Raheem Sterling urged to join Arsenal's London rivals with Emirates loan up and Chelsea career all-but over

RAHEEM STERLING has been urged to seek a "fresh challenge" at Premier League side Fulham. The 30-year-old winger is set to return to Chelsea now that his season-long loan at Arsenal has ended. 4 Sterling hoped to revive his career under Mikel Arteta after being frozen out by Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca last summer. But he failed to make an impact at the Emirates, scoring just once in 28 appearances. The four-time Premier League winner started just SEVEN out of 29 available league games this season. Sterling struggled for game-time, with Arteta even reluctant to rely on him during Arsenal 's injury crisis in forward areas. The Spaniard often played 18-year-old Ethan Nwaneri to cover Bukayo Saka 's right flank and turned midfielder Mikel Merino into a No 9 when Kai Havertz was ruled out for months. While Sterling is now set to return to Chelsea, he does not have a future at the club while Maresca is still in charge. But ex-Arsenal and Chelsea defender William Gallas has tipped the England international for another Prem club this summer. Gallas thinks Sterling could benefit from following several Arsenal stars who have left North London for game time at Fulham. Join SUN CLUB for the Chelsea Files every Tuesday plus in-depth coverage and exclusives from Stamford Bridge Gallas told Casino Games:"I think it's time for a fresh challenge for Sterling. "I think one of Arteta's biggest mistakes has been a lack of rotation at times because they have picked up injuries. Thierry Henry hits out at Mikel Arteta as trophyless Arsenal are shown up by 'the Man Utd that everyone laughs at' 4 "You have to give players a rest at certain times, but with Sterling, he must be frustrated, maybe he will want to stay in the Premier League and in London. "He's 30 now, but maybe a club like Fulham could give him that opportunity and more chances to play." The Cottagers enjoyed another steady season under Marco Silva, finishing 11th in the Prem and reaching the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. Goalkeeper Bernd Leno, midfielder Alex Iwobi and Emile Smith Rowe all joined Fulham from the Gunners over the last few seasons, while Willian played for all three clubs, including Chelsea. Sterling was one of the marquee signings of the early Todd Boehly era, joining for £47.5m in the summer of 2022 from Manchester City. He earns an eye-watering £325,000-per-week in wages, with his contract expiring in 2027. Sterling enjoyed the best period of his career at Man City, scoring over 100 goals for the club and lifting 12 trophies. The Wembley-born winger was named PFA Young Player of the Year at City in 2018/2019.

William Gallas names surprise team his Premier League flops of the season

William Gallas has ignored the struggles of Manchester United and Tottenham to name a surprise team as his Premier League flops of the season. On the domestic front it has been a season of strife, bitterness and calamity for both United and Spurs who are languishing embarrassingly close to the bottom three. Indeed, were it not for the ineptitude of Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich then two Premier League stalwarts would have been fighting to stave off relegation. Their campaigns, however, could still end up with a Europa League sliver lining after both clubs won the first legs of their semi finals last night. It was a different story for Arsenal, however, who now face a mountain to climb after they were fortunate to escape from their game against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday with just a one-goal defeat. Having failed to keep pace with runaway title-winners Liverpool and capitalise on the failures of Manchester City and Chelsea, Gallas cannot look past Mikel Arteta's men for the unwanted moniker of this season's biggest disappointments. 'In the Premier League, Arsenal are my flops of the season!' the former Arsenal captain told Prime Casino. 'If you compare last season and the one from two years ago with this season, their performance has not been good at all. 'Their performances in the Premier League have not been good enough. I'm sorry, I'm still disappointed in them, regardless of the Champions League. After those high quality and world class performances against Real Madrid, I wanted more from them in the league.' He added: 'I'm angry about what happened in the league. I'm furious even, because I can't accept one level of performance in the Champions League and a different level of performance in the Premier League from this group of players. More Trending 'You have to show up in every game. I'm disappointed because Arsenal didn't do that this season and I tipped them to win the title in August. 'They had a great opportunity to become champions this season, and they let it go without a fight. That's frustrating and difficult for me to understand. 'Yes, you can say that they had some injury problems, but I don't like excuses.' 'Shocking' Tottenham slammed for 'disrespecting' fans before Bodo/Glimt semi-final

