The New York Knicks are "that rarest of American sports birds, a team with a massive global fan base that also has a history of failure." This "combination — huge reach and underdog status — is nearly unprecedented. And it would make a theoretical title feel like a seismic event." The "Knicks should be America's team." Gostin at The Hill Trump supporters have "doubled down on the idea that we can find an alternative to the WHO," say Sam Halabi and Lawrence O. Gostin. But "we can't and we won't." The "only thing that will happen as the U.S. pulls out of the WHO" is that "we will become weaker and more isolated." No "alternative organization, public or private," has the "legitimacy, infrastructure and trust of governments worldwide to share information, collaborate with partners to save vulnerable populations, and pool resources." Her "government is rolling out an industrial policy that shares many of the same goals as those championed by the Biden administration." Amid "endless postmortems about where Democrats went wrong, it might be worth looking beyond our borders for inspiration." What "can we learn from Sheinbaum's approach?" Ashley McGuire at USA Today The Catholic Church's "teachings on women remain radically countercultural," says Ashley McGuire. Catholic women "love our priests. We do not want to be them." Understanding "those differences rather than trying to stamp them out is essential to authentically elevating the role" of women. Read more

Home Struggles Send Tampa Bay Rays Tumbling in Power Rankings
The Tampa Bay Rays have not fared the best in their temporary home at George M. Steinbrenner Field this year. Their record for 2025 as a whole sits at 18-22 entering Monday, good enough for fourth in the American League East. A massive 17 of those losses have come at "home." Their 11-17 record in Tampa is a stark contrast to the 7-5 record on the road thus far. The lack of success in their (current) home stadium has seen the team's stock plummet in the eyes of those who control the weekly power rankings. In the latest iteration from Will Leitch of the writer dropped the team from 21st last week to 23rd this week. Advertisement "Now that the repairs for the roof of Tropicana Field have been approved," writes Leitch, "the Rays get to return home for the 2026 season. They are surely most relieved by that: Their new home has not been treating them well. They had endured a seven-game home losing streak before winning back-to-back games against the Brewers on Friday and Saturday, and they are now [11-17] at George M. Steinbrenner Field. (It's still a very lovely field.)" Home may be where the heart is, but it is not where you go to get wins in 2025 if you are the Rays. The Rays' 17 home losses this year are the most in MLB. The next closest team has 16, and that total belongs to the Colorado Rockies, who are on pace to shatter the single-season loss record (set by the Chicago White Sox last year), and just fired their manager on Sunday. Home is normally where you go to get away from the stress and troubles in your life. For the Rays this year, it's just the opposite.

Cardinals Surge Up Latest MLB Power Rankings
After winning their last eight games, the St. Louis Cardinals moved up six spots in this week's Power Rankings. The team took two of three games against the New York Mets before completing back-to-back sweeps of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Nationals from Sunday, May 4 through Sunday, May 11. Advertisement The victorious week pushed the Cardinals from No. 23 to No. 17 on list - the team's highest ranking of the season, so far. Will Leitch of attributed stand-out center fielder Victor Scott II's 11-game hitting streak as a "primary reason" for St. Louis' eight-game win streak. The 24-year-old went 5-for-15 (.333) in five games last week while scoring four times, currently carrying a .357 on base percentage on the year. Advertisement Arenado - who missed Wednesday's game with a back issue - slashed .375/.412/.625 in four games during the week, collecting six hits - including a double and home run - scoring four times and driving in two runs. Contreras also picked up a double and a home run, finishing the week with four RBI and slashing .286/.500/.571 with five walks and four runs. Nootbaar carried a .524 slugging percentage through 21 at-bats, picking up two doubles and a home run to drive in four and score three times. Three walks pushed his on base percentage up to .375 in that five-game span. With the return of Ivan Herrera, who had two hits - including a double - and two RBI in seven at-bats last week, the Cardinals are looking to keep rolling through the East in Philadelphia during a three-game set this week.

Orioles Continue Free Fall Despite Emergence of Young Star
It is hard to be happy about much surrounding the Baltimore Orioles right now. They entered the year as a team expected to make the playoffs easily, and have been the exact opposite of that to this point, struggling in nearly every facet of the game. They enter the week with a 15-24 record, virtually at the end of the first quarter of the season. The Orioles' record has them in last place in the American League East, and only three teams have started worse this year. The rough start to the year has seen the Orioles continue to free fall in the weekly power rankings. In the latest iteration, Will Leitch of drops the club from 22nd to 24th, though he does list one bright side. Advertisement "It has been extremely dark in Baltimore of late," writes Leitch, "so let's try to focus on something positive, if possible: Jackson Holliday is starting to slowly come along. Over his past 15 games coming into Sunday, when he took an 0-fer, he slashed .356/.442/.511 with two homers. The Orioles will take all the positives they can get right now." The emergence of Holliday may be too little, too late, but it is a good sign for the future. He has raised his batting line on the year to .264/.336/.409 with four home runs, 12 RBI and a 117 OPS+ across 122 plate appearances in 34 games. It has led many to begin calling for the second baseman to be in the lineup every day. While it may appear to be a lost season for the Orioles, Holliday finding his groove at the plate is a major boon for the future. If only the rest of the team could follow suit.
