Cooperation of Vizagites, a key to massive turnout': CM

Visakhapatnam: With a participation of 3.02 lakh, Visakhapatnam created history by gaining a place in Guinness World Records for the largest gathering for yoga in one place, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said. Appreciating ministers, district officials, public representatives and more importantly people of Visakhapatnam for their complete cooperation in making the 11th edition of the International Yoga Day a massive success, Naidu emphasised at a media conference that public cooperation is key to massive turnout. 'This is just the beginning of ambitious plans the NDA has in promoting public health and wellness to the next level,' the CM emphasised. With technology playing a crucial role in making the event a hassle-free affair, Naidu reiterated that the record participation could become a reality due to the incorporation of technology, including the introduction of QR code-based participant tracking system. With two Guinness World Records, including 22,122 tribal students performing Surya namaskarams on the eve of the International Yoga Day and for the largest gathering for yoga in one place on the IYD, the massive event gained entry into 21 World Book of Records. Sharing the statistics, Naidu stated that even as the cabinet ministers raised doubts when he called for a record breaking IYD celebrations, eventually, they reposed faith in his aspirations, extending support to the biggest endeavour organised ever in Visakhapatnam. 'Within a short span of time, Yogandhra-2025 garnered extensive support from across the people of Andhra Pradesh as they place trust in my leadership and are aware of the benefits yoga offers,' the Chief Minister stressed, adding that people volunteered happily for the event without any force. Recalling how people of Visakhapatnam refrained from bursting crackers when the CM called out for Diwali celebrations sans firecrackers when Hudhud cyclone left a trail of devastation in 2014, Naidu underlined, 'It is with the same spirit, Vizagites volunteered to make the IYD event a massive success.' About Prime Minister specially appreciating IT and Industries Minister Nara Lokesh's efforts in making yoga a true social celebration, including every section of society, Naidu stated that Lokesh succeeded in planning out 26 theme-based yoga events in a short span of time and his efforts caught the attention of the Prime Minister.

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday said in Visakhapatnam that the state set 23 global records - two Guinness Records and 21 World Book of Records - on the 11th International Yoga Day on Saturday. Addressing media persons after performing Yoga along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr Naidu said 3.03 lakh people have gathered here to perform the ancient lifestyle art, creating a world record for most people performing Yoga at a single location. The southern state aimed to attract five lakh people for the single location record, but managed to assemble around 3.03 lakh enthusiasts. "A total of 23 global records comprising 21 World Book of Records and two Guinness Records were created," said Naidu, elaborating on the yoga day feats. However, the exact number of participants will be announced by the Guinness World Records authorities, he said. Describing the 11th International Yoga Day celebration as a grand success, Mr Naidu expressed joy over 22,122 tribal students simultaneously performing 108 Surya namaskar for 108 minutes in one location, thus creating the second Guinness World Record. This feat was achieved on Friday at Andhra University. "Today, Visakhapatnam saw two mighty oceans, with Bay of Bengal on one side, and a boundless sea of yoga practitioners on the other. I joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi and lakhs of citizens to celebrate International Yoga Day and mark the success of our Yogandhra campaign," said Mr Naidu in a post on X. He thanked Prime Minister Modi for giving the opportunity to host this event and for his 'inspiring presence'. "This historic gathering shows our commitment to health through the power of yoga. I commend every participant, organiser, and volunteer who made this record-breaking event possible. Let's keep moving forward towards a healthier and happier Andhra Pradesh with regular yoga practice," he said. We have created history. This is a super hit, he said adding that the state government expected about two crore registrations from across the state to perform Yoga today. However, the number shot up to 2.45 crore. He also said that 1.8 crore people are eligible to receive certificates for participating in yoga activities for one to three days. Overjoyed by these big numbers, the CM asserted that people will not turn up unless they find something beneficial, adding that the decade-long efforts of Modi have fructified. He noted that over 170 countries have accepted the yoga day and this ancient lifestyle art was performed in 12 lakh locations by 10 crore people globally. In Andhra Pradesh, 26 theme-based yoga sessions were organised in the 26 districts and at 101 tourist spots, he added. Yoga was performed in around 1.3 lakh venues across the state, and 2.17 crore people participated in them, he said. He also added that 1.46 lakh yoga trainers were identified. Offshore, naval ships also hosted yoga activities. The Chief Minister said the NDA alliance government will bring a coffee table book and a video on yoga day to promote it locally, nationally, and internationally. Likewise, he said the Visakhapatnam Declaration will also be brought on Yoga Day. Earlier, he said this declaration would urge people to make yoga part of their everyday life. Similarly, he said the state government will also set up Yoga Adhyayan Parishad and called on the people of the state to set aside one hour a day for yoga. Prime Minister Narendra Modi practices yoga, and this was the secret of his health, and he has never taken leave for the past 11 years, Chandrababu Naid said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in International Yoga Day celebrations here on Saturday at RK Beach, accompanied by N Chandrababu Naidu and others. Barodian turns personal struggle into social mission

Vadodara: What began as a personal hardship has turned into a mission of compassion for Rutvik Purohit , a 32-year-old Vadodara resident who has emerged as one of the youngest organisers of mass weddings in India . Fourteen years ago, his family faced such acute financial strain for just Rs 1,200 during his sister's marriage that the ceremony was delayed for hours. That moment became a turning point for Rutvik, who pledged to support girls from underprivileged families by assuming the symbolic role of a brother and helping them get married with dignity. On Sunday night, Rutvik's charitable initiative, under the banner of Team Trees Charitable Trust , hosted its third mass wedding, where 32 couples exchanged vows in a grand ceremony marked by traditional rituals, musical bands, and celebratory drums. The event, held in Vadodara, was not only a celebration of love but also a showcase of social commitment — as 10,000 attendees pledged to donate their organs, setting a world record. "The World Book of Records deeply appreciates your potential and achievements for the first-of-its-kind communal wedding with humanitarian oath – an organ donation pledge by 10,000 people, setting a global example of compassion and social responsibility," reads the certificate awarded to Rutvik by the World Book of Records, London. Since he began the initiative at the age of 28, Rutvik and his team have facilitated the weddings of 116 couples. The inspiration behind this mission traces back to his own childhood. His father, Bhagirathbhai Purohit, repaired televisions and appliances for a living. Rutvik still remembers how his family struggled with debts at 15% interest just to get his sister Bhavini married. "That hardship stayed with me," he said. "I promised God that if I gained the strength, I would spare thousands of parents from suffering the same fate. " Rutvik's trust hosts weddings under the theme 'Dikri Vahal no Daryo', with each edition focusing on a different social cause. In 2024, 46 couples were married under the theme of voter awareness, with brides taking their final wedding round around a banyan tree and 12,000 attendees pledging to vote. This year, the focus shifted to organ donation. Rutvik funds the ceremonies by reserving 20% of his income and accepting donations. Registrations for the mass weddings open six months in advance, and the selection process is rigorous. "This year, we received 932 applications. After verification, 35 couples were shortlisted, and 32 finally got married," he said. He noted, however, that not all applications are genuine. "We often come across individuals living in hostels who want to register just to receive items given as part of 'kanyadaan'," Rutvik said. "Some applicants have even been married before. We only select genuine cases where both partners have parental consent and are in genuine need of support." Rutvik continues to lead his mission with quiet determination, turning his family's past pain into hope for hundreds of families across Gujarat.
