‘Daredevil: Born Again' Season 2 Gets A Surprising Release Date

Daredevil: Born Again Daredevil: Born Again season 1 ended with one of the best finales in MCU history, and also, by far, the bloodiest, as Disney has seemingly let that crew do…whatever they want (Kingpin, ouch). It was always the plan for Daredevil: Born Again to run for at least two seasons (or by some accounts, one giant season broken in half), but with filming having been underway for a bit now, there's some good news on that front. Showrunner Dario Scardapane confirms that Daredevil: Born Again's season 2 release date will be in March of 2026, just one year after season 1 premiered. Yes, of course many years ago, especially in the age of broadcast TV, this used to be the standard gap between seasons. But in the streaming era, it's more often 1.5 to 2 years, with some big shows even pushing three year gaps. A one year gap for a show like Daredevil, which is say, more complicated than filming something like The Bear, another yearly offering, is impressive. Daredevil: Born Again Past season 2, it's already been said that they want to go beyond that and stay yearly. Here's head of Marvel TV Brand Winderbaum speaking to ScreenRant: And why they want to continue: When asked which former Netflix character he'd like to see return, Winderbaum said Jessica Jones. Given that he's…the head of Marvel TV, that seems likely to happen, whether it's a Daredevil guest appearance or the return of her own show. Former Danny Rand, Finn Jones, has recently said that fans should 'give him a chance' as Iron Fist, apparently wanting to take on the role again. Elodie Yung wants to return as Elektra, resurrected from season 2 of Daredevil. And here's ex-Luke Cage, Mike Colter 'I still have hopes for it…I don't think it's impossible. Anything can happen.' I think Marvel is attempting to assemble a harder-edge, R-rated street-level MCU outside of theaters. Before this, we had Echo. Now infinite seasons of Daredevil, perhaps. A Punisher special and the seemingly imminent return of Jessica Jones. And all the rest of the actors that got left behind apparently want to return too. So let's do it. 'No one wanted to do it' - Inside Daredevil: Born Again's most shocking twist

Daredevil giveth, and Daredevil taketh away. After a seven-year wait, Daredevil: Born Again has premiered its first two episodes on Disney+, and in its opening moments, fans were immediately reminded why they missed this show so much – and how quickly it could break their hearts. Warning: this article contains spoilers The first episode begins focusing on the camaraderie of its three lead characters – Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) and Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) – following them down the street as they go out after work. Their fun is interrupted, however, when a sniper attacks – and Foggy is killed. 'The decision led to a lot of sleepless nights, and many, many long creative discussions,' producer Brad Winderbaum tells The National. 'It's not something we took lightly. In fact, no one really wanted to do it – but we all realised we needed to do it.' The question, of course, is why? The simple answer is: This is Daredevil. What has made this character stand out from his countless contemporaries since the character was first introduced by Stan Lee and Bill Everett in 1964 is that he struggles more – both in his heart and in his circumstances, this is a character who is constantly pushed to his limits and finding a way to keep going. It's Marvel's version of the biblical Book of Job – a character whose faith is constantly tested, but never lost. And so, to reintroduce the show after such a long wait, Murdock had to be tested even further than he's ever been – and instantly. 'At the end of season three of the show, they lay out their dream,' says showrunner Dario Scardapane, referring to the three characters' ambitions towards running a law firm together. 'We show that the dream is realised, and then we start to take it apart. Everything had to change.' Winderbaum adds: 'Being Daredevil comes at a cost, oftentimes a significant one, oftentimes a mortal one for the people in Matt's life. And if we were going to push Matt over the line and have him a decision that would shatter his sense of morality, we knew it had to be caused by something as significant as that murder in the first episode.' 'Death comes with a loss of innocence and a feeling that you know the finality of not being able to go back. And it is devastating, but we determined behind the scenes, it's necessary for the story – as sad as it might be, as hard as it is to watch,' Winderbaum continues. Part of the reason the creative team behind Daredevil: Born Again knew they had to pull the trigger, so to speak, is because they already saw what would happen if they didn't start the show with such an emotionally impactful moment. In 2023, six episodes were filmed that didn't meet the standards that Daredevil had set over its three Netflix seasons, which led to stars Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio – who plays the villain Wilson Fisk – getting together with Marvel head Kevin Feige and the other key producers to figure out how they could fix things. They decided to scrap what they'd made entirely and start over – which led to Scardapane being brought in to take over the show. 'We wanted it to be connected to the Netflix show,' says D'Onofrio. 'And that comes with a darker tone and a whole a very different approach than what we were trying to do it at the beginning. We realised pretty early that we had to have strong conviction when it came to keeping the new show attached to the original.' While some reports have said that it was D'Onofrio and Cox alone that had identified the problems and asked Feige for the chance to start over, Cox is quick to correct the record. 'I think it's important to clarify that you know that the shift that was made midway through shooting was a collaborative decision,' says Cox. 'I applaud them for trying something different. And I applaud them for recognising early on that it wasn't quite working in the way that we hoped it would, and for having the courage and the foresight to make changes which can't have been easy and can't have been cheap. We feel very grateful to have to be working for a studio that will everything it takes to get it right.' While it may have been collaborative, the studio has the utmost respect for D'Onofrio and Cox, and throughout the series, Scardapane treated them as equal collaborators, leaning on them for important creative decisions. 'Charlie and Vincent are co-writers of this show – there's no two ways about that. And I say that as someone with a massive ego,' says Scardapane. 'When you have the two of these characters together, and it becomes something else. And they know that. They know that alchemy better than I do.' The most difficult part of the change was saying goodbye to Elden Henson. 'Eldon is a big part of the of the Daredevil family,' says Winderbaum. But Scardapane ensures that the event won't be forgotten any time soon – and will continue playing out for years to come. 'It wasn't done gratuitously, and it has a payoff that extends past this season into the second season. It's a very long throw,' says Scardapane. Daredevil: Born Again is now streaming on Disney+

