Cops seize Perak exco man's phone over caricature of PAS leader

PETALING JAYA : A Perak executive councillor's phone and SIM card have been confiscated by police in connection with a probe into an allegedly offensive caricature of state opposition leader Razman Zakaria of PAS.
DAP Youth chief Woo Kah Leong is being investigated for improper use of network facilities under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and criminal defamation under Section 500 of the Penal Code, according to his lawyer, Syahredzan Johan.
Syahredzan said the police report was likely made by one of Razman's aides in Gerik.
'Woo has given his statement to the police and we will give our fullest cooperation,' he told FMT.
Woo had posted the caricature on Facebook alongside a statement in April. It depicted Razman as a clown riding a unicycle on a tightrope, while labelling the Perak PAS chief as 'raja fitnah' ('king of slander').
This is believed to be in reference to the various instances Razman had apologised to multiple Pakatan Harapan leaders over various accusations he made against them.
The PAS man has since demanded that Woo apologise openly for the 'provocative' posting.
In a statement, Woo stood by his Facebook post by saying it was not a personal attack but satire. He also said the police report stifled freedom of speech.
Woo, the Perak domestic trade executive councillor, said it was his duty to challenge false rhetoric, even through satire.
'Freedom of expression must include the freedom to offend. Satire is a legitimate and peaceful form of political critique in any democracy,' said the Pasir Bedamar assemblyman.

Suspected foreign national found dead at Bangsar construction site; identity yet to be confirmed
KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 — The body of a man, suspected to be a foreign national, was discovered at a construction site in Bangsar this afternoon. Brickfields district police chief ACP Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood told Bernama that the identity of the man has not been confirmed, and investigations are ongoing. 'It has not been established whether the body belongs to the British national who was recently reported missing,' he said when contacted by the news agency. 'Investigations are still underway, and the fire and rescue personnel are currently working to retrieve the body,' he added. According to reports, the body was found near the lift shaft on the lower level of a construction site. Earlier media reports stated that a 25-year-old British man was reported missing after he was last seen near the Bangsar area on May 27. His family raised the alarm when they were unable to reach him by phone and noticed his social media accounts had become inactive.

PLKN 3.0: NS trainees fired up over rare chance to shoot real M16 rifles with live ammunition
KUANTAN, June 4 — A total of 123 trainees in the National Service Training Programme (PLKN) 3.0 Series 2/2025 were seen to be excited with the opportunity to undergo a shooting exercise with real guns like the M16 at the Naval Region Headquarters (MAWILLA) 1 Target Range in Tanjung Gelang here today. National Service Training Department (JLKN) Training Operations Division director, Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Colonel Mazlizan Shaikh Osman said the number was part of the 257 male trainees who participated in the 45-day programme at the 505th Territorial Army Regiment Camp in Pekan. 'We are holding two shooting sessions, today with the Alpha and Bravo companies and tomorrow with the Charlie and Delta companies. 'This training is part of the 70 per cent of military elements applied in the PLKN, apart from shooting practice, we also train them in navigation, survival skills and crossing obstacle courses,' he said at a press conference here today. Mazlizan also said that female PLKN trainees stationed at the 515th Territorial Army Regiment (Askar Wataniah) Camp in Kuala Lumpur will also undergo shooting training and the same basic military module to build discipline, confidence and identity of the young generation as the country's frontliners. 'We are holding training like this because based on past studies, many trainees want to train outdoors and if they are in other locations, they do not have the opportunity to use real weapons. 'The weapon used in the training is the M16 rifle (standard US military rifle) with live ammunition where the trainees are trained to shoot at a distance of 25 metres (m) and 100m in prone, sitting and standing positions,' he said. He said that before practising at the target range, the trainees are first provided with knowledge related to weapons, protocol that is allowed and prohibited when handling weapons to ensure the safety of all present during a drill. A PLKN trainee Aiman Khawarizmi Kamaruddin, 20, from Kota Baru, Kelantan, admitted that he really enjoyed the shooting exercise because it gave him new knowledge and experience.
