Longhorns ride big 5th inning to opening NCAA regional win over Houston Christian

Longhorns ride big 5th inning to opening NCAA regional win over Houston Christian The Texas Longhorns bats have been quiet for the past month. And things started slow in the first game of the NCAA regional in Austin at UFCU Disch-Falk Field against Houston Christian. But an error and six hits blew the game open in the fifth inning, as Texas scored five runs and cruised the rest of the way to a 7-1 win to open the postseason. The Horns opened the scoring in the third inning on an Ethan Mendoza ground out that scored center fielder Will Gasparino. An error on a Max Belyeu grounder to second scored scored two-sports star Jonah Williams. Houston Christian scratched out a run in the top of the fourth on Jeremy Rader's double to score Matthew Leiterman. But Texas blew the game open in the bottom of the fifth. Kimble Schuesslerr singled to left to score Williams and Mendoza scored. Second baseman Adrian Rodriguez singled to center to score Schuesslerr. Casey Borba singled to center to plate Rodriguez. Gasparino then doubled to drive in Jalin Flores, who had reached on an infield single. Texas will face the winner of tonight's matchup between UTSA and Kansas State on Saturday at 8 p.m. CT.
