Seven-month-old baby dies at nursery
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have launched a probe into alleged negligence over the death of a seven-month-old baby boy at a childcare centre.
The infant was in the care of a nursery at the time of the incident.
Wangsa Maju Deputy police chief Superintendent Syahrul Anuar Abdul Wahab said the incident happened between 9am and 11am on Monday.
"We received a police report from the baby's father on the day of the incident," he said.
The tragedy is believed to have occurred at a crèche located in Taman Danau Kota, he said in a brief statement today.
He said an investigation paper has been opened under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001 for abuse, neglect, abandonment, or exposure of children.
Those convicted may face a fine not exceeding RM20,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years, or both.
"The Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department's Sexual, Women and Child Investigation Unit (D11) is currently investigating the case," he said.
