Eagles Former Rookie Not Getting Ahead of Himself in Sophomore Campaign

Eagles Former Rookie Not Getting Ahead of Himself in Sophomore Campaign originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Few rookie draft classes in NFL history have ever had the kind of success that the Philadelphia Eagles saw with their 2024 group. Advertisement Quinyon Mitchell finished second in the Defensive Rookie of the Year vote, Jalyx Hunt provided quality depth in key moments later in the season, and even Will Shipley saw some solid playing time. If we're discussing impact, though, no rookie solved a bigger piece to Philadelphia's piece to the puzzle than second-round corner Cooper DeJean. The Iowa product missed the first four games of the season with a hamstring injury, but entered the year in Week 5. Following his arrival into the starting lineup, the Eagles became the best defense in football almost overnight. DeJean quickly became a household name. His pick-six in Super Bowl LIX was a turning point in the game and showed just how impactful he had been. Advertisement Despite that previous success, DeJean knows he has plenty to do to continue to show he can be an elite player. 'I don't think, whether I've become more popular in the city or whatever, I don't think that's changed who I am as a person,' said DeJean. 'I'm still continuing to work, and to try and be the best I can be at my job. There are a lot of things I can get better at coming off of last season, that I can be ready for this season." DeJean's understanding shows that the Eagles have players who are never satisfied with where they currently are. It's a big reason why they remain as one of the top contenders moving forward in the 2025 season and beyond. Eagles rookie Will Shipley calls 1st NFL touchdown 'a dream come true' ahead of 1st Super Bowl

Philadelphia Eagles rookie running back Will Shipley shined on Championship Sunday, forcing an impressive fumble for the birds on a kickoff, followed by his first career touchdown in the final scoring drive of the team's decisive victory over the Washington Commanders to secure the team's spot in Super Bowl LIX. The 22-year-old from North Carolina joined "Good Morning America" live on Monday after the Eagles' victory and said "it's crazy" knowing he's Super Bowl bound. "So many emotions come with it. It's been a dream of mine since I knew what football was," he said. "So to actually be here and to be going down to New Orleans here in a couple weeks and have an opportunity to do so is just unbelievable." The Clemson star was the Eagles' 127th overall pick in Round 4 of the 2024 NFL Draft and has since recorded 82 rushing yards, 30 rushing attempts, 4 receptions on 35 yards with one force fumble and a touchdown in 16 games. "It was an awesome opportunity. We take a lot of pride in special teams -- I was just trying to get a hat on him, get a shoulder pad on him, and just try to get him down or slow him down any way," Shipley said of the moment before he forced Commanders kick returner Jeremy McNichols to fumble the ball on the return that set up the Eagles on the 25-yard line with 1 minute and 36 seconds to go in the first half. I felt it hit my leg so I was looking down trying to grab it and get it, but it got kicked backwards to Kenny Gainwell," Shipley said, referring to his teammate, who he said "was able to pick it up and we were able to score again before halftime and then get the ball after half." Shipley added, "I think it kind of gave us that momentum back and gave us the ability to carry it into the second half." With a commanding lead in the fourth quarter, Shipley had the final scoring play of the night under the lights at Lincoln Financial Field, finalizing the NFC Championship win and notching his first-ever NFL touchdown. Patrick and Brittany Mahomes celebrate Kansas City Chiefs advancing to Super Bowl LIX "It's just a dream come true, you know? And to do it in the NFC championship with my teammates and guys that I love... Saquon [Barkley], that's someone I look up to and someone that has taken me under his wing since I got drafted to this organization. I just couldn't be more thankful, couldn't be more blessed, and just to be able to share that with my teammates, my coaches, my friends and family who were able to come watch the game, is a special moment, one that I'll remember for the rest of my life." Will Shipley has a huge performance in the Eagles' NFC Championship win

Former Clemson star Will Shipley played a pivotal role in the Philadelphia Eagles' 55-23 victory over Washington in the NFC Championship Game, helping his team advance to Super Bowl LIX. A fourth-round pick in last year's NFL Draft, Shipley made an impact on special teams and offense. His 35-yard kickoff return early in the game set up Saquon Barkley's 60-yard touchdown on the next play, giving the Eagles early momentum. Later, Shipley forced a fumble on a Washington return, which led to a Jalen Hurts touchdown pass to A.J. Brown just before halftime. In the fourth quarter, Shipley showed his skills on offense with four carries for 77 yards, highlighted by a 57-yard run. He capped the drive with a 2-yard touchdown, helping the Eagles set an NFC Championship Game record with 55 points. At Clemson, Shipley was known for his versatility, tallying over 4,200 all-purpose yards, 2,747 rushing yards, and 31 touchdowns in three seasons. His rookie season with the Eagles was quiet, but his breakout championship performance signals a promising NFL career ahead. Fellow Clemson alum Jeremiah Trotter Jr. also contributed to the Eagles' win, showcasing the Tigers' continued influence in the NFL.
