Games Inbox: Will Wii games come to Nintendo Switch 2?

The Wednesday letters page wants new Fallout games set in different countries, as one reader hopes for the return of Watch Dogs. To join in with the discussions yourself email gamecentral@ Wii emulate With the talk of N64 and GameCube on Nintendo Switch Online I wonder what people think the chances are of the Wii, and maybe even Wii U, being added to the service? Game Pass and PS Plus get all the attention, but I think Nintendo's subscription service is much better value, at least for me. As far as I know it's successful and I'm not surprised, because who wouldn't want access to all of Nintendo's hits at the press of the button? Except it's Nintendo and it's never that simple, since many games and console aren't on there. I hope we don't have to wait for the Switch 3 to get Wii games though. It might not be many people's favourite console, but it's got games like Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Mario Kart Wii, the best version of Resident Evil 4, Super Paper Mario, Sin & Punishment: Star Successor, and a bunch of other stuff that isn't on any format. I don't see it happening for a few years, not until they've filled out the GameCube selection a bit more, but I do think it's inevitable. Onibee Reduced Fallout It is kind of crazy how few Fallout games there've been in the modern age. It's enough to make you think the series isn't that popular but then how do you explain the TV show? I would like to see a new one, and be perfectly happy if it wasn't by Bethesda, but then on the other hand it is kind of good that at least one franchise hasn't been hammered into the ground. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. I'd love a Fallout: New Vegas 2 but I'd also like to see one that wasn't set in the US. I know Todd Howard said that would never happen but the reason for doing it make much less sense than GTA. The London mod proves how good it could be, although you probably need people from the place it's set to make it. Olliephant Heavenly fun Sony get a lot of stick for their live service disasters, and not without reason, but I would just like to say that Helldivers 2 is really good. I don't know if it's worth putting up with all the failures for, but that's kind of Sony's fault if they're okay with pouring all that money down the drain. I would absolutely recommend it to Xbox owners, since it's coming to their consoles next month. It's not the most original game but it's changed a whole lot over the months and unlike a lot of these sort of games there's not been many big controversies and other players are mostly pretty chill in my experience. Some of the recent additions have bene the best and I can't imagine stop playing it anytime soon. Mookster Email your comments to: gamecentral@ Reputational damage I don't know if Microsoft cares or not, but I have never seen such negativity aimed at Xbox than in the last week or so. I don't mean in the console wars sense but just with people furious with Microsoft for laying off so many people and cancelling all their games. A lot of the anger seems to be aimed at the obsession with AI and also the complete unreliability of execs like Phil Spencer. I'm sure he's not going to give up on the gravy train he's sorted out for himself at Xbox but how he will ever have the nerve to front another video or livestream I do not know. Microsoft is just a corporation and there's only one thing they're interested in. That should be obvious, but I think over the years some people have tried to pretend to themselves it's not. Wotan Better with friends I agree that my big hope for Resident Evil Requiem is that it has co-op or that there's some kind of other spin-off game that does. I'd really love for co-op to become big again and I don't really understand why it ever went away. Games like It Takes Two and Split Fiction are really good and super popular and with something like Resident Evil you don't even need to design the whole game around it, it's just an option. So many other games could benefit from this. How does Assassin's Creed Shadows have two completely different characters but no co-op. It seems such a missed opportunity. Grant GC: To be fair, Resident Evil 5 and 6 were very much designed around co-op. It's just if you're playing on your own the other character is AI controlled. The good news is that Shadows is supposed to be getting a co-op mode next year. Superhero fantasy I really hope the new Superman movie is good because I feel the whole concept of the character has not been done right for what seems like forever, at least in TV, movies, and games. The sad reality is that people don't want a hero that is good anymore. Or at least they've been made to think they don't. They want them to be grim and gritty and as we saw with the Snyderverse that just doesn't work with Superman. I think it's very depressing though that while we take laser beam eyes and freeze breath for granted the idea of a powerful person doing good is somehow the thing we can't believe and seems unrealistic. That's understandable when you look at the news but that's why Superman is a fantasy: absolute power being used only for good. As your article pointed out there's absolutely no reason Superman couldn't work as a video game. He's got plenty of bad guys on his power level (more than probably Batman has) and most of them are never seen outside of comic books and cartoons. Also, games, for some reason, are better at portraying heroic superheroes than movies. Peter Parker and Miles Morales in the Spider-Man games are, as I think GC said, 'morally perfect' and that doesn't even really fit the characters. That's meant to be Superman's trademark, and maybe Captain America, so there's absolutely no reason not to give it a proper try. If this new movie is a hit, then hopefully that's exactly what they'll do. Xero No one's watching Does anyone remember the Watch Dogs series? The second one is one of my all-time favourites, but the third one was so bad I don't think there's ever going to be another one. I know encouraging Ubisoft to make more