Walmart challenges consumer perceptions with ‘Who Knew?' campaign
This story was originally published on Marketing Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Marketing Dive newsletter. Walmart has teamed with actors Walton Goggins and Stephanie Beatriz for a new campaign, 'Walmart. Who Knew?,' designed to challenge consumer perceptions about the big-box store, according to details shared with Marketing Dive. Goggins serves as a knowledgeable guide in a 60-second spot set to The Who's 'Who Are You' where he dishes on the various perks of shopping with Walmart. Beatriz plays a similar role in a Spanish-language ad set to Ricardo Arjona's "Quien Diría.' The effort, which is live and spans TV, online video, paid social and out-of-home ads, follows the retailer's brand refresh in January. The campaign was inspired by research indicating that while 90% of Americans live within 10 miles of a Walmart, most aren't aware of the retailer's brand evolution. Walmart is reintroducing itself to consumers who may not be aware of its full range of capabilities with its latest campaign. The effort follows the big-box store's recent brand refresh, which included a new typeface, more vibrant colors and a larger emphasis on its spark logo. The refresh also included a focus on delivering greater consistency across channels like its app and website, moves meant to support its goal of becoming a true omnichannel retailer. With its latest campaign, Walmart is highlighting features like Express Delivery and its enhanced Walmart+ membership benefits, including free delivery on a variety of items. A 60-second spot starring Goggins ('The White Lotus') begins with the star asking 'You wanna hear a secret?,' before revealing that the sauna he is sitting in is from Walmart. He goes on to appear in a variety of other scenarios, showcasing how the retailer can provide an assist. The spot ends with a voiceover that states, 'The Walmart you thought you knew is now new.' Actress Beatriz ('Brooklyn Nine-Nine') appears in a Spanish-language spot set at a gender reveal party. The star is seen explaining that, because of Walmart's speedy delivery, she is able to wait to learn what gender the baby is before purchasing a gift, which she proceeds to do after a chaotic reveal. Ahead of the campaign's launch, celebrity Paris Hilton and NBA player Russell Westbrook appeared to tease the effort with social media posts that featured blue and yellow shopping bags marked with the words 'I knew.' Walmart's effort takes a similar approach as JCPenney's 'Yes, JCPenney' campaign that launched in April. That effort, which pushes consumers to reconsider what they think they know about the 123-year-old brand, kicked off with out-of-home ads that depict stylish looks but without overt labels. Instead, they feature copy reading, 'It's from where?' and QR codes that reveal the clothing is from JCPenney. The similarities between Walmart and JCPenney's campaigns are a signal of how legacy retailers — Walmart was founded in 1962 — are attempting to stay relevant and build loyalty as shopping habits change. Walmart reported revenue of $165.6 billion during Q1 of its fiscal year 2026 ended April 30, an increase of 2.5% year over year, per an earnings statement. Its global ads business grew 50% YoY and Walmart Connect in the U.S. was up 31%. Beyond its campaign, the brand has sought to connect with consumers in other ways recently, including through the launch of its own Minecraft Java server in March as a way to link itself to the movie based on the video game property. "Who knew?" campaign casts Walmart in fresh light
Man-of-the-moment Walton Goggins is stepping up as Walmart's new hype man in fresh ads featuring an earworm track from The Who. The company revealed the image campaign featuring the on-trend actor at its annual associates pep rally in Fayetteville on Friday. "The Tonight Show" host Jimmy Fallon emceed the event. The big picture: The world's largest retailer, long known as a low-price leader, now also wants to be known for its near-limitless selection and ability to deliver items — fast. Goggins — known most recently for " The White Lotus," " The Righteous Gemstones" and " Fallout" — made an appearance at the campaign reveal. "[I may] change my last name to Walton, so I'll be the only Walton Walton here," he joked. State of play: Goggins is the nonchalant hero-in-the-know throughout one ad showing off some of the half a billion products available through the retail giant. A home sauna? Yes. Bear spray? You bet. Dancing shoes? Of course. The Who's 1978 rock anthem " Who Are You" plays prominently in the background, and supporting actors declare, "Who knew?" "Who-knew, who-knew," one sings. Spanish-language ads will feature comedic actress Stephanie Beatriz. What they're saying: "The role of this campaign is to really change perceptions that people have of the Walmart they think they know … to a [multichannel] retailer that has a broad assortment and can deliver to you as fast as an hour," chief marketing officer William White told Axios. The "Who knew?" concept will reach into the world of Reddit with "approved hacks" from Redditors and will get time on TikTok TopView, White said. Paris Hilton and Russell Westbrook teased the campaign earlier this week with posts featuring the company's yellow shopping bag imprinted with "I knew." Stunning stat: Through its brick-and-mortar stores, online shopping, and marketplace where third parties sell goods to Walmart customers, the company can sell more than half a billion items. The rollout follows news this week that the retailer will be expanding its drone delivery operations in five Southern cities.

