Nolan Schanuel's first career walk-off hit gives Angels 2-1 10-inning win over Athletics
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Nolan Schanuel hit a single into shallow center field in the 10th inning for the first walk-off hit of his career to drive in Jo Adell and give the Los Angeles Angels a 2-1 win over the Athletics on Tuesday night. Reid Detmers (2-2) struck out two of three batters to strand the automatic runner in the top of the 10th. Hogan Harris (1-1) took the loss for the A's, who have lost 22 of 26 games. The Angels trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the eighth when Travis d'Arnaud hit A's left-hander T.J. McFarland's first pitch for a pinch-hit homer and a 1-1 tie. Angels starter José Soriano allowed one run and two hits and struck out a career-best 12 in seven innings. He walked two. The A's Mitch Spence, making his second start since being moved from the bullpen, gave up three hits, struck out four and walked none in five scoreless innings. He lost his no-hit bid in the sixth when Brent Rooker drove an RBI double to left-center field just beyond the reach of a diving Adell for a 1-0 A's lead. Veteran right-hander Hunter Strickland, who signed a minor league deal on May 6, escaped a runner-on-second, no-out jam in the eighth and has not allowed a run in 11 innings over nine appearances with the Angels. Key Stat D'Arnaud's eighth-inning shot was the second pinch-hit homer of his career. His first came for the Atlanta Braves against the Colorado Rockies on Sept. 4, 2021. Kodai Senga leaves with hamstring strain as Mets hang on for 4-3 win to sweep Nats
NEW YORK (AP) — Kodai Senga threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings Thursday before leaving with a hamstring strain in the New York Mets' 4-3 win over the Washington Nationals that completed a three-game sweep. Senga (7-3) allowed one hit and one walk before getting hurt while making a leaping grab of Pete Alonso's high throw on CJ Abrams' grounder between first and second. Senga touched the bag with his right foot on the way down but stumbled upon landing and reached for the back of his right leg. He hopped a couple of steps before tumbling to the ground. He lowered his major league-leading ERA to 1.47, but will be placed on the injured list. Jeff McNeil stayed hot with a three-run homer in the first for the Mets, who have won six straight to improve to an MLB-best 45-24. Brandon Nimmo homered off the right field foul pole in the fifth. The Nationals snapped a 22-inning scoreless streak by rallying for three runs in the ninth, when Luis García Jr. and Josh Bell hit RBI singles and García scored on a wild pitch before Edwin Díaz got José Tena and Keibert Ruiz to ground out to earn his 15th save.
