Anupam Kher Holds Special Screening Of Tanvi The Great For Specially Abled Kids
The screening welcomed 20 specially abled children, their families and various other dignitaries and social workers.
Tanvi The Great, directed by renowned actor Anupam Kher, is receiving much love from both critics and audiences for its powerful and uplifting storyline. Released nationwide on July 18, the film shows a young woman with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who defies the odds to fulfill a dream close to her heart. Now, to generate more awareness on autism, a special screening was held at PVR Curo Mall in Jalandhar for specially abled kids and their parents.
Organised by Dr Jaswinder Singh, president of the World Bio Cares Health Organisation (WBCHO), the event aimed to raise awareness, inspire families with specially abled children, and spread the message of positivity among members of the community.
The screening welcomed 20 specially abled children, their families, and various other dignitaries and social workers. Shweta Dhir, social worker and wife of Jalandhar Mayor Vaneet Dhir, graced the event and served as the chief guest.
Speaking to The Tribune, Dr Jaswinder revealed the event's broader mission. He said, 'Thousands of children suffering from autism spectrum and speech disorders, ADHD, etc., have been treated by our organisation. The prime aim of the event held today was to introduce parents of specially abled children to the infinite possibilities their children can explore and the great heights they are capable of reaching if their condition is viewed anew from a different perspective."
'The film is also about such a girl who achieves great feats. Our prime purpose is to empower such parents and mainstream the children. The screening was another step in this direction," he added.
Chief guest Shweta Dhir echoed this sentiment, saying, 'Initiatives like this are very important for creating social awareness. A film like 'Tanvi The Great' inspires not just children, but adults as well."
Dr Shuvendu Sen, a well-recognised physician, educator, and award-winning author, praised the film in a widely shared blog. Noting the film's respectful portrayal of autism, he wrote, 'Tanvi The Great surprised me… pleasantly. A movie on a human disorder can only become a message when the disorder itself is respected. And it is this very respect given to a girl with a difference that signaled the exotic and unique nature of this film. For a spectrum as sensitive as autism, only an incredibly sensitive artist like Anupam Kher can generate such a powerful portrayal."
Tanvi The Great marks Anupam Kher's second directorial project. Inspired by true events, it tells the story of 21-year-old Tanvi Raina, a girl with autism spectrum disorder, who embarks on a journey to honour her late father's dream of saluting the national flag at the Siachen Glacier. Despite facing numerous challenges, Tanvi steps into the Indian Army, where her determination inspires everyone she meets.
The film stars Shubhangi Dutt in a breakout role as Tanvi, alongside Anupam Kher as Colonel Pratap Raina, Iain Glen as Michael Simmons, Boman Irani as Raja Sahab, Jackie Shroff as Brigadier Joshi, Arvind Swami as Major Srinivasan, Pallavi Joshi as Vidya Raina, Karan Tacker as Captain Samar Raina, Nassar as Brigadier KN Rao, and Joanna Ashka as Joanna Ciosek. The soundtrack is composed by Oscar-winning maestro MM Keeravani.
