Eastbound Speedvale Avenue East reduced to one lane due to safety concerns

In a social media post at 4:12 p.m. Friday, the city said eastbound traffic on Speedvale Avenue East had been reduced to one lane near Woolwich Street due to safety concerns regarding road surface resettlement. The south sidewalk is also closed between 45 Speedvale Avenue East and the Speed River. The city did not share how long the lane reduction will be in effect, but said, 'The lane reduction and sidewalk closure will remain in place until the repair work is completed.'

Witnesses told Guelph Police they saw a man set the grass on fire around 6:40 p.m. The damaged area measured about 20 feet, or just over six metres. Video shared with police helped officers identify and also locate the man. The 27-year-old was charged with arson and failure to comply with a probationary order.

Cocaine, fake guns confiscated following Guelph drug trafficking arrest

A Guelph man was arrested in connection to a drug trafficking investigation on Wednesday morning. Guelph Police were informed about a man who may have been trafficking cocaine in the spring. Officers completed a search warrant at a home near Woolwich Street and Marilyn Drive. They confiscated around $2,200 in cocaine, three imitation guns, cash totalling $1,500 and drug packaging paraphernalia. A 35-year-old Guelph man was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.
