Initial probe finds no issues with crashed Boeing 787: Air India CEO

Mumbai: Air India chief executive Campbell Wilson said the preliminary probe into the June 12 crash of flight AI171 found no mechanical or maintenance issues with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. After the crash, the airline conducted checks across its entire 787 fleet and more inspections are ongoing under regulatory oversight, he wrote Monday to Air India employees in an email ET has seen. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau 's (AAIB) preliminary report "identified no cause nor made any recommendations," he said, and cautioned against premature conclusions. "The investigation is far from over," he wrote. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Sunteck Launches Windcrest Collection 2 & 3 BHKs from ₹1.27 Cr* Sunteck Sky Park Learn More Undo The AAIB's 15-page report, released over the weekend, stated that both engine fuel control switches of the aircraft were moved from "RUN" to "CUTOFF" shortly after take-off, resulting in the loss of thrust. The report does not establish who moved the switches or why. According to the cockpit voice recording cited in the report, one of the pilots is heard asking the other why he cut off the fuel supply. "The other pilot responded that he did not do so," said the report. There was no abnormality in the aircraft's take-off roll, no issue with fuel quality and all the required maintenance tasks had been completed, Wilson said. The pilots had passed their mandatory pre-flight breathalyser checks and there were no observations regarding their medical condition, he said. Live Events He said every 787 in Air India's fleet was inspected "within days of the accident", with oversight from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. "All were found fit for service," Wilson said, adding that further checks are being carried out as needed. "We continue to perform all necessary checks, as we will any new ones that authorities may suggest." He said the release of the preliminary report had triggered renewed speculation in the media. "Over the past 30 days, we've seen an ongoing cycle of theories, allegations, rumours and sensational headlines, many of which have later been disproven," he said. Wilson said the AAIB report had provided "greater clarity" on some aspects of the event, but also raised new questions. He reiterated that the airline would continue cooperating with investigators to support a full and thorough inquiry. He also addressed employees directly, adding that the period since the accident has been difficult, and that the focus must remain on supporting those affected and maintaining operational reliability. "Let us not be diverted from what are our top priorities: standing by the bereaved and those injured, working together as a team, and delivering a safe and reliable air travel experience," he wrote. Flight AI171, operating from Ahmedabad to London's Gatwick, crashed shortly after take-off on June 12, killing some 275 people, including 241 passengers and crew. A final report from the AAIB is still pending.

Raw material crunch halts projects, labourers in limbo

Mangaluru: The acute shortage of sand and laterite stones in Dakshina Kannada has delayed several real estate projects, putting thousands of workers' jobs at risk. Developers say they are running out of existing stock, and many have already stopped plastering works. The real estate industry employs thousands of unskilled and skilled labourers. The shortage has heavily impacted it. Naveen Cardoza, MD, Marian Projects Private Limited, noted that his ongoing two projects were slowed down due to the shortage. "It has been 45 days without supply. How can one go ahead with the work? It is not possible when there is no raw material. If the situation further worsens, all builders will have to stop their ongoing projects," he said. "The irony is that raw material is unavailable both in the black market and the legal market. If the deadlock continues, it will affect the local economy. The govt should come up with legal ways to make these raw materials available at the earliest," stressed Rohan Monteiro, MD of Rohan Corporation. He said he deferred 10 upcoming projects due to the ongoing crisis, which lasted 45 days. Real estate promoters further pointed out that all the construction workers returned to work after a brief summer vacation to the site. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Sunteck Launches Windcrest Collection 2 & 3 BHKs from ₹1.27 Cr* Sunteck Sky Park Learn More Undo "We will have to send them back again, or they themselves will go to places which have job opportunities, leaving us further crippled. If we buy M-sand and stones as alternatives to laterite, the cost of construction will rise, which will directly impact home buyers," pointed out another realtor, adding that currently many have stopped plastering work as it needs a good amount of sand. "The shortage will delay projects. However, there will be no extension given by the Real Estate Regulatory Authority of Karnataka (RERA)," they stated. Another realtor, who is currently helping in drafting the sand and laterite stone policy for the region, said that laterite stones are available only in coastal areas and some parts of Malnad. "It was categorised as minor minerals, and a separate policy was planned in 2015. However, even after a decade, there is no concrete policy for it," the realtor pointed out.