Daredevil: Born Again may not even have hit our screens yet, but it's already looking positive for the show's second season. Filming has already begun and in a recent interview with Marvel's Head of TV Brad Winderbaum, it seems we could be getting it next year. Asked by Screen Rant if the hope is for the Marvel show to become an annual release, he said: "That is the plan. Season 2 will come out next year, and then hopefully season 3 and season infinity after that. I think this world is extremely rich, and there are many stories to be told on the streets of New York." Daredevil: Born Again was originally planned to have 18 episodes in total when it was first announced, but following a creative rehaul mid-shoot, this got split into two seasons. Currently, a third season hasn't been announced, but it seems Winderbaum is hopeful. He added: "It's certainly something very fundamental to Marvel, going back to the earliest days of publishing with Stan and Jack and Steve and the original Marvel bullpen. It's New York through New York, and the fact that we're able to shoot here and tell a story about New York made by New Yorkers is just fundamental to the series." The first season begins on March 4 on Disney Plus and brings back several of the main cast of the Netflix show. Among them are Vincent D'Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, and Jon Bernthal who will be joined by newcomers Arty Froushan, Clark Johnson, Michael Gandolfini, Ayelet Zurer, and Wilson Bethel. The series follows Matt Murdock as he's forced to confront his past as Daredevil when former crime boss Wilson Fisk begins his campaign to become the mayor of New York City. Marvel Hits Pause on "Nova," "Strange Academy," & "Terror, Inc." TV Series

