Renewed confidence at Woolston Rovers as losing run ends
AFTER an intensely tough period, Woolston Rovers now have something of a spring in their step.
Having brought a long winless run to an end, head coach Liam Lawton says they will now approach Saturday's home fixture with renewed confidence.
Securing back-to-back victories for the first time this season will be a tough ask as a promotion-chasing Ince Rose Bridge side visit Monk Sports Club, but Lawton says his players are keen to 'put a spanner in the works.'
For the sake of their own season, it is important they do so given their perilous position in the National Conference League Division One table – they are second-from-bottom and eight points adrift of safety with six games remaining – but having beaten Egremont Rangers last time out, there is a feel-good factor around the squad.
'Last week's win over Egremont has given everybody at the club a boost,' Lawton said.
'To put an end to the run of defeats stretching back almost three months was really massive and hopefully we can now take that new found confidence into the game with Rose Bridge.
'The lads know that we will be in for another tough battle but it is a game that we can go into with genuine hope of getting something out of it.
'Ince have been really good all season and look as though they will be pushing for promotion but we will be looking to put a spanner in the works and claiming another vital two league points.'
Kick off is at 2.30pm at Monk Sports Club.
Joining them in the NCL Division One relegation zone are Crosfields, who are two points better off but are also running out of time to escape their predicament.
Rob Campbell's men cross the Pennines on Saturday to face Oulton Raiders - the division's bottom club. Kick off is at 2.30pm.
