Phillies Land Yankees' Devin Williams in Blockbuster Trade Idea
The Philadelphia Phillies will have a few ways to improve at the deadline. With Jose Alvarado suspended for the postseason and 80 games in the regular season, there's no debate that the team will be interested in trading for a reliever. However, without giving up one of their top prospects, there might not be much chance for the Phillies to land an elite arm. Despite that reality, Clutch Points' Garrett Kerman proposed the idea for the Phillies to trade for Devin Williams of the New York Yankees, arguably the best closer in baseball when he's at his best. Advertisement Yes, Williams has struggled to start the year, but he's typically been excellent throughout his career, and it isn't out of the question to suggest that he'll bounce back and look like himself soon. Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson during the eighth inning against the Washington Nationals at Citizens Bank Streicher-Imagn Images His trade idea would only move Jordan Viars and Andrew Baker, allowing the Phillies to land a star without giving up too much. 'The Phillies could gamble on Williams' elite changeup-still generating a .209 xBA-by trading Jordan Viars, a power-hitting outfielder stuck behind Philadelphia's MLB-ready prospects, and reliever Andrew Baker. 'Williams' $9 million expiring contract is a low-risk investment, and a reunion with pitching coach Caleb Cotham (who oversaw Williams' 2023 breakout in Milwaukee) might unlock his prior form. If Williams rediscovers even 80% of his peak ability, he'd offer a proven late-inning option alongside Jordan Romano,' Kerman wrote. Advertisement The Yankees wouldn't have much reason to take this deal, even if they want to move on from Williams at the deadline. However, from their perspective, it seems likely that he'll be on the roster past July 31. William has started figuring it out recently, a promising sign for a Yankees team looking to win a World Series just like the Phillies. 2 Men Missing After Boat Sinks Off Coast of Alaskan Island
Samuel Shavings, 72, joined neighbors Albert Williams, 65, and Williams' 19-year-old son for a fishing trip on Monday, May 26 During their excursion, their boat sank off the coast of Western Alaska near Nunivak Island in the Bering Sea Williams' son was able to swim safety, but his father and Shavings are still missingTwo men are still missing after the boat they were on sank off the coast of Western Alaska on Monday, May 26, according to an Alaska State Trooper (AST) news release. Albert Williams, 65, and Samuel Shavings, 72, were on a 10-foot Ocean Pro boat with Williams' 19-year-old son near Mekoryuk, a town located on Nunivak Island in the Bering Sea. Mekoryuk is a village of about 300 people on Nunivak Island in Western Alaska, and is 550 miles west of Anchorage. Around 9 p.m. local time, AST received a call that a boat sank in rough water conditions. The 19-year-old swam to shore and was transported to a clinic for further evaluation and treatment. Initially, the AST reported that a second man had been recovered safely, per Alaska News Source. However, on Tuesday, May 27, AST "corrected" its previous report and confirmed that both men are still missing. Williams' daughter, Dallas, told the outlet that her father and brother were out subsistence fishing with their neighbor, Shavings. 'They were looking — my dad hadn't gotten a seal yet this spring — so they went to go look for seals,' she explained. 'It's a seasonal thing every spring.' She then explained how the boat sank. 'My brother says that [the sea] was getting really rough and they were taking water in from the motor side,' she said. 'And it just filled up with too much water.' 'We have a whole bunch of family coming over to be with my mom so that we're not alone,' Dallas said. 'A lot of people have been bringing food, so we haven't been alone at all since.' The ASP reported that two local boats and the U.S. Coast Guard searched for the men from Monday night to Tuesday morning. Additionally, the Rescue Coordination Center planned to launch a C-130 plane on Tuesday morning. Former Broncos' 2nd-round pick looks to improve success rate of Cowboys attack in 2025
Former Broncos' 2nd-round pick looks to improve success rate of Cowboys attack in 2025 Javante Williams probably won't be setting the NFL on fire with breakaway runs or elite EPA production, but an improved success rate will pay off It's difficult to say exactly where expectations should be for Cowboys running back Javonte Williams. The four-year veteran has been missing a degree of sizzle from his game since suffering a knee injury in 2022. He's posted just 3.6 and 3.7 yards per rushing attempt in the last two seasons, making him an underwhelming favorite to win the starting job in 2025. The thinking is with Williams now two full years removed from injury, the 25-year-old is primed for a bounce back campaign. Dallas clearly thinks they can get more from Williams, signing him to a one-year, $3 million deal over the offseason. Re-signing Rico Dowdle, last season's rushing leader, could have saved them money so it's fair to say they think Williams offers more than what Dowdle served up in his 1,000-yard campaign in 2024. Once upon a time Williams was regarded a top young