Katy Perry survives scary concert moment in San Francisco: 'Not today, Satan'

A scary moment occurred late in Katy Perry's sold-out concert at Chase Center in San Francisco on July 18. Photos: Reuters A scary moment occurred late in Katy Perry's sold-out concert at Chase Center in San Francisco on Friday (July 18). It happened during one of the Perry's (roughly) 278,433 aerial/high-rise sequences in the show, as the superstar boarded a giant black mechanical butterfly and soared off high above the crowd during the anthem Roar . Suddenly, the butterfly lurched downward, as if one of its cables holding it aloft had come loose, drawing gasps from KatyCats (aka, Perry's fans) as it appeared that the superstar could fall or otherwise be in danger. Fortunately, the vocalist was OK and would finish her ride on the none-too-steady butterfly back to the stage. Disembarking from the creature, Perry would utter a memorable response to the mishap – one that fans would immediately begin quoting. 'Not today, Satan,' said the singer, who started off her career in Christian music before going on to find massive fame in the mainstream pop world. The dicey butterfly ride was the exclamation point on what had been a technically challenged show – so challenged, in fact, that it almost didn't happen. Organisers didn't open the doors on time, leaving many KatyCats – dressed in their glittery best – outside while crews worked on the problems with the elaborate set. It was only moments before opener Rebecca Black took the stage that it was even decided that there would be a concert on Friday. Yet, Perry wasn't about to disappoint her Bay Area fans. 'I was like, 'No we are doing the show,' she told the crowd. 'This is my biggest show in America, so thank you San Francisco!' She'd thank fans by putting her all into this stop on her Lifetimes Tour, her fifth trek overall and first road show since 2017-18's Witness: The Tour. Since Bay Area KatyCats last saw her at SAP Center, Perry had a child, spent several seasons as a judge on American Idol , released two albums that hardly lit up the charts and, yet, somehow still managed to grow her fan base to include KatyCats who weren't even born when the singer landed her last top 10 pop single. She also broke up with her longtime beau Orlando Bloom and, oh yeah, went on a controversial space flight with Lauren Sanchez and Gayle King aboard Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin rocket. Having gone seven years between tours, Perry is making up for lost time by throwing everything she can at fans – which, as it turns out, is way too much – on this current trek in support of her seventh studio album, last year's mildly entertaining 143 . – The Mercury News/Tribune News Service

Tickets to the upcoming Vancouver concert, which is set to start at 7 p.m., are available at . Here's what you need to know about the concert : The Lifetimes tour is the artist's fifth global road show. It began in Mexico City on April 23 and winds down in Abu Dhabi on Dec. 7. The tour is in support of her seventh album, titled 143, which was released on Sept. 20. The album was the worst-reviewed of her career, with Pitchfork calling it ' a spectacular flop' and noting its falloff from the charts in less than two weeks after release was a ' total disaster .' With 24 songs spanning her career and a Choose Your Own Adventure segment, where audience members choose two songs for her to perform via scanning a QR code during the concert, the show is clocking in at just under two hours. Her hit I Kissed a Girl is the most-performed tune on the tour, with Teenage Dream, California Girls, E.T. and Roar all in the Top 10 most played hits. Perry has been drawing big buzz online lately for her off-stage activities more than her music. Mainly, her trip to outer space. On April 14, Perry ventured into space as one of the passengers on the Blue Origin NS-31 launch. The 11 minute-long sub-orbital spaceflight was part of the Blue Origin's New Shepard space tourism program. Organized by Lauren Sánchez, wife of Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos, the trip received considerable media attention for being the first all-female spaceflight since Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman in space with her 1963 solo flight on Vostok 6. Among other celebrity guests on the spaceship was American TV personality and host Gayle King, Sánchez, and American entrepreneur and activist Amanda Nguyen. During the flight, Perry sang Louis Armstrong's classic What a Wonderful World to her fellow passengers. The trip was derided in many circles, including being dubbed ' a dumb waste of money' by The Guardian columnist Zoe Williams, who wondered if there were more obvious astronaut-ready women who could have taken the trip. Online criticism levelled at the singer was so severe that Perry described the experience in a comment to a fan account as being turned into a ' human piñata.' Perry's breakup with longtime partner and former fiancé Orlando Bloom has also been a source of online discussion. The couple confirmed their breakup on July 3. As for her latest music efforts, Perry's new album hasn't proven popular. But reviews of the Lifetimes Tour are more favourable. The Sydney Morning Herald gave the show a four-star review noting, 'she can still put on an electric show.' Rebecca Black , the YouTuber whose 2011 single Friday went viral when she was only 13, is slated to open tour dates for Perry. Like Perry, Black was in her teens when her career took off. Her 2023 debut album Let Her Burn was well-received as was her debut tour. Her latest album, titled Salvation, was released on Feb. 27 and has yielded up a trio of singles: Trust, Sugar Water Cyanide and Salvation. With its convenient location near the Stadium/Chinatown SkyTrain station, Rogers Arena is one of the easiest access major concert venues in Vancouver. (Video) Katy Perry Nearly Falls From Mid-Air After Prop Malfunction During 'Lifetimes Tour'