Jessie J 'in a lot of pain' as she shares update on breast cancer during gig
Jessie J told fans she has spent much of her recent time 'in and out of tests' and plans to undergo surgery to remove a lump from her breast after her performance at this month's Summertime Ball Singer Jessie J has shared an update on her health after revealing earlier this week that she has been diagnosed with "early breast cancer" and plans to undergo surgery after her performance at this month's Summertime Ball. The Price Tag singer, 37, shared in an Instagram video that she has spent a lot of her recent time "in and out of tests". The mum-of-one told her fans: "I was diagnosed with early breast cancer," mum-of-one Jessie disclosed as she spoke directly to her fans in the video. "Cancer sucks in any form, but I'm holding on to the word 'early'. "It's a very dramatic way to get a boob job. I am going to disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball to have my surgery, and I will come back with massive t**s and more music." Jessie, whose full name is Jessica Cornish, has now shared another update with her concerned fans. The much-loved singer shared a video on Instagram from her performance at London's Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, explaining that she was in a lot of discomfort but she didn't want to cancel the show and let her fans down. In the video, Jessie admitted: "I had 5 breast biopsies the night before this show. I was in some discomfort but so hyped to do it and I didn't want to cancel. "The more I watch this show back I can see my brain working in complete overdrive trying not to blurt it all out. Laughing and making jokes in hard times [handshake emoji] me. And I am in-fact under your bed.' During her stripped-back performance, Jessie asked the audience: 'Anyone here from Joe & The Juice? On my first album, Who You Are, I know a lot of people called it Who Are You, which completely changed the meaning. Who are you? Where have you been? Pet peeve - people asking me, 'Where have you been?' Where the f**k have you been?'" "Being truthful in who you are - not your mates or your family or everyone else, but like what you love and who you are. What makes you special. That's all I wanna focus on. And my huge, perfect t**s. You know what I mean?' Nearing the end of her set, the singer said that she was in a lot of pain, but that she wasn't going to let it get in the way of doing what she loves most. She joked: "I don't know why I'm w**king off the mic. Okay, it's time for me to end this set because I'm getting too wild.' On Wednesday, Jessie said she made her diagnosis public to help her process the news, and to show solidarity with others who are going through a similar experience. "I just wanted to be open and share it, " she expressed. "One, because, selfishly, I do not talk about it enough. I'm not processing it because I'm working so hard. "I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories. I'm an open book. It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse-that's the bit that kills me." She continued: "The timing of it has been mad but also beautiful and given me this incredible perspective in this time. "But honestly I need to process it and talk about it and, I need a hug. You have loved me through all my good and hard times. And I don't want this to be any different," she concluded. Jessie captioned her moving video: "No (more) Secrets and is it too soon to do a remix called 'Living my breast life'? All jokes aside (You know it's one of the ways I get through hard times) "This last 2 months have been so amazing, and having this go on along side it on the sideline's has given me the most incredible perspective. BUT… Your girl needs a hug. Also not getting massive tits. Or am I? No no… I must stop joking." Jessie is a proud mum to her son Sky Safir Cornish Colman, who she welcomed into the world in 2023 after experiencing the heartache of a miscarriage in November 2021. Throughout her life, Jessie has faced numerous health challenges; she was diagnosed with a cardiac condition at the age of eight, endured a minor stroke at 18, and temporarily lost her hearing in 2020.