rusher in this league. After leading college football with a 0.48 missed tackles/attempt, Williams amassed 903 rushing yards off 4.4 yards/attempt ranking 18th in Pro Football Focus grades his rookie season. That's the type of player the Cowboys hope to field in 2025 and that's the level of player who will move the needle in the Dallas ground game. It's possible Williams never rediscovers his fastest gear in the NFL. His 4.55 speed in college was never a strength and it seems after the injury his speed is now a clear weakness. So while game breaking plays may be fantasy in 2025, his usefulness is well within reason. He's still the big, multi-tool RB he was before the injury and his shiftiness and tackle-breaking ability aren't dependent on him finding that missing gear. How Williams really stands to help the Cowboys is through his successful play percentage. A successful play is any snap that increases the offense's chance of scoring. The old 'three yards and a cloud of dust' typically falls outside that threshold meaning actual productivity beyond that will be required. The Cowboys ground game operated with a success rate of just 40.3% in 2024, good enough for 14th in the NFL. It's a far cry from where the Cowboys want to be as a run-heavy team this coming season and an area in which things have to change quickly. Of the four RBs who logged 70 or more rushing attempts in Denver last season, Williams posted the lowest success rate of the bunch. It's one of the reasons he was available for the taking in free agency and a legitimate cause for concern heading into 2025 with Dallas. Based on Williams' strengths and weaknesses, it's unlikely he's going to be a top EPA earner running the ball for the Cowboys, but he could possibly rebound to be their top producer in success rate. Efficiency, not highlights, will be the key to Williams' success in Dallas. Monaco's magic fades as Formula 1 seeks answers
Formula One pondered a perennial, if distinctly rich world, problem after a weekend of sunshine, champagne and fast cars going slower than usual: How to make the Monaco Grand Prix more of a race? Sunday's annual procession around the streets of Monte Carlo served up 78 laps without an overtake and drivers, faced with the new challenge of a second mandatory pitstop, driving tactically to score points. Monaco has never been big on overtaking, with an anachronistically tight and twisty layout that affords few if any opportunities for today's larger and heavier cars and is the slowest on the 24-race calendar. There were lots of suggestions for what might be done to spice things up, without making everything too artificial. They ranged from the minimalist - accept Monaco for what it is and enjoy the atmosphere - to remodelling the track or modifying the cars. "We definitely need to have a real think about what the solution is in Monaco," said Mercedes' George Russell after a frustrating afternoon following Williams' Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz without finding a way past. "I appreciate trying something this year in the two-stop. Clearly, it did not work at all." Russell mentioned a qualifying competition - one on Saturday and another on Sunday with points for both - as an alternative to even trying to have a race, a move which would certainly offend the purists.

Albon buys Russell dinner after Monaco strategy block
Formula One F1 - Monaco Grand Prix - Circuit de Monaco, Monaco - May 24, 2025 Williams' Alexander Albon during qualifying Pool via REUTERS/Andrej Isakovic MONACO - Williams driver Alex Albon paid a price for keeping George Russell out of the points in Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix -- the bill for dinner with his Mercedes friend and rival. Russell finished 11th, behind Albon in ninth and Williams' Carlos Sainz in 10th. The Williams drivers used strategy, driving comparatively slowly and swapping positions to create gaps and allow each other time to pit without losing places on a track where overtaking is practically impossible. Russell, who had been one of only four drivers to score in every race this season, said Albon would be paying for dinner. Albon then posted a photograph on Instagram of the pair together and him holding up the bill with the caption "You're welcome". Russell collected a drive through penalty for cutting the chicane to get ahead of Albon, frustrated at being unable to pass any other way. "The strategy was for Kimi (Antonelli) and I to help each other out and gain positions throughout the race. Unfortunately, Williams and Racing Bulls opted for the same strategy, and it left us without any real options," he said. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff revealed that Williams principal James Vowles, who used to work with him, had texted to apologise. "I'm sorry. We had no choice given what happened ahead'," said Vowles in the message, read out by Wolff. "I answered 'we know'," said the Austrian. "James is one of my guys, and I don't want to sound patronising, because he's making a career as a team principal, and he's doing really well," he added. Racing Bulls had Isack Hadjar finish sixth and Liam Lawson eighth after the New Zealander held up traffic and allowed his French teammate to build up a lead without fear of being overtaken.
