Mercy, Community Blood Center partner for emergency blood drive
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Mercy Hospital Springfield and Community Blood Center of the Ozarks (CBCO) are teaming up for an emergency blood drive to help replenish supplies diminished by winter weather.
According to a press release from CBCO, winter weather has canceled local blood drives and closed donor centers, straining local blood supply.
Today's emergency blood drive will be in the Catherine McAuley Conference Room at Mercy from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Winter storm impacting local shelters
'We are mostly in need of O-negative, A-negative, and O-positive blood types. This weather and extreme temperatures have hindered donations and that has negatively affected our local blood supply. The need for blood never stops, regardless of weather conditions, holidays, or other challenges,' said Michelle Teter, Media Relations Representative for CBCO. 'We're calling on our Winter Weather Warriors to donate if they can travel safely. If you can make it to Mercy Hospital, a blood drive in your area, or a donor center, your donation will help ensure a steady supply for local patients in need.'
Both Mercy and CoxHealth are hosting regularly scheduled blood drives that are open to the public tomorrow, Feb. 20, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. All donors will receive a limited-edition CBCO hoodie.
Walk-ins are welcome, but donors can schedule an appointment at Updates on donor center hours and canceled drives are also available on the website.
