First elected female mayor in Winooski to resign effective September 15: What happens now?
Winooski Mayor Kristine Lott announced her resignation, effective Sept. 15. Lott has served as mayor since 2019 when she became the first elected female mayor in the city's history.
Lott announced her decision Aug. 19 in a letter on the Winooski government website. She attributed her decision to "embarking on a significant and joyous new chapter," as she expects her first child and a career transition.
"While I'll always care deeply about public service and what comes next for this incredible community I call home, it is the right decision to focus my priorities and energy on family, career and personal life," Lott wrote.
Deputy Mayor Thomas Renner will serve as interim mayor until someone is elected during the 2026 Town Meeting Day election.

Lott said she's proud of her accomplishments during her seven years in office. She cites careful financial management helping to improve economic vitality, investing in municipal infrastructure projects, Winooski's highest per capita housing production in Chittenden County and fostering an inclusive community.
