Thiruvananthapuram Corporations seed ball project in World Book of Records
Last Updated: Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 10 (PTI) The Thiruvananthapuram corporation's 'seed ball project" has been included in the World Book of Records, the local body's Mayor Arya S Rajendran said on Sunday. The project, the mayor and the students involved in the initiative have been included in the London-based World Book of Records, according to Rajendran's Facebook post. She said that all the 6,000 students who participated in the project would receive certificates in their names from the World Book of Records. Rajendran received the certificate for 'organising Seed Ball Movement aimed at promoting reforestation, biodiversity and community-based environmental action by dispersing four lakh seed balls with the participation of 6,000 students in three hours on August 9, 2025 at Putharikandam Maithanam, Thiruvananthapuram". She shared a photo of the certificate along with her Facebook post in which she also mentioned that the Thiruvananthapuram corporation had received the UN Habitat Global Award for sustainable development activities last year. 'All these recognitions go to the people of this state," she said. The seed ball project was inaugurated on August 9 by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Thiruvananthapuram corporation's seed ball campaign enters World Book of Records
Thiruvananthapuram : Seed ball-making campaign organised by city corporation at Putharikandam Maidan on Saturday morning secured a place in the World Book of Records. The campaign, part of the city's broader environmental protection initiatives, saw the enthusiastic participation of over 7,000 students, exceeding the original plan to involve 6,000 participants. The campaign involved preparing seed balls – mixtures of soil, fertilizer and seeds – which will later be deposited in various locations across the city to promote urban afforestation and enhance greenery. The large-scale participation and the speed of execution helped the event earn a spot in the record books, authorities said. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan who inaugurated the city's Green Budget 2025 at the venue praised the seed ball initiative as a model programme for other civic bodies in the state and beyond. "Thiruvananthapuram has become the first city in Kerala to implement a Green Budget. This is a model initiative that local self-govts across the state can emulate," he said during the inaugural speech. The perilous journey, led by Col Ranveer Singh Jamwal, SM, VSM & Bar, Director of NIMAS, was marked by harrowing moments, including the raft capsizing four times and the team being ensnared in a powerful whirlpool. Major Kavitha credited their triumph to unyielding teamwork and divine providence. Beyond her river rafting exploits, Major Kavitha's valor is equally evident in high-altitude mountaineering. During an expedition to Mount Gorichen, she displayed extraordinary courage by saving a fellow climber who had lost consciousness at 5,900 meters for which she was awarded the COAS Commendation. How MP police anti-drugs campaign earned pride of place in world record books
A Madhya Pradesh police drive against substance abuse and addiction has notched unprecedented success and a place in the World Book of Records. State director general of police Kailash Makwana will be in the British parliament on September 13 for a special felicitation ceremony for the London-based World Book of Records recognised the anti-addiction drive 'Nashe Se Doori Hai Zaroori', organised from July 15 to July 30, for its scale of engagement with people and impact. The campaign directly reached an estimated 2.3 million people besides millions through social media World Book of Records has already organised a felicitation event at the Madhya Pradesh police headquarters in Bhopal, where the certificate was presented to Makwana. Top police officials, such as K.P. Venkateshwara Rao, additional director general (narcotics), were 'Nashe Se Doori Hai Zaroori' programme was conceptualised by the Madhya Pradesh police and run through all field units, including the 1,700-odd police stations across 57 districts of the state. The police also roped in influencers for anti-addiction messaging to the people. The Indore police commissionerate was the most proactive, organising massive human chains and oath-taking activity during the fortnight. The campaign, also involving the education, social welfare and health departments, was focused on narcotics. MP is one of the few states allowing licenced cultivation of opium in the western districts of Mandsaur, Neemuch, Ratlam and Shajapur. The opium is used by the pharma there have been reports of illegal opium cultivation as well. Of late, incidents have emerged of the manufacturing and supply of party drugs such as MDMA (3, 4-methylenedioxy-methamphetamine), popularly known as ecstasy. Last October, Gujarat sleuths busted a factory producing MDMA in an industrial area on the outskirts of Bhopal. And just last week, MDMA was found on one of the three men arrested in the arrest of the suspect and his family members coincided with the anti-addiction campaign. The administration deployed bulldozers to dismantle properties owned by the business to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data for 2022, Madhya Pradesh, with 4,811 cases, ranked seventh in the country for cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Kavitha creates history in river rafting expedition
New Delhi/Srikakulam: In a remarkable display of courage and endurance, Major Kavitha Vasupalli, a medical officer in the Indian Army, has made history as the sole woman participant in a world-record-setting Brahmaputra river rafting expedition. The team navigated a staggering 1,040 kilometre in just 28 days, travelling from Gelling village near the Indo-Tibetan border to Hatsingimari, close to the Indo-Bangladesh border. A native of Metturu village in Srikakulam district, Major Kavitha faced formidable challenges. She braved Grade 4+ rapids, freezing waters, and multiple raft flips. Undeterred by nature's fury, she demonstrated not only incredible physical resilience but also immense mental fortitude. This journey was a battle against the river's wildest forces, demanding peak physical fitness and unwavering emotional and mental endurance. Major Kavitha's journey represents the spirit of the modern Indian soldier: bold, compassionate, and unstoppable. In recognition of her selfless service and indomitable spirit, she was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal on Republic Day 2025. She also received the COAS Commendation Card for her life-saving medical actions during the Mt. Gorichen summit expedition. Her participation in the expedition is an inspiration, particularly for women in rural India, proving that courage knows no gender and grit has no boundaries. The historic expedition was led by Col Ranveer Singh Jamwal, a renowned adventurer, Tenzing Norgay Awardee, and a three-time Everest summiteer. As the director of the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS), his leadership was instrumental in turning the journey into a landmark achievement in global adventure sports. World Book of Records, London, also gave a certificate of participation in the adventurous journey in Brahmaputra to her. Kavitha's name was entered in World Book of Records in March 2025 for her achievement for the river rafting expedition.
