Family of late Wicklow man to thank local charities who helped him with golf event

Wicklow People Following the success of last year's inaugural Colin O'Mahony Golf Classic, which raised more than €12,000 for local charities, golfers are preparing once again to tee off at Delgany Golf Club later this month. Colin, who grew up in Bray before moving to Delgany, is remembered by family, friends and colleagues for his warm heart, quick wit, and deep care for his community. He worked with care and excellence in the property and creative industries, always ready to lend a hand or offer expert advice. His generosity of spirit was felt by all those who knew him. Now loved ones of the late Mr O'Mahony have established this golf classic, to recognise the great care Colin received from Wicklow Hospice and Greystones Cancer Support before he passed on March 30 2024. Friends and family are travelling from as far afield as America, Cyprus and England to participate in this year's event, with Delgany Golf Club captains, former RTÉ journalist Sean O'Rourke, and president, Ailbe Brennan, also in attendance, alongside Colin's parents, wife Julie, and their four daughters. Colin's wife Julie said: 'We are thrilled with the support of this event and are so grateful to the many business and friends for their support. The beautiful trophy has room for 50 teams so we look forward to running this event for many more years and continuing to support these two amazing charities who provided so much help to our family and continue to assist many other local families.' The second Colin O'Mahony Golf Classic takes place on Thursday, June 19, and 22 teams will take part in the shotgun competition, with a further 60 guests due to join the golfers later for dinner and a prize-giving ceremony in the clubhouse. Local businesses have been coming on board to support the event by generously sponsoring each tee and hole on course. The attendees will also include Allison Ryder from Wicklow Hospice and Amanda Lawless from Greystones Cancer Support. For anyone who wishes to support the event, donation boxes can be found in Spar Bray, Centra Eden Gate and Delgany Golf Club and online donations can be made to
