Pakistan Star's Startling Remark On Playing World Cup In India After Pahalgam Terrorist Attack: "We Are Not..."

After the Pahalgam terrorist attack, that killed 26 civilians on April 22, reactions have been strong from all quarters. Terrorists from a Lashkar-e-Taiba offshoot opened fire on a group of unsuspecting tourists in the scenic meadows of Baisaran in Pahalgam, resulting in one of the worst face-offs with Pakistan. The effect of the incident is being felt on the cricket field too. There have been speculation that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) might write to the ICC, so that India and Pakistan are not clubbed in the same group in future global events (like World Cup and the Champions Trophy). A report in Cricbuzz, however, countered the claim. No major men's ICC event is scheduled this year. The 2025 Women's ODI World Cup will be played in India in September-October. Pakistan have qualified for the mega event and as per earlier agreements, it will play its games at a neutral venue. In the midst of this, Pakistan women's cricket team opener Gull Feroza, who was part of the side that played in the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier, has made a startling remark. "We know this much that we will play in Asian conditions and we are not playing in India. This is clear. Neither are we interested in playing in India,' she told a PakPassion. "So, wherever it is played - hopefully in Sri Lanka or Dubai - those conditions are similar to the ones you get in Asia. The Qualifiers were at home, and the staff prepared tracks accordingly. Wherever the World Cup games are played, the conditions will be similar to those we have at home. So, our preparation will be according to that, and we are ready for that." The BCCI has also made it absolutely clear that they will follow the government's guidelines regarding playing cricket with India. "We are with the victims and we condemn it. Whatever our government will say, we will do. We don't play with Pakistan in bilateral series because of the government stand. And we will not play with Pakistan in bilaterals going forward. But when it comes to ICC event we play due to ICC engagement. ICC is also aware whatever is happening they will to it (sic)," Rajeev Shukla, BCCI vice-president, told Sports Tak. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirms Pakistan team won't travel to India for ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025

Lahore : Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has confirmed Pakistan women's team won't travel to India for the ICC Women's ODI World Cup, set to be held later this year. Naqvi confirmed that Pakistan will play its matches at a neutral venue following the acceptance of the hybrid model agreement earlier this year. The PCB chairman confirmed that, as India is the host, they will decide on the neutral venue, and the Pakistan women's team will travel to that location to play their matches. "Everything will happen according to the agreement. India will decide where the match will happen because they are the hosts. Wherever they decide, our team will go and play there. But the Pakistan team won't travel to India. Since there is an agreement, it has to be adhered to," Naqvi told reporters at LCCA Ground after the Pakistan vs Bangladesh ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier match. Due to strained political relations between the two nations, India has not toured Pakistan since 2008, when they participated in the Asia Cup. The two arch-rivals last played a bilateral series in 2012-13 in India, which consisted of white-ball matches. After that, India and Pakistan have primarily faced each other in ICC tournaments and the Asia Cups. In February, Pakistan hosted the Champions Trophy, but India refused to cross the border due to the geopolitical situation between the two countries. As a result, the International Cricket Council (ICC) finally resolved the issue of hosting rights for the Champions Trophy 2025, by deciding that the event will be played in Pakistan, along with another neutral venue. Additionally, it was confirmed that the hybrid model will be adopted for all ICC events in the 2024-27 cycle, which will be held in India or Pakistan. Pakistan's women's team booked its berth in the marquee event by staying unbeaten in the ICC Women's ODI World Cup Qualifiers. Pakistan hosted the qualifiers and won all five matches, thereby securing a spot in the World Cup. Bangladesh became the second team to qualify for the tournament, ending the hopes of Ireland, Scotland, the West Indies, and Thailand of featuring in the tournament. India (hosts), England, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, and Sri Lanka had already qualified for the tournament, which will run from September 26 to November 2.

Pakistan women's cricket team will not travel to India for World Cup: PCB chief

The Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the country's Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, has made it clear that Pakistan's women's cricket team will not travel to India for the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup to be held later in the year. The statement comes after Pakistan secured its position in the ICC Women's World Cup 2025 on Friday after beating Thailand in the Women's World Cup Qualifier by 87 runs. Naqvi said he was happy for the women's cricket team for qualifying for the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, but added that the team will not travel to India. "Pakistan team will not travel to India for the World Cup. It is now for India to decide where they will host our matches. Other than India, wherever the matches are hosted, our team will play. But not in India," he said. India will host the 2025 ICC Women's Cricket World Cup in September, featuring eight teams, including six already qualified ones. Matches will occur across five cities, with the final in Mullanpur, near Chandigarh. When asked about why the team cannot travel to India for the World Cup, he said: "This is part of the agreement and the hybrid model. And India will have to abide by it, the way we did during the Champions Trophy," he added. It is pertinent to note that India is the host nation for the ICC Women's World Cup 2025. However, Pakistan's matches will not be played in India. The decision stems from a mutual agreement signed and consented to between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) before the Champions Trophy 2025. At that time, India refused to travel to Pakistan to play their matches. Despite the protest by Pakistan with the ICC (International Cricket Council), it was mutually agreed that neutral venues would be arranged to facilitate cricket matches of the Indian cricket team, given the condition that while PCB accepts the hybrid model, it would also be applicable for matches in India. During the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the Indian cricket team played its matches in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).It is also pertinent to note that cricket matches between India and Pakistan have been subjected to approvals from their respective governments for years due to the ongoing political tensions.
