Will Levis says losing Titans' starting job to Cam Ward 'sucks,' but he's staying positive
Two years ago, Will Levis found himself falling in the NFL Draft after once being rumored to be a possible No. 2 overall pick. Instead, he was selected in the second round, prompting awkward moments in the draft green room. Today, Levis finds himself out of a starter's job after his Tennessee Titans selected Cam Ward with the first overall pick. It is a less than ideal situation for the third-year quarterback who once thought he would be the future of the franchise. "Anyone who's ever been in my situation would agree that it sucks," Levis said Wednesday, via Main Street Nashville. But the chin stays up, and the mentality stays the same. "I'm just trying to do the best I can to not let it affect me and just being the same dude every day in the building and being there for the guys however I can and just trying to get better every day," Levis said. Despite a new role, Levis plans on treating every day like he has in the last few years. "I haven't been a backup in a while, but I don't plan on shifting my mindset, regardless of what the situation is," he said. "I'm just going to be ready to play quarterback whenever my name is called." Levis showed promise early on, throwing four touchdowns in his NFL debut. But, overall, it's been less than stellar. In 21 games, he has a 5-16 record and has thrown for 3,899 yards and 21 touchdowns against 16 interceptions. He's completed just 61% of his passes. Levis figures to be the favorite to win the backup job against Tim Boyle and Brandon Allen. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Titans QB Will Levis on current situation: 'It sucks'
Will Levis was nothing short of candid when addressing his situation at quarterback with the Tennessee Titans. With No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward on the roster -- wearing the No. 1 of former franchise great Warren Moon -- there could be a new starting QB in Tennessee. While Titans coach Brian Callahan insists that nothing has been decided at quarterback, Levis sounds like somebody who will have to start proving his value all over again. "Anyone who's ever been in my situation would agree that it sucks," Levis said, per Main Street Nashville. "I'm just trying to do the best I can to not let it affect me and just being the same dude every day in the building and being there for the guys however I can and just trying to get better every day." A second-round pick out of Kentucky in 2023, Levis arrived in Nashville with lofty expectations. However, in 21 career games (all starts), Levis has completed 61.0 percent of his passes for 3,899 yards and 21 touchdowns with 16 interceptions. "I haven't been a backup in a while, but I don't plan on shifting my mindset, regardless of what the situation is," Levis said. "I'm just going to be ready to play quarterback whenever my name is called." This offseason, Levis spent time in California working with former NFL QB Jordan Palmer. "It was a lot of just relearning my stroke, relearning my body and trying to get back to the basics of that. I feel like it's really paid off," Levis said. "I've been feeling good the last few weeks." Along with Ward, Levis is also competing at quarterback with veterans Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle. --Field Level Media

Titans QB Will Levis: My situation 'sucks' after Cam Ward draft pick
Will Levis is in an unenviable position, as he went from the Tennessee Titans' primary quarterback to presumably being their backup, with the franchise selecting Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Levis was candid about his situation. "Anyone who's ever been in my situation would agree that it sucks," Levis said on Wednesday, according to "I'm just trying to do the best I can to not let it affect me and just being the same dude every day in the building and being there for the guys however I can and just trying to get better every day." Levis is coming off a turbulent 2024 season, which saw the Titans go 2-10 in the games that he started; he missed time due to a shoulder injury and was benched for Mason Rudolph late in the year. In what was his second season in the NFL, Levis ranked 52nd among quarterbacks in rushing grade (58.2), 60th in overall grade (54.9) and 62nd in passing grade (54.6), according to Pro Football Focus. Levis started 21 games for the Titans from 2023-24, with the team going 5-16. He averaged 1,950 passing yards, 11 passing touchdowns, eight interceptions and an 82.7 passer rating per season, while completing 61.0% of his passes. Despite losing his starting job, Levis remains dialed in. "I haven't been a backup in a while, but I don't plan on shifting my mindset, regardless of what the situation is," Levis said. "I'm just going to be ready to play quarterback whenever my name is called." The Titans traded up to select Levis with the No. 33 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Kentucky. Levis started two seasons for the Wildcats (2021-22), most notably helping lead them to a 10-3 record in 2021, which was preceded by two seasons at Penn State, with whom he was primarily a backup to starting quarterback Sean Clifford. Outside of Ward, a 2024 Heisman Trophy finalist, and Levis, Tennessee's quarterback room also includes Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Titans coach Brian Callahan trying to temper expectations for rookie QB Cam Ward