More and more cases of stage malfunctions that could have gone horribly wrong have been coming up recently. Whether it be the stage falling under performers or props hanging onto the ceiling by a thread, the stage is unpredictable. One recent case happened on 18th July (Friday) during Katy Perry's 'Lifetimes Tour' in San Francisco. This spectacular tour is the icon's first full-scale tour since her 'Witness: The Tour' back in 2018. Not only was this a night many KatyCats (Katy Perry's fans) had been waiting for, but it was also a celebration of her entire musical journey. However, the night didn't go exactly as planned, and what started as excitement soon turned into concern. The pop superstar had been sitting atop a butterfly prop, circling the crowd while performing her 2013 anthem 'Roar,' when things took a turn. Whilst performing, Katy suddenly jerked forward as the wires attached to the prop came loose, causing it to drop slightly. Thankfully, the singer had been holding on tightly and was leaning to one side of the butterfly. That quick instinct helped her stay on and avoid what could have been a serious fall. Despite the scare, she bounced back almost immediately and carried on with the show as if nothing had happened. The mother-of-one kept her energy high, smoothly transitioning into the next song without missing a beat. The crowd responded with cheers, showing their support and admiration. Her quick recovery reminded everyone why she's still one of pop's most reliable performers. Even in a tense moment, she delivered exactly what fans came for. While the mishap was a scary accident, it wasn't the first time Katy Perry used the butterfly prop. Back on the 23rd April (Wednesday), during her stop in Mexico City, she performed 'Roar' atop the same butterfly as the final song of the night. The prop had been a striking centrepiece, adding a magical touch to the performance and thrilling fans. Whether it was a rigging error at the venue or just a simple accident, the malfunction posed serious safety risks. Not only was Katy Perry in danger, but fans below could have also been harmed if the prop had fallen. This incident raises important questions about the safety measures in place for large-scale shows and highlights the need for stricter checks to protect both performers and audiences. I'm so glad she is okay omg 🥺 such a good concert though! Will post more later! ♬ original sound – Tiffany Sources: Eonline, Tiktok Zaima Humaria contributed to this article

Katy Perry reveals her 2025 tour will feature deep cuts, 'special section' that changes