Tottenham are looking to salvage some positivity from a dreadful season by earning success in the Europa League and they must first find a way past semi-final opponents Bodo/Glimt William Gallas has ripped into Tottenham's stars for their dismal Premier League efforts ahead of their Europa League semi-final. The Lilywhites sit in the bottom half of the Premier League but face Bodo/Glimt in the last four of the European competition. Spurs were dismantled by Liverpool at Anfield ahead of facing their Norwegian opponents and suffered their 19th loss in the Premier League. While the north London side are safe from relegation, they could yet finish just one place above the bottom three and are a single point above West Ham having lost their last three league matches. ‌ And ex-defender Gallas believes that Tottenham's stars have disrespected their supporters. The Frenchman, who spent three seasons at White Hart Lane during his career, lamented the efforts of Ange Postecoglou's stars. ‌ "The Tottenham players, what they are thinking right now?" Gallas said to Prime Casino. "Because now they know they are safe in the Premier League. Their position is what, 16th? It's very crazy. It's shocking. It's very disrespectful to the fans. It's not good enough. "They will stay in the Premier League, that's what they are thinking right now. They are thinking only about that semi-final they have to play in the Europa League. "All of them are thinking about the semi-final. They don't care about winning games in the Premier League anymore. That's unacceptable." Gallas believes Postecoglou could lose his job without winning the Europa League this term. The Aussie's position has already come under a great deal of scrutiny and he is under growing pressure, despite repeatedly defending his position. "If they win the Europa League, OK, everybody will clap," Gallas added. "But we don't know if you will manage it. But if they don't, I'm sorry. I think the manager is going to be sacked. Some players, they don't know how to defend, they are not defending, they are not giving 100 percent." ‌ Speaking ahead of the game against Bodo/Glimt, James Maddison revealed he was embarrassed by Spurs' efforts against Liverpool. 'No-one in the whole club - from top to bottom - can be satisfied internally, to be satisfied with where we are. It definitely hurts. I had to do an interview at Liverpool on Sunday and we had lost 5-1," he said. "It is a little bit embarrassing, I am a bit embarrassed myself and you have to go and talk. And I know no-one actually wants to hear what I have got to say because they want to see the reaction. And get the reaction. "And that is the chance we have on Thursday night which is the beauty of the quick turnaround because we can go and put it right on Thursday if we get a good result."

'If he can' – William Gallas makes big Enzo Maresca future claim

William Gallas is confident Enzo Maresca is the right man for the job and hopes he remains in charge of Chelsea next season. Maresca was appointed as Mauricio Pochettino's successor last summer after guiding Leicester to the Championship title, signing a five year deal at Stamford Bridge. The Italian made a brilliant start to life in west London, with Chelsea flying high in second at Christmas, but things have taken a turn since then. Maresca has coming under increasing pressure, with the Blues struggling for form since Christmas, and fans have become increasingly frustrated with the style of play. Chelsea currently sit fifth in the Premier League level on points with Nottingham Forest who have a game in hand, whilst they are still on course to win the Conference League. The Blues face a tricky run-in with tough games against Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester United and Forest as they look to secure Champions League qualification. Maresca's job is believed to be safe, although if the Blues miss out on Champions League football that could potentially change. However, Gallas has had his say on the 45-year-old and stated he believes he's the right man to be in the Stamford Bridge dugout. 'For Maresca, he knows what and who he needs to change for next year,' Gallas said as cited on 'If he can go out and sign one world-class striker and one world-class central defender, then I expect Chelsea to be challenging next season.
