Carl says Crusaders had to work hard for latest victory

However, head coach Carl Forster felt his side was fortunate to grab a 24-point margin of victory during what turned out to be a testing afternoon. The match was still in the balance at the midway point with the scoreline tied at 6-6, but Crusaders pulled clear in the second period to gather their seventh triumph from eight matches this season by a 30-6 outcome. Forster told Cru TV: 'I don't think that scoreline reflects the game, to be really honest. 'I thought Keighley had a really huge dig and I just spoke to a few of their boys. They're saying that's the best they've played all year and I thought their middles took it to us and, ultimately, we just come out the other end and posted some great points towards the back end of the game.' With almost half of the campaign completed, it remains so tight at the head of the rankings. Crusaders have a slender one-point advantage over Workington Town and Midlands Hurricanes in the race for the top honour, while fourth-placed Rochdale Hornets are four points back. In what is set to be a critical encounter, North Wales will welcome Rochdale to Colwyn Bay's Stadiwm CSM on Sunday and this match will mark the midway point of the League One campaign.

Top spot for Crusaders on the back of a home triumph

Carl Forster's side knew victory at home to Newcastle Thunder would take them back into pole position in League One and a 74-0 success did the job to move them above Workington Town and Midlands Hurricanes. North Wales got off to a superb start and they had the lead as early as the third minute. After taking possession in his own half, Lloyd Roby broke through the Newcastle defensive line and managed to grab the opening try in the corner. Things got even better for North Wales in the 14th minute when Toby Hughes grabbed the next score, which was converted by Jordy Gibson. Then, in the 20th minute, Crusaders stretched their lead out to 16 points. Sam Wilde claimed the third try and Gibson duly added the extras. Six minutes later and Cru had another try. Despite being under pressure, Hughes managed to spot a gap for his second score of the afternoon. By half-time, North Wales had built-up a healthy 36-0 advantage. Further tries were supplied by Ollie Brookes, Shaun Costello and Josh Eaves, two of which were converted by Gibson. Brookes added two tries early in the second half to complete his hat-trick and further scores quickly came from Paddy Jones, Eaves and Roby as Cru ran riot. In the last 10 minutes, Brookes added his fourth of the contest and Jack Houghton scored the last try three minutes from time. Gibson added the extras to five of the second half tries.