sequels is not exactly the done thing, but I'd much rather have another game, that got back to complexity of the second one, than more Assassin's Creed or Far Cry. I get they're not exactly in the mood for taking risks at the moment but between that and Splinter Cell it seems that all their best games are being left on the shelf. Homer Lara laughs You know when it's the beginning of a journey you feel a sense of excitement and wonder of discovery. You're unsure of what lies ahead but it remains a journey to undertake; a wondrous road lies in wait. The journey is with fraught challenge, prevalent dangers lurking within, and a memory to cherish, for years to come. I've myself had the pleasurable journey of undertaking a playthrough of the rebooted Tomb Raider trilogy and just tonight I've completed Shadow Of The Tomb Raider. The trilogy is complete and I'll say this, I've always said Lara Croft is my favourite female video game character. I grew up playing the original titles, on PC actually. My older sister's computer was home to my memories of playing Lara Croft, when she wielded the dual pistols and donned her iconic brown and green outfit. It was childhood memories without equal. Today I'm 27 years old and I've completed Tomb Raider as a grown adult. To say this franchise means so much to me is an understatement. It's my childhood and it really is a testament to Square Enix that they have provided me with new memories. That will last a lifetime. Spoken as a long life fan, I'm eagerly awaiting news regarding a new instalment. There're many more tombs to be explored and raids to be carried out. On a final note. I'd like to ask GC if they can help me decide between two PC releases. Assassin's Creed Shadows or Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. I know they both scored 7/10. Which is a superior experience though? Here's to a wonderful trilogy and Lara Croft. Shahzaib Sadiq GC: They're very different games, so it depends what you're interested in, but we'd say Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 was overall more impressive. Inbox also-ransJust heard that Soma is coming to Nintendo Switch (so should work on Switch 2) this month. One of my favourite games ever and would totally recommend it to someone that wants a really clever sci-fi horror game with no combat. Lentz You know what I'd like? A new X-Files games. Now the two leads are too old for it I'd love to see them voice their characters while they were in their prime. There were two games when it was out and the Resident Evil style one was actually pretty good. The 10 best tennis video games ever to play during Wimbledon

8) Mario Tennis: Power Tour (2005, Game Boy Advance) Play Presumably concerned Game Boy Color owners would throw their consoles out of the window if the company had the audacity to release a normal tennis game on the system, Nintendo crafted Mario Tennis to be closer to a quirky RPG that just happened to have tennis mechanics in place of a battle system. For this Game Boy Advance sequel, the mash-up was particularly glorious, twinning amusing Zelda-like chats and exploration with high-octane ball-thwacking that was the best on the system. Add in furiously addictive madcap mini-games and you've a title that might not be tennis as you know it, but it does make everything else on this list seem a little dull by comparison. 9) Wii Sports (2006, Nintendo Wii) Play As the Wii arrived, the games industry was roused by a million voices crying out in pain that Nintendo had – shock! – dumbed-down console gaming. Take the tennis bit of Wii Sports: players moved automatically, and you merely swung your controller a bit like a racket, only occasionally accidentally letting go and smashing your TV screen. The thing is, it was fantastic (apart from the TV-smashing bit). Everyone could get in on the action, rather than having to first master the 'gamepad claw'; yet there was enough nuance for dedicated players to pull off some fantastic moves – even if the little Mii characters looked ridiculous while doing so. 10) Top Spin 4 (2011, PS3/Wii/Xbox 360) Play It's probably sacrilege to say it, but some time in the 2000s, Sega lost its tennis-game crown; Virtua Tennis 3 was an impressive if predictable update, but its sequel was finally eclipsed by the lurking Top Spin series. In Top Spin 4, the deep coaching system hugely added to the extensive career mode, and the character customisation went so far as to enable you to select different types of grunts and victory celebrations. It was perhaps all a little clinical (besides the bizarre uncanny valley player faces), but fluid player movement, balanced gameplay and detailed, responsive controls combined to make for a rewarding experience for those who persevered. New balls, please Play If you're thinking, 'Hang on. You've just recommended the game equivalents of Martina Navratilova, Andre Agassi and Roger Federer', that's because there are few newer titles capable of walloping an ace towards your console. Still, if you need something contemporary, there are two solid options. Top Spin 2K25 (PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Windows) follows up on the last entry in the above list with an iterative effort that nets you a slew of licensed venues and players that look at least 34% less like zombies than they did in the Virtua Tennis days. Tweaked mechanics make for exciting risk vs reward moments during rallies. But you'll grumble at the grind progression system and absurdist virtual currency, which leaves Wimbledon winners with barely enough extra virtual cash for a pair of virtual socks. Tsk. Unsurprisingly, Nintendo Switch owners get something a mite more bonkers and colourful in the shape of Mario Tennis Aces. This builds on previous Nintendo efforts by fusing arcade gameplay and adventuring, while occasionally acknowledging that, yes, there's a tennis game in there somewhere. Boss battles with tennis rackets can be entertainingly daft, although the single-player mode runs out of steam faster than the average Brit at Wimbledon. The game's chaotic nature is fun while it lasts though.