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee coach Brian Callahan is doing his best to temper expectations that rookie Cam Ward will be the Titans' starting quarterback the season. The Titans still have the offseason to complete, not to mention training camp and the preseason before opening this upcoming season Sept. 7 at Denver. So don't even look at who's rotating in at quarterback. Callahan said Wednesday the Titans don't even have a breakdown of first team, second team or starters on the second day of the team's third phase of the offseason program. Who goes first today might be different the next. 'There's a plan in place for all the quarterbacks,' Callahan said. That's just fine for Ward. The No. 1 pick overall out of Miami is expected to be that starter once the season begins if only because of where he was selected combined with Tennessee going 3-14 with Will Levis who was 2-10 as a starter in 2024. 'I'm on Coach Callahan timeline, so that's really not my decision,' Ward said. 'But I know I still got a lot to work on, a lot of processing to do to play in the NFL. I think I'm getting up there at a rapid pace. And so, I'm excited. Well, I just think the biggest thing for me is it's, you know, just taking it day by day.' The rotation was real Wednesday with Brandon Allen, who played for the Titans coach in Cincinnati, taking the first snap in one drill. When Ward isn't in drills, he said he's focused on formations, play calls and motions to keep learning the offense. The rookie made a couple of nice deep throws to Chimere Dike and Elic Ayomanor. Ward showed he's still a rookie with the ball hitting the ground on a snap. Veteran center Lloyd Cushenberry is recovering from an Achilles tendon injury that ended his first season in Tennessee after eight games. Ward also credited Levis with being among the first players to come up to him in the locker room ready to compete and work. Ward said it's been exciting to work with someone who's played actual NFL games. 'I'll be able to take a little advice from him so it's been good,' Ward said. For his part, Levis said he had plenty of time before the April draft to get used to the idea of Tennessee using the No. 1 pick overall at his position. That helped ease the shock of Ward being taken. Levis still has to deal with a new challenge of likely being the backup if Tennessee doesn't trade him before the opener. 'Anyone who's ever been in my situation can agree that it (stinks),' Levis said. 'Just trying to do everything I can to not let it affect me. Just being just the same dude every day in the building and being here for the guys however I can and just trying to get better every day.' Callahan said he can see real improvement out of Levis after the quarterback worked this offseason with Jordan Palmer in California on his footwork, base and ability to control the ball. The Titans also said Levis understands that being a pro quarterback means competing every day to keep a job. Levis sprinted from drill to drill Wednesday. But a reminder of one of Levis' biggest struggles last season came when he was intercepted by Mark Perry for a pick-6 on the final play. Absences from workout DLs Jeffery Simmons and T'Vondre Sweat, WR Tyler Lockett and RG Kevin Zeitler were not seen Wednesday. CB L'Jarius Sneed and Cushenberry were not seen as they rehab from injuries. WR Treylon Burks, rookie S Kevin Winston Jr. and RB Kalel Mullings remained busy with rehab work on a side field. ___ AP NFL:

NFL analyst advises Pittsburgh Steelers to trade for experienced 25-year-old QB
Preparation for the 2025 NFL season has already begun, but soon enough, teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers will be reporting to training camp. While teams may have their internal depth chart written in pencil, over the next few months those position battles will get etched in stone, and there are still questions about the Steelers' starting quarterback. If the season started tomorrow, the Steelers would roll out 29-year-old Mason Rudolph as their starting QB. Yet, they'd also be projected to miss the playoffs and likely have a losing record for the first time in Mike Tomlin's 18 years as Pittsburgh's head coach, and the Steelers have bigger goals in mind. Advertisement While the Steelers still anticipate Aaron Rodgers signing a contract with them, team owner Art Rooney II admitted the team can't wait forever for the four-time NFL MVP. So, if the Steelers do want to sprinkle some more competition into a room that also features sixth-round rookie Will Howard plus former undrafted signee Skylar Thompson, they may have to consider trades. If so, Bleacher Report's Moe Moton recently had an intriguing idea, trading for Tennessee's Will Levis. 'Regardless of Aaron Rodgers' decision to play for the Steelers or retire, Pittsburgh should offer a fourth-round pick for Levis. Rodgers will turn 42 in December. At this point, he's a year-to-year player. Levis has two years left on his rookie deal. If the Steelers finish the 2025 season with a mediocre record and Rodgers only sticks around for one year, they would at least have an experienced young starter in Levis, whom they can develop for the long term. In seven seasons, Mason Rudolph has been a game manager. At 25, Levis, with his big arm and mobility, has far more upside.' Bleacher Report's Moe Moton on Steelers trading for Will Levis While the Titans are expected to begin camp splitting reps between the 2023 second-round pick and the top overall pick of 2025 in Cam Ward, the rookie will likely secure the starting role by the time camp breaks. With Ward entrenched as Tennessee's QB of the future, the 25-year-old Levis could be viewed as expendable and the Steelers could do a lot worse than gambling on a player who has 21 starts to his name. Plus, Levis has displayed some serious zip on his passes, but he'll still need to work on becoming a more consistent passer who's capable of avoiding mistakes. Perhaps that transformation can take shape in Pittsburgh under a more conservative staff. Advertisement Related: 2025 NFL QB Rankings: Where do the Pittsburgh Steelers land? Related Headlines