Marvel Television has paused development on three projects: "Nova," "Strange Academy", and "Terror, Inc." Sources said that these projects were never officially greenlit, and may still come to fruition at some point. The studio has simply shifted its priorities at the moment. The decision is also reflective of a new model for producing television that's emerged at Marvel in recent years. Marvel initially approached series development in much the same way it handled features: a slate was announced, and what was teased was more or less what got made. A couple of years ago, senior leadership decided to retool the development process, as they were also revamping their new Daredevil series, Born Again. Marvel's new approach to TV development is more traditional, with many more projects being developed than will ultimately be made, and showrunners being brought in to oversee each. Shifting to a more typical greenlight process made sense, as the studio looked to maintain audience engagement amid new realities facing the industry. In addition to the prospect of superhero fatigue and content oversaturation, there was the reality of a market contraction, which led the studio to pull back significantly on the amount of projects released each year. Marvel has spoken publicly about the overhaul of its development strategy, as in a Screen Rant interview published last August with Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios' Head of TV, Streaming, and Animation. 'We're developing more than we make now, so we're actually have a few different things brewing that we might see through to at least a pilot script to see if we want to make it,' said Winderbaum. 'But, there's a lot of opportunity out there, it's hard to choose favorites… We're really being careful about what we choose to do next.' Originally, Marvel turned to Sabir Pirzada to pen an adaptation of "Nova", as we revealed in 2022. Boasting multiple aliases — the original and most famous being Richard Rider — Nova is a character created by Marv Wolfman and John Romita Sr., a cosmic-powered hero and last survivor of the intergalactic military and police force known as the Nova Corps, who wields the Nova Force to protect the universe. The character first appeared in Nova #1 in 1976. Marvel was active on the project as recently as this past December, announcing then that Criminal Minds alum Ed Bernero had been hired as the writer and showrunner for the series, replacing Pirzada. If Nova was the most concrete of the three projects put on pause, "Strange Academy", and "Terror, Inc." were also rumored for some time to be in development as a series for Disney+. "Strange Academy" would have been an adaptation of the eponymous comic book series, created by Skottie Young and artist Humberto Ramos, which debuted in March 2020. Set in New Orleans, it centers on a school founded by Doctor Strange to educate young individuals with magical abilities. The show was expected to focus on Wong, portrayed by Benedict Wong, and his leadership of the school. Amy Rardin, who wrote on Echo, was working on the show. Launched in 1992, the comic book series "Terror, Inc." centers on an antihero by the name of Terror, who possesses the ability to incorporate the body parts of others into his form, gaining their memories and abilities. Created by Dan Chichester, Margaret Clark, and Klaus Janson, the character first appeared under the name Shreck in St. George #2 in August 1988 before being reintroduced as Terror in the 1992 series. No word on who was involved with development. Up next for Marvel Television is "Daredevil: Born Again" on March 4. Elsewhere, live-action series coming up for release this year include "Ironheart", on June 24, and "Wonder Man", which is expected to debut this December. On the film side, the studio launched "Captain America: Brave New World" on Valentine's Day and has so far seen the film pull in over $204M globally. "Thunderbolts" is next up on May 2, with "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" following on July 25.

"Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" Renewed for Season 2 and 3

Yara Sameh Disney has great faith in the latest Disney+ Marvel series, the animated outing "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" has been renewed for season 2 and season 3. Set to release on January 29, the show follows a parallel timeline where Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, is mentored by Norman Osborn, the alter-ego of his archenemy the Green Goblin, instead of Tony Stark like in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cast members include Hudson Thames as the titular web-slinger, Colman Domingo as Osborn, Kari Wahlgren as Aunt May, and Hugh Dancy as Doctor Octopus. Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio will reprise their roles from the 'Daredevil' Netflix series, and Paul F. Tompkins will take on the role of classic Marvel Comics villain The Wizard. The news was shared by Marvel's Television and Streaming head Brad Winderbaum in a recent The Movie Podcast just days before the debut of the series. Winderbaum connected virtually with the podcast and disclosed he was 'head over heels in love with these characters' from the animated series. He shared details regarding Season 2 of "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" and added, 'I've now read all the scripts for Season 2, we're halfway through the animatics. What Jeff (Jeff Trammell) is building brick by brick in this show starts to pay off.' The series, which was previously named "Spider-Man: Freshman Year", was renewed for Season 2 in 2022. He further discussed his connection with the characters of the show and asserted that it 'gets deeper and deeper in subsequent seasons.' Additionally, Winderbaum revealed the surprise news that "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" is already greenlit to return for a third season. Winderbaum said, 'We're also greenlit for through Season 3, and in a couple weeks, I'm gonna hear his pitch for the third season of the show, and I'm like a fan, I can't wait.' Spider-Man has been a major earner for Marvel ever since Tom Holland took over the part in 2016 with the release of 'Captain America: Civil War.' Holland has played the web-slinging hero five times since. His latest film, 'Spider-Man: No Way Home,' released in 2021, went on to become the seventh highest-grossing movie of all time. Before Spider-Man joined the MCU, the franchise was first helmed by Sam Raimi for Sony Pictures. The pairing would produce three movies in 2002, 2004, and 2007 starring Toby Maguire. Sony would then reboot the series in 2012 with Andrew Garfield, and all three Spideys had a memorable reunion in 'No Way Home.' The team helming this new take on 'Spider-Man' includes Jeff Trammell as head writer and Mel Zwyer as supervising director. Brad Winderbaum, Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt and Trammell serve as executive producers. "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" will hit Disney+ with its first two episodes on January 29.
