Iran says it warned US destroyer to move away from waters monitored by Tehran
DUBAI (Reuters) -Iran warned a U.S. destroyer on Wednesday to change course after it approached waters being monitored by the Islamic Republic, leading the U.S. ship to turn away, Iranian state media reported. The U.S. Navy and U.S. Central Command, which overseas U.S. forces in the Middle East, had no immediate comment on the report. The reported incident follows U.S. strikes last month on Iranian nuclear facilities that Washington says were part of a program geared towards developing nuclear weapons. Tehran maintains that its nuclear programme is for purely civilian purposes. "U.S. destroyer 'Fitzgerald' attempted to approach waters under Iran's monitoring in a provocative move", Iranian state TV said, adding that a Navy helicopter quickly approached the destroyer and issued a stern warning to leave the area. The U.S. destroyer threatened the Iranian helicopter, but moved out of the area upon continued warning, state TV said. Iranian state media identified the vessel in question as "DDG Fitzgerald", adding the Iranian Army contacted the vessel asserting the helicopter was under its protection and asking the ship to change it direction to the south. IMF cuts India's growth forecast amid tariff uncertainty
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday cut its economic growth forecast for India for the current fiscal year, citing increased trade tensions and global uncertainty. The IMF lowered its forecast for the South Asian country to 6.2% from the 6.5% it had forecast in January for the fiscal year that started on April 1. "For India, the growth outlook is relatively more stable at 6.2% in 2025 supported by private consumption, particularly in rural areas," the IMF said in its World Economic Outlook report, where it slashed its forecasts for growth for most countries, citing the impact of U.S. tariffs. For India, it said it was cutting its forecast due to "higher levels of trade tensions and global uncertainty." (Reporting by Aftab Ahmed, Editing by William Maclean)

Swiss police arrest Australian man over stabbing in Zurich
ZURICH (Reuters) - Swiss police have arrested a 28-year-old Australian man suspected of stabbing and seriously injuring a 41-year-old man in a shop in central Zurich, authorities said. The motive for the attack on Saturday is still under investigation, police said in a statement. The Australian was arrested at the scene and the victim taken to hospital. Police declined to give further details on the identity of the victim and the perpetrator. Prosecutors could provide more information on Monday, a police spokesperson said. A number of stabbings have caused alarm in Europe in recent days, with an Algerian man arrested on Saturday in Mulhouse, France over a deadly knife attack, while a Syrian refugee was detained over a stabbing at Berlin's Holocaust memorial. On Thursday, a teenaged attacker killed two women with a knife in a shopping centre in the Czech city of Hradec Kralove. Last Saturday, a Syrian asylum seeker was arrested on suspicion of going on a stabbing rampage in southern Austria. (Writing by Dave Graham, Editing by William Maclean)

Iran arrests 13 Baha'is, accusing them of proselytising, Iranian media say
(Reuters) - Iran said it had arrested 13 adherents of the banned Baha'i faith accusing them of proselytising to children and adolescents, local media reported, drawing condemnation from an international organisation representing Baha'is. A statement on Saturday by the Revolutionary Guards' intelligence unit, carried by state media, said the arrests were made in the central city of Isfahan. It said the 13 arrested 'were acting illegally and were indirectly promoting their ideological deviation by exploiting children and adolescents.' It did not elaborate. The Baha'i International Community, which represents the faith worldwide, said in a statement that the arrested women "were facilitating simple children's classes – arresting them is the equivalent of arresting people for teaching Sunday school." Simin Fahandej, Representative of the Baha'i International Community to the U.N. in Geneva, described the arrests as a senseless act against innocent women. Last month a group of U.N. special rapporteurs expressed serious concern at what they described as a rise in systematic targeting of Baha'i women in Iran, including through arrests, interrogation and enforced disappearances. The Iranian government responded that Baha'i women faced no restrictions. The Islamic Republic considers the Baha'i faith a heretical offshoot of Islam. Its faithful see Baha'i as an independent religion and its more than five million followers are spread across more than 190 countries. Exiled Baha'i leaders say hundreds of followers have been jailed and executed since the establishment of the Islamic Republic in 1979. ( Editing by William Maclean)
