A strong breeze and not as sunny Thursday
We are starting the day with some light moisture. Areas to the north and west will need to be mindful of a chance for light rain showers and/or a wintry mix.
This chance will favor the northern half of the area through much of the day. There could still be a few raindrops farther west near the Kansas/Colorado line.
High temperatures will be pleasant in the 50s and 60s, a couple of 70s will be possible to the southwest. However, this will come at the price of strong winds.
Winds were light last night but a breeze has already started to pick back up to the southwest. Winds up to 15 to 30 mph will gradually spread through the rest of the area. As of 5am, High Wind Alerts are confined to Oklahoma.
Southwest Kansas will see the warmest temperatures today and with gusty winds and mainly dry conditions, the threat of grassfires will be high. The rest of the area will want to avoid outdoor burning too as it will not be the best day to do so.
After Fire Weather Warnings are allowed to expire this evening, winds will remain gusty through the night. Late in the overnight and into Friday another wind shift will begin to take place to the north as a cold front moves in.
The northern half of the area will have a slightly better chance for rain/snow showers Friday.
Even though a few could dip south of I-70 this does not look likely.
Areas south will still be able to make it into the 50s before the front arrives. The northern half of the area will be cooler.
By Friday evening we switch our attention to the Kansas/Oklahoma line where rain/snow showers will be possible into Saturday but most of this moisture will stay to our south. Temperatures turn much warmer next week.

Scattered rain making for a soggy Sunday
Today: Scattered rain, high 77 Tonight: Broken clouds, low 64 Monday: Afternoon t-storms, high 74 (58) Tuesday: Partly cloudy, high 76 (59) Wednesday: Mostly sunny, high 82 (64) Thursday: Partly cloudy, high 86 (67) Most of today's rain showers are expected to fall during the first half of Sunday. Then by the afternoon a few more isolated showers and storms will pop up across central Ohio. A few areas also continue to deal with light wild fire smoke that will impact air quality index values throughout the day. Temperatures will warm up to the upper 70s and humidity will remain elevated as well. Tonight brings mainly dry conditions. Skies at times will even begin to break up a bit. A couple of spotty sprinkles cannot be ruled out either. The area continues its stretch of above average overnight lows as temperatures only drop to the mid 60s. Ather the center of low pressure moves off towards the east, attention turns to a cold front that will impact central Ohio by Monday afternoon. Along this front, showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop and some of those may lean on the stronger side. The Storm Prediction Center has areas along the I-71 corridor in a marginal risk for severe weather. This gets bumped up to a slight risk further east. Strong wind gusts appear to be the primary threat with this storm. There is still a small possibility of both large hail and an isolated tornado or two. The storms are expected to begin bubbling up sometime between 2pm-6pm. The later they do develop the stronger they will be. High temperatures on Monday will reach the mid 70s. Clearer and drier conditions return by the middle of the week. More sunshine and lower humidity will stick around as above warmer temperatures make their return. Rain also makes a comeback by the end of the week and into the upcoming weekend. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. CWG Live updates: Scattered showers, storms today, but warm week ahead
Welcome to updated around-the-clock by Capital Weather Gang meteorologists. Happening now: Any morning showers should be fairly scattered and light. Better chance of some showers and thunderstorms, maybe a few strong ones, this afternoon with highs in the 70s. What's next? Trending dry for Monday, then shower and storm chances rise again by Tuesday. Highs could be near 90 by Thursday. Today's daily digit — 5/10: Dodging some raindrops early — and maybe some heavier showers and storms late — is the name of the game with highs in the 70s. | 🤚 Your call? The digit is a somewhat subjective rating of the day's weather, on a 0-to-10 scale. Forecast in detail Today (Sunday): Mostly cloudy with scattered light to moderate showers possible during the morning hours. More numerous showers and thunderstorms are likely in the afternoon. It's uncertain if we'll see storms with strong winds and even a tornado threat around here, or if that risk will be mainly south and west of our area. Otherwise it's pretty humid with highs in the mid-70s. Confidence: Medium Tonight: The chance of a few showers and a thunderstorm continues into the evening hours, then mostly cloudy overnight with lows in the mid-60s. Confidence: Medium Tomorrow (Monday): Mostly cloudy morning skies should turn partly sunny in the afternoon. That helps highs to the upper 70s and low 80s. Still on the humid side with light winds from the southeast. Confidence: Medium-High Tomorrow night: Plenty of clouds with an isolated shower possible in the evening, then an increasing chance of showers and possibly thunderstorms overnight. Lows in the upper 60s. Confidence: Low-Medium A look ahead Mostly cloudy for much of Tuesday as an approaching cold front keeps the chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms going during the morning into afternoon. Highs should reach the low 80s, then decreasing rain chances and clearing skies should arrive at some point during the midafternoon into early evening. Confidence: Low-Medium After the front passes, Wednesday and Thursday are looking dry and partly to mostly sunny, with highs warming from the 80s on Wednesday to perhaps near 90 on Thursday.
