Traffic Alert for World's Largest Pancake Breakfast in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Spirit of Springfield is notifying drivers of a traffic advisory that will be in place ahead of the World's Largest Pancake Breakfast on Saturday. Starting on Thursday, 'no parking' signs will be posted and enforced by local law enforcement in the area of Main Street from State Street to Bridge Street. At 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Spirit of Springfield officials stated that barricades will be placed where Main Street intersects with Bridge Street and at State Street. World's Largest Pancake Breakfast in downtown Springfield being held May 17th Vehicles at that time will be unable to pass where the barricades are placed, but traffic will be permitted to cross Main Street from Boland Way to Harrison Avenue, traveling down Court Street to City Hall Place and back to East Columbus Avenue. On Saturday at 4:00 a.m., traffic will be closed at the following streets: Main Street from State Street to Bridge Street Boland Way Harrison Avenue Court Street City Hall Place Springfield Police Department officers and members of the Springfield DPW will have vehicles posted in the area as 'hard closures' to prevent all drivers from entering these streets. The streets are estimated to reopen at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Saturday after the event has concluded and roads have been cleaned by the Springfield Business Improvement District and the Hampden County Sheriff's Department. The World's Largest Pancake Breakfast, sponsored by MGM Springfield, will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday on Main Street in downtown Springfield. The event will be supported by hundreds of volunteers. Breakfast will be $3 for adults and $1 for children. World's Largest Pancake Breakfast in downtown Springfield being held May 17th

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The World's Largest Pancake Breakfast will line Main Street in Springfield on Saturday, May 17th. The World's Largest Pancake Breakfast is in honor of Springfield's birthday and has been an annual tradition since 1986. This event, which has been sponsored by MGM Springfield since 2013, will be held on May 17th from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Main Street from State Street to Bridge Street. Springfield Fire Commissioner B.J. Calvi is this year's Honorary Chair. He is being recognized for seven years of service to the city and the residents of Springfield, and has over 30 years of experience in fire and emergency services. Commissioner Calvi also manages 274 firefighters, 45 emergency communications personnel, and 14 civilian employees. Admission is free however, breakfast tickets are $3 for adults and $1 for children. The menu features a hot, hearty breakfast of pancakes, bacon, coffee, juice, milk, lots of entertainment and activities, and community spirit. Exhibitors and performers welcome at World's Largest Pancake Breakfast in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Spirit of Springfield's annual World's Largest Pancake Breakfast is a little over a month away and community members are being encouraged to take part in the festivities. Sponsored by MGM Springfield, the event will be held this year on May 17 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Businesses and organizations will get the opportunity to showcase their products and services while connecting with the community. Celebrate National Beer Day by raising a glass at these local breweries Many local businesses and programs have already registered, including Martin Luther King Jr. Charter School, The Farmers Market at Forest Park, Eastern States Exposition, and Greater Springfield Habitat for Humanity. Those who sign up will be provided with an eight-foot table in a high-traffic area. Entertainers are also invited to make their mark at special performance areas during the event. Music, dance, martial arts, and athletic demonstrations are welcome. Gift and giveaway events will take place throughout the day, hosted by sponsors including the Massachusetts Air and Army National Guard, Monson Savings Bank, and WWLP-22News. Spirit of Springfield said that over 10,000 people are expected to attend the World's Largest Pancake Breakfast this year. The deadline to register your community service organization or business is April 18. Spirit of Springfield President Judy Matt, Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, Louis Theros, MGM Springfield President, John Sjoberg, Spirit of Springfield Chair, his colleagues from the Spirit of Springfield Board, sponsors, supporters, and volunteers are all in attendance for the announcement.
