SG PPP asks workers to shun internal rifts, strengthen party

PESHAWAR: Central Secretary General PPP Mohammad Hamayun Khan has asked the party workers to shun their internal rifts and join hands for the strengthening and re-organisation of the party to make the top popular party of the province. Addressing a well-participated function organised under the auspices of the People's Labour Bureau, a labour-wing of the party held here at Nishtar Hall in connections with World Labour Day, he said 'whenever PPP had come into power, it had steps for bringing improvement in the life of the labourers.' Besides, provincial president PPP KP Syed Mohammad Ali Shah Bacha, Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Romina Khalid, parliamentary leader of PPP in KP Assembly Ahmad Karim Kundi, president of People's Labour Bureau Shah Zulqarnain, labour leaders Razam Khan, Habibullah and Sirajuddin Burki and others also addressed the function. Mohammad Hamayun Khan recalled that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto during his government had introduced numerous labourer-friendly reforms, saying the establishment of the institutes like Workers' Welfare Board (WWB) and Employees Social Security Institute (ESSI) are ample proofs in this record. He further said that PPP in its rule during 2008-2013 had taken revolutionary step of increasing the salaries of the public sector employees by 170 percent, beside giving a consensual National Finance Commission (NFC) Award and landmark 18th Constitutional Amendment to guarantee provincial autonomy and granting rights over resources to federating units. He directed the party's office bearers at district, tehsil and ward level to go to masses and create awareness amongst them about these achievements and people-friendly policies of the party. In his address on the occasion, provincial president PPP KP Syed Mohammad Ali Shah Bacha lambasted the anti-people policies and corrupt practices of the PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that from the last week of the current month, PPP is beginning a mass protest against the anti-people and corrupt government of KP. The protest will include a sit-in in front of KP Assembly and major highways to create awareness amongst the masses about the inept and corrupt government in the province. Various resolutions were also passed in the function demanding 100 percent increase in the salaries of the government employees, raising monthly minimum wage to Rs50,000. PPP stages 'Pakistan Zindabad' rally

The Pakistan Peoples Party staged a 'Pakistan Zindaabad' rally on Thursday against India's increasing hostile posturing following the Pahalgam incident and to celebrate the shelving of the controversial canals project. The rally started from Tower and culminated at the Sindh Assembly Chowk, where it turned into a public gathering. Addressing the gathering, Saeed Ghani spelled out three objectives of the rally. First, he said, was to pay tribute to the martyrs of the 1886 Chicago labour movement in honour of World Labour Day. Second, he highlighted the resolution of the recent canal dispute. The third aim, he said, was to send a clear message in response to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's provocations.

Mandatory rest period for workers amid heat, says CM

With the city reeling under sweltering heat, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday said the Delhi government has instructed authorities to mandate a rest period for workers between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. when the daytime temperature is at its highest. The measure is part of the government's summer action plan. Ms. Gupta added that her government would also conduct a health check-up of labourers and their family members. 'The government will take full responsibility for the health of workers. Considering the intense heat, arrangements will be made to ensure that labourers are not forced to work between 12 noon and 3 p.m. An official advisory has already been issued in this regard,' said Ms. Gupta while attending a felicitation ceremony for workers in Karol Bagh on World Labour Day. She stated that all labourers can avail of free medical treatment up to ₹10 lakh under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, recently implemented in the city. On other initiatives, Ms. Gupta said, 'While women from wealthy families can afford crèche or playschool, poor women often lack such options. If they stay at home to care for their children, they lose their source of income. To address this issue, the Delhi government has decided to establish 500 'Palna Kendra' (daycares) in Delhi. These will have trained nurses and Anganwadi workers.'

‘DMK govt's aim is equitable society'

Chennai: Chief minister M K Stalin on Thursday said his govt settled disputes between employers and employees through discussions. Relationships between employer, employees are balanced through mediation, he said, after laying a wreath at the May Day Park to mark International Workers' Day . Stalin said, "You know that Tamil Nadu is witnessing massive industrial growth, and as a result, workers are also growing. Industrial development in Tamil Nadu is on the rise. Just like targets are fixed for industrial growth, govt has fixed targets for the growth of workers too. Whenever a new project comes up and we sign an MoU, the first question I raise is the total number of jobs generated from the project."