Image via WWE John Cena kept his personal life and relationships majorly out of the limelight for a lot of years. It wasn't until the early 2010s that Cena came out to the public with his relationship with fellow WWE superstar Nikki Bella. The duo was seen as a true power couple in the company and stayed together for years. Despite Cena proposing to her in front of the whole world, their relationship ultimately fell apart, and the real reason was justifiable for them to separate. John Cena and Nikki Bella were a highly popular WWE power couple John Cena and Nikki Bella's relationship became public in 2012. The duo was heavily featured as a couple on the reality series, 'Total Divas' and 'Total Bellas.' This also translated into Cena and Bella sharing screen space on WWE television programming. They were involved in a feud with The Miz and Maryse and defeated them in a mixed tag team match at WrestleMania 33. However, he stood firm on his stance on not wanting to have kids. Sometime later, after their engagement, the duo were seen discussing the issue on an episode of Total Bellas and decided to part ways. Another possible reason could have been Cena's strict rules and personality, which were evident on the reality shows. It showed Nikki Bella signing a contract to stay in Cena's home, following his house rules and being a roadblock in many of her matters. Eventually, they split in 2018 and went on to marry different partners. John Cena tied the knot with Shay Shariatzadeh in 2020 and continues to live a happily married life with her. However, Nikki Bella's marriage to Dancing with the Stars choreographer Artem Chigvinstev ended in divorce in 2024 following a domestic assault and battery lawsuit. Nikki Bella and John Cena are now on different paths, but had a cordial meeting backstage at the 2025 Royal Rumble event, as revealed by Bella. While they are no longer together, Cena and Bella continue to have respect for each other. FIR lodged against UP tehsildar for backdating property transfers; DM calls it corruption, recommends suspension

BAREILLY: Arun Sonkar, the Sadar Tehsildar (Judicial) in Shahjahanpur, got into trouble for backdating the transfer of 12 properties. On Tuesday, District Magistrate Dharmendra Pratap Singh deemed it an act of corruption and ordered the filing of an FIR. He also recommended Arun 's suspension and departmental action in a letter to the Revenue Board Commissioner. The DM said, 'Arun Sonkar engaged in corrupt practices by issuing backdated orders on all files. He pressured the current tehsildar to upload these files on the RCCMS portal. Arun Sonkar is now suspended, and departmental action is recommended. Instructions were also given to the SDM and tehsildar to file an FIR.' An initial investigation suggested that after his transfer, Arun colluded to issue transfer orders on plain paper, which were not recorded on the RCCMS (online) portal. Arun Sonkar was transferred to Sadar Tehsil on April 30. Recently, some advocates brought transfer files to Tehsildar Raghavesh Mani Tripathi in Powayan to have them registered on the portal. According to the rules, transfer orders should be barcoded and computerised. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Sunteck Launches Windcrest Collection 2 & 3 BHKs from ₹1.27 Cr* Sunteck Sky Park Learn More Undo However, these files had transfer orders written on plain paper with Arun Sonkar's signature but had no dates. This was reported to DM Dharmendra Pratap Singh, who summoned Arun and showed him the files. Arun admitted the signatures were his but claimed he forgot to date them. He re-signed and added the dates from his tenure in Powayan. Finding the matter suspicious, the DM ordered an investigation by ADM Judicial Rashid Ali. The ADM's report stated that notices sent to the buyer and seller were missing. Arun Sonkar transferred the properties on plain paper without affidavits from the parties after his transfer. The disposal of files without barcodes, signatures, and dates was deemed irregular. Based on the report, the DM ordered action. Attempts to contact Arun Sonkar for his response were unsuccessful.

Sukhbir Badal detained on way to Mohali court in support of Bikram Singh Majithia; Punjab minister Aman Arora says ‘Akali Dal has become Khali Dal'

CHANDIGARH: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal was detained by Mohali Police on Wednesday while attempting to march towards the district court complex in support of party leader Bikram Singh Majithia , who is under investigation in a disproportionate assets case. Badal was stopped and taken into custody outside Gurdwara Sri Amb Sahib in Mohali, along with hundreds of Akali supporters. His detention led to a heated exchange with senior police officials, including SP- and DSP-rank officers. The detained leaders and supporters were taken to the Phase 11 police station and instructed to remain there until the vigilance bureau completed Majithia's production procedure in court. Another senior SAD leader, Alwinder Pal Singh Pakhoke, and his associates were taken to the Singh Bhagwantpur police station. Across the state, several Akali leaders and workers attempting to converge on Mohali in solidarity with Majithia were also detained by local police as a preventive measure to thwart the protest. Speaking after his detention, Badal said he was on his way to pay obeisance at Gurdwara Sri Amb Sahib when police intercepted him. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Sunteck Launches Windcrest Collection 2 & 3 BHKs from ₹1.27 Cr* Sunteck Sky Park Learn More Undo 'Today, a devotee is not even allowed to visit a gurdwara. Is this democracy?' he asked. He also launched a scathing attack on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal , accusing them of misusing state machinery to silence the opposition. The Shiromani Akali Dal condemned the police action, calling it undemocratic and repressive. Party leaders have vowed to continue their protest against what they termed 'political vendetta' against Majithia. Meanwhile, Punjab Minister Aman Arora took a dig at the Akali Dal's claims of mass detentions, saying, 'Akali Dal has become 'Khali' Dal; they don't have thousands of workers,' in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
