Swindon star accidentally linked with move to Champions League clubs
Swindon Town defender Will Wright has mistakenly been linked with Liverpool and Arsenal this week after a mix-up with pictures. The transfer window is clicking into high gear with the window closing in just over a month's time on September 1, with plenty of moves and rumours going around. Having assembled a strong squad this summer, Swindon will be trying to keep hold of their key men, chief among them is last season's Swindon Advertiser Player of the Season, Wright. However, some outlets believe that it might not be so easy, as BBC Sport and AFTV have erroneously suggested that he could be off to Liverpool or Arsenal. This is because the two Premier League giants are after the Town man's namesake at Salford City, where the 17-year-old striker, also called Will Wright, is subject to plenty of interest. Both sources have used a picture of Wright in their coverage of the move, which BBC Sport have reported will soon see the youngster join Liverpool for £200,000, evidently selecting the wrong Will Wright when searching for images of the young striker. Fortunately, Town do not have to worry about the two Champions League outfits swooping in and taking their main man at the back. BBC Sport's article on Wright's move to Liverpool (Image: BBC Sport) At present, plenty of clubs admire Wright. Exeter City made a bid for him late on in January; however have not yet returned, and no other club has formalised their interest so far this summer. Only Harry Smith and Botan Ameen have had bids so far. Earlier in the summer, Swindon were considering making an offer to extend Wright's contract as he only has a year to run on the deal he signed after joining from Crawley Town last summer. However, with Ian Holloway getting into the thick of his transfer dealings, this moved down his priority list, and he said Wright will have to demonstrate once again why he is worthy of a longer contract at the Nigel Eady County Ground. He said in June: 'We have still got our two men of the season from last year, they haven't gone anywhere. Yes, they have only got another year on their contracts, but they might have to earn another one as well. 'I would have liked to have gotten them sorted, but I have been too busy with all of the other things. 'But I think we are in a really good place. How many times have we had our two Players of the Season and Young Player of the Season stay here? Not many.'
