Looking ahead to weekend storm chances

High temperatures will not be as toasty today but it will still be warm in the 80s and 70s. The temperature change will occur due to a cold front bringing a wind shift. Wind speeds will reach 20 to 25 mph but will not be as gusty as last night. Another front and wind shift moves in tonight. This will spark another chance for rain to the northwest. We will be dry Friday into Saturday but then we will begin to get into an active pattern over the weekend. Some storms over the weekend and into next week could be strong to severe. A small part of the area to the southeast will be under a Marginal Risk for severe weather Saturday. Saturday starts dry and we should stay that way into the afternoon. Late in the afternoon and by the evening storm chances will start to go back up. The chance for strong to severe storms will impact more of the area Sunday. It will be the late afternoon and evening hours again that will need to be monitored. Storms will wind down during the overnight and Monday will start quiet. However, we will need to continue practicing being weather aware with another round of potential strong to severe storms expected late in the day. Evening storms will impact much of the area, especially between Central and Eastern Kansas. Some showers and storms will linger Tuesday but so far, severe weather is not expected. The middle of the week does not look as active. KSN Storm Track 3 Forecast from Meteorologist Ronelle Williams: Wichita:Today: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy, breezy. On and off rain into the weekend

Moisture moves back into the area today. It is starting off as showers and sprinkles to the south. Rain will continue to move in through the rest of the morning and during the afternoon. If there are any rumbles of thunder they will be in Western Kansas where rainfall will be heavier at times. The cloud cover and rain will aid in making our Thursday cooler. Afternoon high temperatures will be in the 50s and 60s. Rain will lift to the north through the evening and we will briefly turn drier. However, another batch of rain will move in during the overnight. Expect a damp start to the day Friday. Even though severe weather is not expected with these waves of rain our weather will still be disruptive, putting outdoor activities on hold and slowing down travel. Showers will stick around through Friday. Temperatures will continue to come down too as we head into the weekend. High temperatures Friday will range from the upper 40s to the low 60s. Late Friday night into Saturday morning, overnight low temperatures will be colder and we will start to see a switch from wet weather to wintry in Western Kansas where a rain/snow mix will be possible. Temperatures will be coolest Saturday and with a continued chance for rain, you will want to bring your weekend activities inside. A switch from rain to rain mixed with snow will make its way into South Central Kansas late Saturday night. Once we get through early Sunday morning the rest of the weekend will be drier. Temperatures will be warmer next week. KSN Storm Track 3 Forecast from Meteorologist Ronelle Williams: Wichita:Today: Mostly cloudy, breezy. 30% chance of showers. Spring starts with average temps and fair skies

Our latest storm system has moved out and it has taken moisture, cloud cover, and high winds with it. Spring starts today and it will feel more like it compared to a cold and windy Wednesday. Before temperatures warm back up closer to average, we will have to get through a freezing start this morning. Even though winds will not be as strong today there will still be a breeze. It will be dry too so fire danger will start to go back up. Some of our counties to the west will be under a Fire Weather Warning from 1pm to 8pm. Fire concerns continue Friday. Outdoor burning is discouraged. There will be a couple of chances for rain over the next few days. Temperatures will be pleasant too. There will be another wind shift late tonight into Friday. This could be enough to spark a sprinkle or a light shower but this chance is looking unlikely. A second system will be quick on its heels Saturday night into Sunday. A thunderstorm or two will be possible to the east. This rain chance will favor areas between Central and Eastern Kansas. Western Kansas will be drier. More warmth builds in during the first full week of spring. There will be moisture nearby at times next week but we are keeping our area mainly dry at this time. KSN Storm Track 3 Forecast from Meteorologist Ronelle Williams: Wichita:Today: Partly cloudy, breezy. Hi: 58 Wind: NW/S 10-20Tonight: Partly cloudy, windy. A strong breeze and not as sunny Thursday

We are starting the day with some light moisture. Areas to the north and west will need to be mindful of a chance for light rain showers and/or a wintry mix. This chance will favor the northern half of the area through much of the day. There could still be a few raindrops farther west near the Kansas/Colorado line. High temperatures will be pleasant in the 50s and 60s, a couple of 70s will be possible to the southwest. However, this will come at the price of strong winds. Winds were light last night but a breeze has already started to pick back up to the southwest. Winds up to 15 to 30 mph will gradually spread through the rest of the area. As of 5am, High Wind Alerts are confined to Oklahoma. Southwest Kansas will see the warmest temperatures today and with gusty winds and mainly dry conditions, the threat of grassfires will be high. The rest of the area will want to avoid outdoor burning too as it will not be the best day to do so. After Fire Weather Warnings are allowed to expire this evening, winds will remain gusty through the night. Late in the overnight and into Friday another wind shift will begin to take place to the north as a cold front moves in. The northern half of the area will have a slightly better chance for rain/snow showers Friday. Even though a few could dip south of I-70 this does not look likely. Areas south will still be able to make it into the 50s before the front arrives. The northern half of the area will be cooler. By Friday evening we switch our attention to the Kansas/Oklahoma line where rain/snow showers will be possible into Saturday but most of this moisture will stay to our south. Temperatures turn much warmer next week. KSN Storm Track 3 Forecast from Meteorologist Ronelle Williams: Wichita:Today: Partly to mostly cloudy, windy. Hi: 59 Wind: S/SE 15-30Tonight: Mostly to partly cloudy, windy. Lo: 42 Wind: SE/SW 15-25Tomorrow: Partly cloudy, windy. Foggy morning, sunny afternoon Thursday

It will not be as slick this morning but dense fog will still slow you down. A Dense Fog Advisory will be allowed to expire between 6am and 9am. There is also another cold front diving south through the area. This disturbance is switching our winds out of the north but it is also coming through dry. Despite the cold front, afternoon highs will not be too bad. We will rebound into the 40s and 50s as sunshine returns. We will be between the 40s and 50s through the first half of the weekend too. Colder air starts to move in Sunday but no active weather is expected so if you will be heading out somewhere to watch the Big Game, weather worries will be low. This will change as temperatures keep dropping early next week. A chance for snow will also begin to develop Monday. The chance for snow will gradually go up through Monday and Tuesday. Another wave of snow moves in by Wednesday. It is still too early to talk about amounts of snow but plan on experiencing slower travel next week. We are also in store for another stretch of below freezing temperatures. KSN Storm Track 3 Forecast from Meteorologist Ronelle Williams: Wichita:Today: Partly cloudy to mostly sunny, breezy.
