Walmart Is Opening a Fan-Favorite Hot Dog Chain in Several of Its Stores
Founded in 1961 by John Galardi, Wienerschnitzel began as a single-family-owned hot dog stand in Southern California and has since grown to become the 'world's largest hot dog franchise.' In addition to the 358 locations of the fast-food restaurant today, Wienerschnitzel is now expanding even further with the help of the largest grocery store in the United States. On May 28, Wienerschnitzel announced plans to open six restaurant locations inside Walmart stores by fall 2025. These new openings will be situated in six cities across various states: Alamogordo, New Mexico; Bakersfield, California; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Reno, Nevada; Tempe, Arizona; and Puyallup, Washington. This is far from the first time Walmart has partnered with prominent American fast food chains. The retailer has previously housed fan-favorite restaurants like Burger King, McDonald's, Taco Bell, and Subway in its stores. The new Wienerschnitzels in all six states will offer the chain's full menu for Walmart shoppers. As a restaurant renowned for its hot dogs, some menu highlights feature offerings like the classic Chili Cheese Dog, Junkyard Dog (topped with french fries, chili sauce, grilled onions, American cheese, and French's mustard), and Texas BBQ Dog (topped with bacon, barbecue sauce, grilled onions, and shredded cheddar), along with burgers, chili cheese fries, jalapeño poppers, and Tastee Freez soft serve desserts, including shakes that are beloved for their thick texture. Additionally, the menu features three vegetarian hot dog options — including Field Roast's plant-based Signature Stadium Dog — such as the Barbeque Veggie Dog (topped with barbecue sauce, a pickle spear, and chopped onions) and the Chicago Veggie Dog (topped with tomato, chopped onions, a pickle spear, relish, sport peppers, yellow mustard, and celery salt). Wienerschnitzel locations currently span 13 states. Ted Milburn, the brand's director of franchise development, explains in the press release that 'Growing inside these Walmart locations significantly expands our reach and opens the door for franchisees to tap into high-traffic locations with built-in demand." The world's largest hot dog chain announces partnership with Walmart
Walmart shoppers will soon find Wienerschnitzel locations inside select stores. The hot dog chain announced its plans to open six restaurants inside Walmart locations this fall. The restaurants will be located at stores in Washington, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, and California. The partnership will help the world's largest hot dog chain branch out and bring more stores to the Eastern US. 'Wienerschnitzel has spent decades building a strong reputation, especially on the West Coast, and this expansion into Walmart stores signifies a new era of growth for the brand,' said Wienerschnitzel's director of franchise expansion Shak Turner. Wienerschnitzel's Walmart menus will feature fan-favorite items like its Chili Cheese Dogs, Junkyard Dogs, chili cheese fries, jalapeño poppers, and Tastee Freez deserts. The restaurant chain has approximately 340 locations throughout 13 states and more than 50 US units in development. Walmart and Wienerschnitzel have not revealed if they plan to open more restaurants together in the future. The hot dog chain's partnership with Walmart will help it branch out and bring more stores to the Eastern US Walmart frequently looks for prospective tenants to enter its stores and is excited for Wienerschnitzel to be part of it. Before Wienerschnitzel, Walmart entered partnerships with brands like Burger King McDonald's, Taco Bell, and Subway. The partnership is one of many changes the retailer will be undergoing this year. All of what's to come began in 2023 after Walmart unveiled a $9 billion makeover for 1,400 stores. The newest design began a small rollout in Arkansas in 2024, and is in the process of expanding to 650 stores this year. Walmart also debuted a new logo in January, which unimpressed shoppers believed looked similar to the old one. Other 'exciting' Walmart changes include an expansion of fuel station convenience stores and a revamped delivery system to compete with Amazon. Besides revamps, Walmart has been forced to make some unpopular changes due to tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump. Walmart said it is excited for its partnership with Wienerschnitzel The retail empire announced it would hike its prices after warning customers this was a possible result of tariffs. Walmart employees leaked photos of price increases showing that some products have seen an 80 percent cost hike. Wienerschnitzel has also made changes recently, including a partnership with Presto Phoenix for AI-driven voice ordering technology and new franchise agreements. Like fast food chain hamburgers, the price of hot dogs could potentially be altered if they are imported from other countries. As of now, it is unclear if Wienerschnitzel plans to raise its menu prices as a result of the tariffs.

