letjor Geng, 19, were charged with first-degree murder in Pearson's death. All three were from outside the Maritimes and known to police. 'To maintain the integrity of Court proceedings, no additional details can be released about the investigation,' Cape Breton Regional Police said in a news release. Fourth man charged in fatal Whitney Pier shooting

Cape Breton Regional Police have charged a fourth person in connection to a fatal shooting in Whitney Pier, N.S., in February. Christopher Anderson Neville, 49, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of 44-year-old Jeffrey Pearson. Neville is expected to appear in provincial court in Halifax on Friday. Police arrested Neville in Halifax on Thursday. In a news release, police spokesperson Desiree Magnus said no additional details will be released. In February, police were called to a home in the Shore Road area of Whitney Pier after reports of gun shots. Police say a male fled the scene along with a white truck. Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but were unsuccessful. Three people inside the vehicle fled into a wooded area. A police emergency response team, two canine units, a drone unit and other police officers searched for the suspects, who were later arrested at an apartment complex. Those suspects, three men from Alberta, have been charged with first-degree murder.

Swastika paintings found on road in Whitney Pier: Cape Breton police

Cape Breton Regional Police is investigating the painting of swastikas on Lingan Road, near Linview Drive in Whitney Pier, N.S. Police were contacted Wednesday after a resident observed the paintings. With assistance from CBRM Public Works, police say they removed the paintings immediately. Officers canvassed the area, including the Hebrew Cemetery, and found no additional damage. The incident has been referred to the Community Safety Unit for investigation. Police say they will conduct extra patrols in the area. 'Cape Breton Regional Police do not tolerate incidents of hate and takes investigation of these criminal acts very seriously,' a news release said. Nearly 100 gather for Air Cadet reunion in Cape Breton

Nearly 100 people gathered in Whitney Pier, N.S., Sunday, July 27, 2025 as part of the 587 Air Cadet Reunion. (Ryan MacDonald/CTV Atlantic) A reunion of Air Cadets from generations past took place in Cape Breton over the weekend. At least 91 people came from across Canada to gather at the Polish Village Hall in Whitney Pier, N.S., from Friday to Sunday for the 587 Air Cadet Reunion. Organizers say the reunion is a biannual event. While it is a gathering of people who met as teenagers through Air Cadets, organizers say most are now in their senior years. (Ryan MacDonald/CTV Atlantic) One attendee, Anselm Doyle of Sydney, N.S., began his career as a cadet back in 1953. The now 87-year-old grew up in Whitney Pier and said this weekend's reunion was a special homecoming, and a chance to look back on what turned out to be a long career. 'It means a lot, because I joined the squadron as a cadet,' Doyle told CTV News on Sunday. 'I came back as an officer. I served 20-some years as an officer and these people went through here over the years – you know them all.' The reunion wrapped up Sunday morning.