Katy Perry reveals her 2025 tour will feature deep cuts, 'special section' that changes Show Caption Hide Caption Katy Perry is 'excited' to bring her daughter on 2025 Lifetimes Tour Katy Perry sits down with USA TODAY reporter KiMi Robinson to talk her world tour and why she is excited to bring her young daughter along. BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — A few things have changed in Katy Perry's life since she was last on tour. It's been seven years since Witness: The Tour, and the multi-hyphenate now has a 4-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom. She's retired from her judging post on 'American Idol.' She's added a critically acclaimed Las Vegas residency to her résumé. But one thing remains the same about the chart-topping pop star as she heads into her global Lifetimes Tour, for which she announced the U.S. dates on Monday: Her famously over-the-top concerts will still be like 'Disneyland on wheels.' Among the details she's willing to share during a recent sit-down with USA TODAY about her upcoming tour is this: It's going to be a 'dance party.' Perhaps a more surprising nugget for fans is that Perry is looking for 'feedback' to influence her setlist, which will 'change and alternate' and sometimes include some 'deep cuts' from her discography. 'When I made the record (last year's '143'), it was a celebration of becoming a mother and all the love and the cliches that are true with it. All that unconditional love I never felt,' Perry tells USA TODAY. 'It is a freeing, dance-heavy … celebratory record. And that is exactly what the tour will be.' What songs will be on Katy Perry's Lifetimes Tour setlist? After kicking off April 16 in Austin, Texas, Perry will travel to Mexico, return to the U.S. in May, cross the globe to perform in Australia, come home to her West Coast 'California Gurls' in July before singing across Canada, then do a stint of shows in the U.S. before going to South America and Europe. In total, she has 40 shows and counting on the 2025 Lifetimes Tour. And though it's in support of her most recent album, Perry knows exactly what fans around the world want to see her perform: the chart-topping hits that have made her one of the best-selling musicians of all time. 'Lifetimes is going to incorporate the journey that I've been on for over 17 years and celebrate it,' she says. "I'll be singing a hybrid of songs; I feel a total responsibility to my audience to give them that sing-along feeling. But I will be introducing them to a few new ones, which I'm really excited about,' Perry says, promising fans performances of "California Gurls," "Dark Horse," "Firework," and "Roar." These bops will make for what she promises will be 'a real fun dance party,' but the mom also wants fans to keep safety in mind: 'Please wear sensible shoes and stay hydrated,' she says. From '143,' Perry plans to perform her collaboration with Doechii, 'I'm His, He's Mine,' 'All the Love' and, of course, the tour namesake dance club single 'Lifetimes.' But Perry is allowing some flexibility with the setlist: 'I am open to submissions. I might be doing a poll on social media,' she teases. Katy Perry promises to perform some 'deep cuts' live for the first time Perry revealed there's a 'special section that we've carved out of the show that will change and alternate, and it will need feedback from fans.' With the moving pieces in this 'fan-tailored' portion of the show, Perry admits, 'I'll have to be prepared, and I use a prompter.' With so many songs in her discography it seems nothing will be off-limits. 'There will be some deep cuts that have never been played. So if you're a true fan and you want to hear those deep cuts, those B sides, there's going to be that moment, and it's all in their hands,' she says. 'Yeah, some songs that have never seen the light of day live, we'll finally have the opportunity (to play), which I'm really excited about because the real fans are going to be like, 'Oh my God, this is it.'' Katy Perry is excited to tour the world with her 4-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove This year, Perry will add a new member to her touring crew: Daisy, her daughter with partner Orlando Bloom. Fans last saw Daisy make a brief cameo in 2023 during the last show of Perry's 'Play' residency in Las Vegas. 'She is so curious, and she's such an extrovert. And she loves seeing mommy happy. She loves seeing the shows,' Perry says. 'I'm excited that I get to bring her around the world on my first world tour with her.' She compares sharing music with her 4 year old to the feeling of celebrating Christmas with a child: 'Everything's just brighter again. Everything tastes better, everything looks better, everything's more fun because you see it through the eyes of a child.' With Daisy, whom she previously credited for influencing the visual spectacle that was her Vegas residency, Perry says 'a lot more play gets injected into (the show), and it's not that serious.' While traveling the globe, Perry will not only be responsible for entertaining arenas full of fans but also her preschool-aged daughter. 'I want submissions for where I should take her on days off,' she says, listing parks, children's museums and water parks as places she's seeking in each city. 'I'm going to show her the world,' Perry says.
