Award winning Powys food producers at Royal Welsh Show
This year's food hall at the Royal Welsh Show has showcased some of the tastiest offerings the county has to offer. New to the show was the multi award-winning Trefaldwyn Cheese, whose blue cheese is considered one of the best in the world. Owner Glenn Lloyd said: 'We have launched Ruby Red which is soft cow's milk brie. It seems to be going down really, really well. We have our full range here today. 'This is our first time. We did the Winter Fair in the autumn. We had so much success, we sold out, so we thought we would give the summer show a go.' There was a newcomer from Brecon with 2Greedy run by Eliot Lawrence, who just finished his job as a chef to pursue his own business in gluten free baking. 'I was working as a chef and the Royal Welsh was the opportunity I had to have that kick up the backside to take it full time,' said Eliot. 'It's all done at home in a little village called Cradoc just outside Brecon. Everything is baked without gluten.' Fellow Brecon baker Zoe Parry who runs Zoe Bakes was attending her second Royal Welsh Show and sells her delicious Rocky road and caramel brownies in Brecon and Hay on Wye. 'It was really good last time,' said Zoe. 'I bake at home and I do Hay market each week, I have a little baby at home so I now make and my mum sells.' Welshpool's Trailhead Get Jerky who were debuting their new salted beef alongside their traditional jerky products. Trailhead's Emma Morris said: 'It is made of Welsh PGI beef it is made through a curing process and salt beef is quite a traditional product we are offering that as cooked, sliced and packed versions. 'People are using that for sandwiches and bagels. Chefs are using it for canapes, that is the one we are focusing on for the Royal Welsh this year.' David Morris at Welsh Farmhouse Apple Juice in Crickhowell is celebrating after getting the royal seal of approval - 'The Royal Warrant was reissued by the King in the year just gone,' said David. 'We make 30 different types of apple juice. We don't add any type of sugar we only add vitamin C and it is all organic. 'I was hoping to have some of our new pear but it has been very, very popular so we are a victim of our own success on that one.'

Popular Show and Shine sound-off ups the volume at Winter Fair
Popular Show and Shine sound-off ups the volume at Winter Fair Showtime Magazine South Africa hosted the popular Show & Shine Winter Fair 2025 Autofest at the KwaDukuza municipal grounds last weekend. Thousands of car enthusiasts crowded onto the top field to listen to the loudest cars in the province battle it out in Saturday's Winter Fair Sound Off. The motoring show was in aid of raising much-needed funds for the KwaDukuza Child Welfare charity, who host the annual Winter Fair. Sound testing was handled by Street Customs from Umkomaas to eliminate any claims of favouritism or cheating by local judges, a concern raised in past events. Such was the competition, the sound-off ran until 1.30am. Team A Tec and Ashbarn Trucking brought the noise, beating out more than 100 contestants to claim the coveted 'Showstopper' awards. The red stock-driving Mini of Rafiq Adam (Team A Tec) registered a massive 170.8 decibels (dB) in the 'Advanced' class category. Rafiq, from Stanger, used two 12K Sound Digital amplifiers and two 15-inch FOR-X woofers to blow away the competition. The 'Ultimate Car Showstopper' was a green Mini belonging to Ashbarn Trucking, which posted 171 dB in the 'Ultimate' category. Ashbarn used four 15-inch Vibe woofers and a Terminator 20K amplifier to take home the trophy. On Sunday, Showtime Magazine founder Gerrie Welgemoed judged the 'Show and Shine Showstopper' competition. Welgemoed, who travelled from Johannesburg to do the judging, said more than 150 cars arrived for the competition but only 70 made the entry cut-off time. Stanger's Denver Simathari successfully defended his 2024 title with his custom-designed 1995 red Ford Bantam. 'This bakkie had a lot of work done,' said Welgemoed. 'It was super clean – you could eat off the engine bay.' Yatish Narothum took home both the Glow in the Dark and Best Home Build Boot Setup awards with his fluorescent VW Golf 1 he built with his dad Yathin. 'My son and I have been working on this car for five years, but we still have a lot of work to do,' said Yathin. Aberglasney Gardens donates Santa visit fees to Noah's Ark
The funds were raised during the gardens' Winter Fair events, where a fee was charged to visit Santa. Eleanor Keatley, chairman of Aberglasney's board of trustees, handed over the cheque. She said: "As a charity ourselves, we know the importance of donations. "We are delighted to be able to hand over a cheque for £1,634 to Noah's Ark Children's Hospital. "A small fee was asked of those that wanted to visit Santa at our recent Winter Fair events, and as requested by Santa, we were pleased to donate the proceeds to this life-saving charity." The Noah's Ark charity funds new and innovative medical equipment and facilities to improve treatment and outcomes for children. It also provides emotional support services and a play specialist team to support children and families. Nia Parfitt-Jones, Noah's Ark ambassador and former tearooms manager at Aberglasney, said: "Noah's Ark are very grateful to Aberglasney Gardens for agreeing to donate the proceeds raised from children visiting Santa in his grotto at recent Winter Fair events. "At the Noah's Ark Children's Hospital Charity, children and families are at the heart of everything they do. "As a charity that relies entirely on donations, the work at the hospital is all made possible thanks to generous donations like this one." The charity also invests in technology to train future clinicians and strives to make the hospital a less frightening place for children by adding elements of fun and happiness to hospital days.