In ‘great news' for Californians, chain plans two restaurants in Boise area
Boise's transformation into California restaurant-chain paradise shows no sign of slowing. With In-N-Out Burger fully entrenched in the area, and Wienerschnitzel having arrived, another Golden State brand is on the way. El Pollo Loco, which recently submitted a pre-application request with the city of Meridian to open a 2,000-square-foot restaurant at 3471 W. Chinden Blvd. (near the intersection with Ten Mile Road), now has plans for Nampa, too. The Mexican-style brand has leased 'over half an acre of land at Northside Boulevard and Nampa-Caldwell Boulevard,' according to a press release from Summit Commercial Real Estate Group. The address is 95 2nd St. South. Known for its 'famous citrus-marinated, fire-grilled chicken,' El Pollo Loco's Idaho moves are exciting transplants from California. When a Boise radio station posted about the Nampa lease on Facebook, enthusiastic online responses followed. In a comment that received 27 reactions, one person declared, 'I'm from California and this is great news!' 'Don't toy with me!!!' another commenter wrote. 'Their avocado salsa is insane!!! So good!!!' A 'SoCal staple,' as the chain refers to itself, El Pollo Loco was founded in 1974 — in Mexico. It now has more than 495 locations in seven states: California, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Texas, Utah and Louisiana, according to a press release. If you've eaten at Fiesta Chicken — a similar local concept in Boise — you already have a grasp of El Pollo Loco's bird-focused menu. The chain serves delicious, if not addictive, chicken — in tacos, burritos, tostadas, salads, bowls and meals. A real-estate listing indicates the Nampa restaurant is 'opening soon,' but a publicist for El Pollo Loco did not immediately respond with information about a target date. In April, Tim Welsh, El Pollo Loco's chief development officer, provided a prepared statement about the Meridian store. 'We've been working with a franchise partner to bring El Pollo Loco's signature, fire-grilled chicken to the Boise area,' he said. 'We're excited to have identified a location and are optimistic we will have our entitlements approved in the coming months. While we don't yet have an opening date for this restaurant, we look forward to being part of the Meridian community in the near future.'

Wienerschnitzel Is Coming to Walmart—Here's What to Expect
Walmart is shaking up its in-store dining game by partnering with Wienerschnitzel, the world's largest hot dog chain, to bring iconic chili cheese dogs, fries, and frozen treats to select stores, according to The Street. This move is part of Walmart's broader push to modernize its shopping experience, integrating fresh dining options that could change the way customers shop and eat. 'Wienerschnitzel has spent decades building a strong reputation, especially on the West Coast, and this expansion into Walmart stores signifies a new era of growth for the brand,' said Shak Turner, Wienerschnitzel's Director of Franchise Expansion. The initial rollout includes six new franchise-operated restaurants opening by fall 2025 in Alamogordo, NM; Bakersfield, CA; Colorado Springs, CO; Puyallup, WA; Reno, NV; and Tempe, AZ. 'We're always looking for ways to create a better shopping experience,' a Soy Carmin reported a Walmart spokesperson said. 'By partnering with a brand our customers already love, we're making it easier for them to enjoy a great meal without an extra stop.' The partnership is part of a broader shift for Walmart. While it has long housed fast-food brands like McDonald's and Subway, the move toward Wienerschnitzel reflects a desire to offer more curated, consumer-preferred dining insiders suggest Walmart's partnership with Wienerschnitzel could signal the start of a larger strategy to boost in-store traffic and offer customers a more seamless experience. The new in-store restaurants will feature Wienerschnitzel's full menu and Tastee Freez desserts, along with modern ordering options like mobile ordering through Walmart's app and takeout. As inflation continues to pressure consumers, combining affordable shopping with quick, satisfying dining could give Walmart a competitive edge. If the pilot proves successful, more stores nationwide could see similar upgrades, blending retail and dining in a way that keeps shoppers coming back.
