Carl says Crusaders had to work hard for latest victory

Leader Live26-05-2025
However, head coach Carl Forster felt his side was fortunate to grab a 24-point margin of victory during what turned out to be a testing afternoon.
The match was still in the balance at the midway point with the scoreline tied at 6-6, but Crusaders pulled clear in the second period to gather their seventh triumph from eight matches this season by a 30-6 outcome.
Forster told Cru TV: 'I don't think that scoreline reflects the game, to be really honest.
'I thought Keighley had a really huge dig and I just spoke to a few of their boys. They're saying that's the best they've played all year and I thought their middles took it to us and, ultimately, we just come out the other end and posted some great points towards the back end of the game.'
With almost half of the campaign completed, it remains so tight at the head of the rankings.
Crusaders have a slender one-point advantage over Workington Town and Midlands Hurricanes in the race for the top honour, while fourth-placed Rochdale Hornets are four points back.
In what is set to be a critical encounter, North Wales will welcome Rochdale to Colwyn Bay's Stadiwm CSM on Sunday and this match will mark the midway point of the League One campaign.

Crusaders will be keen to dodge the Hornets' sting!

Crusaders require two wins from their remaining four matches to secure the League One title and next up is Sunday's trip to Rochdale Hornets. Head coach Carl Forster says his side are focused on getting their title charge back on track. North Wales experienced just their second defeat of the season as Swinton Lions ran out 24-12 victors in Colwyn Bay last time out. Sam Wilde, Ollie Brookes and Jack Holmes were Cru's try-scorers on the day. Forster said: 'We've got back in and dusted ourselves off, we've had some honest conversations around the Swinton defeat, there were some errors in there but as cliche as it sounds, we win and lose as a team, and we'll bounce back. 'It felt a bit like the end of the world at full-time on Sunday, but when you take the emotions away, it's only our second league defeat of the season, we've got four games left and need two wins to seal the title so the focus now is on what we have to do. 'That starts this weekend against Rochdale, who I think are a lot stronger than their league position suggests. 'If you look at the points for and against then it probably tells you a better story of what they're about and how difficult they can be to break down. 'They've gone to Goole just two weeks ago and put 50 on them, so we can't think that just turning up Sunday will be enough – far from it. 'Friday, we'll take a closer look at them but also have a talk about ourselves going into that game and the fact that we probably feel we owe it to us as a group to show what we can do after the disappointment last week. 'We've got big characters in this group, and the mood is just one of focus now, we've picked ourselves up and we'll be ready to go again this weekend. 'Our last defeat in the league saw us kick-start a good run of form so let's get that back going again now.' As with last weekend, if everything goes their way, it will be a title-winning Sunday for the Crusaders. Defeats for Swinton Lions and Workington Town, away to Goole Vikings and Dewsbury Rams respectively, would see Crusaders win the league if they can get the better of Rochdale. Elsewhere, Keighley host Newcastle and Midlands travel to Whitehaven.

Promoted Arbroath beat Queen's Park to get off the mark in Championship

The Red Lichties, who cantered to the League One title in April under player-managers David Gold and Colin Hamilton, struck twice inside a minute through Ross Callachan and Findlay Marshall early in the second half. Jack Wilkie rifled home a free-kick to put the result beyond doubt before Josh Fowler struck Queen's Park's late consolation. Dunfermline brothers John and Andrew Tod were both on target as the Pars registered their first league win of the season, 2-0 against Airdieonians at East End Park. Defender John fired home deep in the first half and midfielder Andrew struck just three minutes later. The pair both signed new two-year contracts at the club earlier this summer. Dylan Easton's effort inside the opening minute was enough to secure Raith's first win of the season as they held on to win 1-0 at Ayr. Easton lobbed the ball into the roof of the net from outside the penalty area and struck a post later in the first half direct from a free-kick. Partick Thistle registered their first point of the season following last week's 5-1 opening-day defeat at St Johnstone with a 1-1 draw against Morton at Firhill. Ali Crawford fired Morton into a half-time lead before Logan Chalmers levelled it up for Partick from the penalty spot five minutes into the second half after Jackson Longridge's foul on Tsoanelo Letsosa.