Konami and Bloober Team Officially Announced Remake of the Original Silent Hill

Image via: Konami In a long-awaited move, Konami has officially announced a full remake of the original Silent Hill (1999), entrusting the project to Bloober Team. The surprise announcement, which took place as part of Konami's 'Press Start' digital showcase, saw a fog-drenched teaser accompanied by the iconic score of Akira Yamaoka welcoming gamers back to the origin point of psychological survival horror. Though the announcement lacked a potential release window, or which platforms it will support, it's an exciting new chapter for the franchise. Fresh off reimagining Silent Hill 2 to critical acclaim for its visual score and emotional depth, Bloober Team is now set to reimagine the game that first established the town's terrifying mood. Bloober Team and Konami: A Growing Partnership The partnership between Bloober Team and Konami seems to be developing into a permanent bond. Earlier this year, Bloober CEO Piotr Babieno highlighted the strength of this partnership, mentioning it 'incredibly fruitful.' He hinted that the studios are collaborating on 'something really amazing,' but kept his cards close about the details. For starters, the game is nearly 30 years old, quite an achievement considering the state of horror games that spend a couple of dedicated months between development and release. Returning to the first entry is the most logical move narratively. It is a true sequel to the first game, so trailing back and remaking the original lays a much stronger foundation for any potential future remake. Curiously, Silent Hill has been through this cycle once before. 2009's Silent Hill: Shattered Memories reinterpreted the original for the Wii with psychological profiling and an adapted narrative. Whether Bloober's upcoming remake will draw from that reimagining or stick more closely to the 1999 PlayStation classic is still to be seen. BREAKING!! Silent Hill 1 Remake CONFIRMED by Konami!! What's Next for the Franchise? With Silent Hill due to release this September and Bloober Team's very own sci-fi horror adventure Cronos: The New Dawn coming out this Autumn too, all may be waiting a while for the new Silent Hill remake to reappear with major news. Yet, one thing is certain, Silent Hill is anything but silent.

The 8 worst Nintendo games ever - from Welcome Tour to Donkey Kong Jet Race

Following the launch of Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, GameCentral looks back on the worst Nintendo games ever made. Whereas Mario Kart World is a joyous experience worth getting a Nintendo Switch 2 for, the only other first party title available for the system is Nintendo Switch 2 World Tour: a shockingly banal experience unbecoming of a company like Nintendo. Reviews were late in arriving, because consoles weren't sent out more than a day before launch, so it's taken a while for the game to get a consensus of review on Metacritic. But now that it has, it's sitting at just 52. That makes it one of the worst reviewed games that Nintendo itself has ever made – but not the very worst. Badly reviewed games are impressively rare in Nintendo's discography, with most never getting any worse than average. But if you've ever wanted to see what a genuinely bad game from Nintendo looks like, here is their hall of shame… Metacritic score: 52 Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. Just to get the ball rolling, let's start with the impetus for this list. While there's far worse yet to come, Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour is baffling in how sterile and un-Nintendo-like it is in its presentation. Be sure to read our full review for a proper breakdown, but per Metacritic, it's only scored higher than two games this year: hack and slash action game Captain Blood and Ambulance Life: A Paramedic Simulator. Metacritic score: 54 Not only one of the worst games Nintendo has ever made but almost certainly their least asked for sequel as well. Arriving six years after the already unpopular launch game 1-2-Switch (Metacritic score: 58) it's baffling as to who thought this would be a good idea. If a 2022 report is to be believed, it bombed so hard with playtesters that some Nintendo execs were hesitant about releasing Everybody 1-2-Switch out of fear it would damage the company's reputation. It didn't, but you can't help but wonder why Nintendo bothered. Metacritic score: 46 Titled Donkey Kong Barrel Blast elsewhere in the world, this racing spin-off was originally designed as a GameCube game you controlled with the DK Bongos accessory. However, it was delayed