Razman hopes Perak exco man not given ‘immunity' in caricature probe
Perak opposition leader Razman Zakaria (left) has demanded that DAP's Woo Kah Leong apologise over a caricature post deemed offensive. PETALING JAYA : Perak opposition leader Razman Zakaria has urged authorities not to grant any 'immunity' to state executive councillor Woo Kah Leong, who is under police investigation over a social media post featuring an allegedly offensive caricature of him. The Gunong Semanggol assemblyman said he had demanded an apology from Woo, but that none was forthcoming. Instead, he said DAP continued to defend its youth chief's actions. He warned that any failure to act could erode public support for the state government led by Umno and Pakatan Harapan (PH). 'To the Umno-led state government leaders in Perak, like it or not, this is the quality of an exco member from DAP,' he said in a statement. 'If you have any honour, just resign from the exco post because the people are always watching and will judge what happens as a result of such irresponsible behaviour. 'It's not impossible that the people will reject you over this issue.' Police recorded Woo's statement yesterday in connection with the investigation into the allegedly provocative social media post. Woo had posted the caricature on Facebook alongside a statement in April. It depicted Razman as a clown riding a unicycle on a tightrope, labelling the Perak PAS chief as 'raja fitnah' ('the king of slander'). This was believed to be in reference to the various instances in which Razman had apologised to PH leaders over various accusations he had made against them. The PAS man has demanded that Woo apologise openly for the 'provocative' posting. However, Woo has stood by his Facebook post, saying it was not a personal attack but satire. He also said the police report stifled freedom of speech.

Cops seize Perak exco man's phone over caricature of PAS leader
DAP Youth chief Woo Kah Leong is being investigated for improper use of network facilities and criminal defamation. (Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : A Perak executive councillor's phone and SIM card have been confiscated by police in connection with a probe into an allegedly offensive caricature of state opposition leader Razman Zakaria of PAS. DAP Youth chief Woo Kah Leong is being investigated for improper use of network facilities under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and criminal defamation under Section 500 of the Penal Code, according to his lawyer, Syahredzan Johan. Syahredzan said the police report was likely made by one of Razman's aides in Gerik. 'Woo has given his statement to the police and we will give our fullest cooperation,' he told FMT. Woo had posted the caricature on Facebook alongside a statement in April. It depicted Razman as a clown riding a unicycle on a tightrope, while labelling the Perak PAS chief as 'raja fitnah' ('king of slander'). This is believed to be in reference to the various instances Razman had apologised to multiple Pakatan Harapan leaders over various accusations he made against them. The PAS man has since demanded that Woo apologise openly for the 'provocative' posting. In a statement, Woo stood by his Facebook post by saying it was not a personal attack but satire. He also said the police report stifled freedom of speech. Woo, the Perak domestic trade executive councillor, said it was his duty to challenge false rhetoric, even through satire. 'Freedom of expression must include the freedom to offend. Satire is a legitimate and peaceful form of political critique in any democracy,' said the Pasir Bedamar assemblyman.

DAP fanning racial sentiments? Look in the mirror, Sanusi told
DAP Youth chief Woo Kah Leong said PAS has no right to accuse others of playing up racial issues. (Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : DAP Youth has hit back at claims the party has been fanning racial sentiments, as alleged by PAS's Sanusi Nor, citing the many controversial statements by leaders from the Islamic party. The wing's chief, Woo Kah Leong, alluded to claims by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang that non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras were at the root of corruption. Woo also referred to claims by PAS MP Siti Mastura Muhammad, who had to pay damages of more than RM800,000 after she was convicted of defaming three DAP leaders by linking them to the late Communist Party of Malaya leader Chin Peng in her election speeches. He also alluded to claims by PAS that Malaysians were waving China's flag despite the police confirming that only Chinese nationals were involved. 'As experts in fanning racial issues, PAS has no right to accuse others of doing so,' he said in a statement. Last night, Sanusi, the Perikatan Nasional election director, accused DAP of fanning racial sentiments when denying that his party PAS and Bersatu had done so. 'DAP is a dangerous party. It is chauvinistic and racist. Despite the image they try to portray, history has shown that since DAP was established, temperatures have risen,' he was quoted as saying at a ceramah in Bidor, Perak.
