Venus Williams Announces Her Engagement to Andrea Preti

THE RUNDOWN: Venus Williams has a lot to celebrate. On July 22, 2025, the tennis star defeated 23-year-old Peyton Stearns in a singles match on the Women's Tennis Association Tour, making her the oldest player to secure the victory since Martina Navratilova in 2004, who was 47 at the time. Williams, 45, also announced her engagement to Andrea Preti. The couple has kept their relationship relatively private until now. In a post-match interview, she was referred to as an 'engaged woman' and asked about how Andrea has made a difference in her life. 'Yes, my fiancé is here,' she responded amid applause from the crowd. 'He really encouraged me to keep playing. There were so many times where I just wanted to coast and kind of chill... He encouraged me to get through this, and it's wonderful to be here. He's never seen me play.' When the interviewer said, 'Wow, I'd say he's a good luck charm,' Williams agreed. Ahead, get to know her fiancé, Andrea Preti. Preti, 37, was born on June 6, 1988, in Denmark and raised in Italy. While in Italy, he fell in love with fashion and became a model. Later, he moved to New York and studied acting at the Susan Batson Studio. Notable alumni of the NYC academy include Nicole Kidman, Juliette Binoche, and Laverne Cox. Since then, he's appeared in productions like One More Day (which he wrote, directed, and starred in), the Italian series Un Professore, and, most recently, 2023's Temptation. In July 2024, the couple was photographed for the first time while they were on vacation in Nerano, Italy. And in February, they sparked engagement rumors when Williams was spotted wearing an engagement ring during a training session in Rome. They've only made one major public appearance together. This year, they attended the Dsquared2 fall/winter 2025 show during Milan Fashion Week. Preti was previously in a relationship with the 26-year-old Italian tennis player, Susanna Giovanardi. Last April, they attended the Challengers premiere in Rome.

French tennis player Lois Boisson laughs off opponent Harriet Dart's "she smells really bad" comment

British tennis player Harriet Dart has apologized to France's Lois Boisson after asking the chair umpire to tell her opponent to put on deodorant because she "smells really bad." Dart lost 6-0, 6-3 to Boisson in the first round of the clay-court Rouen Open, part of the Women's Tennis Association Tour, on Tuesday. She was picked up by a microphone during a changeover telling the umpire: "Can you tell her (Boisson) to wear deodorant? ... Because she smells really bad." Video posted by a tennis fan on social media showed Boisson walking past Dart who was sitting courtside next to the umpire. Dart then suddenly got out of her seat and made the comment as she walked across to the other side of the court. After the footage spread online, Dart posted an apology on her Instagram story, which disappears 24 hours after it's posted, and said "it was a heat-of-the-moment comment that I truly regret." "That's not how I want to carry myself, and I take full responsibility," she wrote. "I have a lot of respect for Lois and how she competed today. I'll learn from this and move forward." Boisson, who made her first WTA Tour appearance of the season and is working her way back up from 303rd in the rankings after injuries, gave a light-hearted response. She posted a photo on Instagram of her on the court with a Dove deodorant stick edited into the frame above her hand and wrote "@dove apparently need a collab." Dove on Wednesday reposted Boisson's Instagram story with a comment: "Smells like confidence." Boisson then reshared the image with two laughing emojis. Before her injuries, Boisson produced a "breakthrough performance" in 2024 to win the WTA 125 Saint Malo and won 18 consecutive matches in the International Tennis Federation, according to the WTA.
