Isle of Wight tricking event sees young talent shine on global stage
The Isle of Wight is becoming a hotspot for tricking.
WightTricks hosted the second Flip The Island Gathering (FTIG) this July, with the 2025 edition titled Zero Limits.
The event, which took place on July 5 and 6, attracted more attendees, international recognition, and talent than the previous year.
Tricking combines martial arts, gymnastics, breakdancing, and freestyle movements.
Team Japan showcases world-class tricking talent (Image: WightTricks) The 2025 FTIG had an international flavour, with top athletes and guest judges from Japan, America, Austria, Finland, Sweden, Scotland, and the UK.
Robbie Bates, founder of WightTricks, said: "This wasn't just a competition. It was a rite of passage.
"Every athlete who stepped onto that floor made their mark. What we saw was courage in motion."
The competition winners were Zion Bailey in the beginner division, Lyla-Rose Petworth in the intermediate division, Bella Roe in the returners division, and Milan Kokavecz in the advanced division.

11-year-old Rea Seino won the Battle of Prodigies, while Ryuta Suzuki claimed victory in the pro open.
Robbie said: "To every athlete who stepped up, you etched your name into FTIG history.
"This was born from a dream, but you gave it life."
Guest judges and mentors this year included Will Coneys (USA), Rees Beardshaw (UK), and Noah Petek (Austria), who also led seminars to share their expertise.
The gathering has its roots as a local club but is now an internationally recognised event.
Despite the presence of global guests and professional athletes, FTIG maintains its community focus.
WightTricks provides tricking lessons for all age groups, from toddlers to adults.