and retrofitted for the Wii to make use of the Wii remote and nunchuk. The end result was a physically and mentally tiring experience, given how much motion-controlled shaking was required, although we don't think it would've been much better on GameCube thanks to how shallow and dull the actual racing is. Metacritic score: 49 The original Chibi-Robo! on GameCube was a flawed but mildly interesting distraction, with some neat ideas, but every subsequent sequel seemed to strip away its best qualities and make things worse with every new entry. Chibi-Robo! Let's Go, Photo! (aka Chibi-Robo! Photo Finder) was designed to show off the 3DS's camera and AR features, but it didn't use them very well. The end result is a simply awful collection of minigames and while normally people would be upset that the game was lost to the ether, when the 3DS eShop shut down, it's hard to care in this instance. Although these games weren't developed by Nintendo itself, they were published by them, as format exclusives, and in many cases they're even worse than the in-house failures. Devil's Third – A Wii U exclusive from the creator of Ninja Gaiden and Dead Or Alive, Devil's Third is a laughably awful action game that is almost so bad it's good. Gardening Mama 2: Forest Friends – This was only published by Nintendo in Europe – for some reason – with its drab collection of minigames unlikely to please even the most undemanding child. My Pokémon Ranch – This barely counts as a game, since it serves mostly as a place to store pokémon from other games, but it did include a number of vapid minigames and some extremely ugly 3D models. Metacritic score: 53 We were stuck on whether this or the Wii U's Game & Wario is the worst WarioWare game, but at least Game & Wario has a couple of fun minigames. We're not sure the same can be said for WarioWare: Snapped. A digital download made exclusively for the Nintendo DSi and its digital cameras, it had a criminally small pool of microgames that often didn't work and weren't even that micro – thus eliminating the manic, fast-paced excitement of the rest of the WarioWare series. Metacritic score: 46 Although the Pokémon games aren't made in-house at Nintendo, we still think they should count, since Pokémon is one of the company's premiere franchises and, as evidenced by Pokémon Dash, something they consider useful to push a new console launch. This racing spin-off was one of the very first DS games and it forced you to use the stylus for making Pikachu (who was the only playable character for some reason) race through painfully uninteresting courses. Metacritic score: 53 Pokémon Battle Revolution felt very much like the Wii successor to the Pokémon Stadium games, letting you bring your party of pokémon from the 2D games into 3D. While it did boast online play, it lacked the meaty single-player content seen in the Stadium games, making it nothing more than a battle simulator. Considering the same developer, Genius Sonority, had previously made the fan favourite Pokémon Colosseum spin-offs, this was quite the downgrade. Metacritic score: 46 It's still so strange that after Animal Crossing: New Leaf for the 3DS, the next traditional Animal Crossing game wouldn't be until Animal Crossing: New Horizons roughly eight years later. The only entry the Wii U ever saw was Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival, an atrocious board game spin-off that demands you have the appropriate amiibo figures to play and yet has no real gameplay to speak of. You just watch things happen. How the same studio went on to make Super Mario Party Jamboree beggars' belief. More Trending For as bad as these games are, it speaks volumes to Nintendo's quality control that this is the worst that we could find. In fact, if you look at Nintendo's output on Metacritic, very few games it's published have scored lower than an average score of 50. Past that, you start getting to games that may be considered bad by Nintendo's standards but are otherwise inoffensive, such as Wario: Master Of Disguise (Metacritic score: 60) and Kirby Air Ride (Metacritic score: 61). And yet clearly Nintendo isn't bothered by these atypical duds. They didn't take the hint with 1-2-Switch, they kept making Chibi-Robo! games for years, and, bizarrely, Kirby Air Ride is getting a sequel later this year – despite being one of their lowest rated games ever and the Switch 2 already having a Nintendo racing game, in Mario Kart World. It just goes to show how unpredictable Nintendo can be, not just in the sort of games it releases and their quality, but also which ones it thinks are worth revisiting.
