Big Brothers Big Sisters sells license plates to raise money for mentorship program
BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Big Brothers Big Sisters is a mentoring organization that matches children from single-parent homes with adult mentors. Mentors work with children one-on-one, focusing on education and life-skill building. They currently have 61 partnerships and 22 kids waiting to be matched. Before they can create matches, volunteers have to go through background checks. Each one costs $1,250. To help raise money, Big Brothers Big Sisters has license plates available. You can stop by your local tax collector's office to buy a license plate for $72.60. WCSO invites public to join funeral procession to honor Deputy William May For each license plate sold, $25 goes towards one-on-one mentoring programs. Big Brothers Big Sisters area manager Leanne Gaudet says the program helps change kids' lives. 'Our kids, you know, we just see them do better in so many avenues once they have a mentor in their lives. We see their grades get better, we see their self-esteem improve, and we see them do better with as far as relationships with peers. And we see them just overall be happier kids that get to be kids,' Gaudet said. The biggest need is for Big Brothers, they have a long list of boys that are in need of a mentor. Mural dedicated to fallen Walton County deputy on Pensacola's Graffiti Bridge
PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — A tribute to fallen Walton County Sheriff's Office Deputy William May on display for the folks of downtown Pensacola by artist Rod Leisure, also known as RodmanVisions. Honor Walk and procession for fallen Walton County deputy starting in Pensacola 'My girlfriend saw it on Facebook, and I said, 'Well, let's go paint the bridge for him,' said Leisure. Graffiti Bridge's social media post on Friday has gone viral, with over 1,500 likes and 500 shares on Facebook. Rodman took his time selecting these particular style choices, wanting the mural to have a clean look. Walton County deputy killed in line of duty 'I wanted to do some really classy looking lettering on this one. That was the main focus of this and, I mean, obviously sharing the love and condolences. Walton County Sheriff's Office offers ways to donate to fallen deputy's family
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) – In a Facebook post, the Walton County Sheriff's office has provided multiple ways that members of the community can donate to fallen WCSO Deputy William May's family. Mays was killed Wednesday in the line of duty. Those wishing to donate are encouraged to write a check and mail it to the Walton County Sheriff's Office at 10 Sheriff Circle, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32433, with a note for Deputy William May's family. If you wish to make a donation online, the Florida Deputy Sheriff's Association is accepting donations through their Lend a Hand program. If you would like to make a non-monetary donation, the Walton County Sheriff's office has set up an email to answer questions and coordinate efforts.