I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories. I'm an open book." Referring to her latest tracks No Secrets and Living my Best Life, she said "you can't make it up" - explaining she had no idea about her diagnosis at the time of recording. BREAST cancer is the most common type of cancer in the UK. The majority of women who get it are over 50, but younger women and, in rare cases, men can also get breast cancer. If it's treated early enough, breast cancer can be prevented from spreading to other parts of the body. Breast cancer can have a number of symptoms, but the first noticeable symptom is usually a lump or area of thickened breast tissue. Most breast lumps aren't cancerous, but it's always best to have them checked by your doctor. You should also speak to your GP if you notice any of the following: a change in the size or shape of one or both breasts discharge from either of your nipples (which may be streaked with blood) a lump or swelling in either of your armpits dimpling on the skin of your breasts a rash on or around your nipple a change in the appearance of your nipple, such as becoming sunken into your breast Source: NHS "All jokes aside (You know it's one of the ways I get through hard times) This last 2 months have been so amazing, Advertisement "And having this go on along side it on the sideline's has given me the most incredible perspective. Last year, she opened up about her ADHD and OCD diagnoses, which she said were highlighted when she became a mum to her son Sky. Advertisement She previously said online: 'Having a baby has, let's say… exposed it a lot more which was comforting in a way, as it made it feel less heavy and scary.' "But also in moments has made me feel like I can't talk about it. F*** that. Here I am talking about it." On ADHD, she wrote: 'I feel like it's a superpower as long as you look at it from the right perspective and have the right people around you that can navigate it with you.' "It's made me re think about my whole life," she said. Advertisement "The way I've been, the way I deal with things. The relationships I have had. How I work and how I love. "It's empowered me and honestly sometimes has overwhelmed me all at the same time. I have always been honest in the journey I'm going through in life. Jessie J "If there is one thing social media has given me, it's the chance to relate, connect and heal with strangers that have kind hearts and are going through a similar thing. "I have always been honest in the journey I'm going through in life. Advertisement "And I know there are so many people that are going through this same thing and I'm honestly just reaching out to hold your hand and because I need mine held too." On OCD, she reflected on cleaning her shoes with a toothbrush as a child and trying to rely on lists 'to not feel like life will crumble'. In 2021, the Grammy nominated singer also revealed she struggled with acid reflux. Taking to social media she told fans: 'I am doing a reflux acid test for 24 hours (why I have a tube up my nose). I am going to blame that as the reason why this [video] is so bad.' Advertisement This followed a string of other health complications in 2017, which she hinted at in an interview. The singer told the Daily Star Sunday: "In the two years that I did The Voice in Australia, I was diagnosed with some health issues that I'm not ready to talk about that I had to really face as a woman." Getting back into the studio Her cancer revelation comes just months after the Sun revealed the singer was preparing to make her comeback after teaming up with Adele's favourite songwriting partner Ryan Tedder. An insider said: 'Jessie has recorded a string of new songs and has her fifth album ready to go. Advertisement 'She's been through some seismic changes in her life over the past couple of years, most notably becoming a mum, and it's inspired her to get back into the studio. 'Jessie spent time writing with Ryan, who wrote her song I Want Love, and they've come up with some amazing new tunes. 'It has been a long time coming but the timing had to be right. 'She didn't want to keep churning out record after record, and wanted it to feel authentic and real. Advertisement 'Jessie couldn't be more excited to share what she has been working on with her fans and she will be announcing her first song in the spring.' Jessie's last album, R.O.S.E, was released in four parts in 2018 but failed to have the impact the ex-Voice UK coach had hoped for. In 2023, she split from Republic Records after 17 years and told fans she was looking for a fresh start. Becoming a mum to son Sky was also a driving force. Advertisement She said at the time: 'There's no negative spin, nothing's happened, it's not dramatic. 'It's just me literally saying, 'This doesn't feel right' and it hasn't for years.' 7 Jessie has previously opened up about her health struggles Credit: Corbis - Getty 7 The diagnosis comes just a month after the release of two new songs Credit: Getty
