Art Without Limits: Bunbury exhibition showcases talent of artists living with neurological conditions

Bunbury's Stirling Street Arts Centre has opened its doors to the rest of the State to showcase the talent of artists living with multiple sclerosis and other neurological conditions. Art Without Limits — which opened on May 29 — is an exhibition curated by MSWA aiming to highlight the unique perspectives, skills and passions of more than 50 artists from across Western Australia. Coinciding with World MS Day on May 30, the theme of this year's exhibition is 'expression of self', providing a platform for individuals to share their stories and demonstrate who they are, beyond their condition. The free exhibition also opened in Perth last week and featured a diverse collection of paintings, photography, sculpture and mixed media. MSWA client Linda Beach was diagnosed with MS in 1986 after a career working as a nurse. She said the hardest part of living with the condition was its unpredictable nature. 'I think with MS, it's fear,' she said. 'A fear of not knowing what next way it's going to take you.' Ms Beach said she hoped the exhibition would 'wake the public up' to the condition and encourage people to be more compassionate. She recalled a day in the Bunbury town centre, when she fell into the gutter trying to get out of her car. 'Three women walked past me laughing. It was awful,' she said. 'Then a man on a Harley motorbike saw me, turned around, parked his bike, crossed the road and lifted me. He said 'I've got you Nana' and sat me down on the bench'.' Ms Beach's creative piece Frustration symbolises the anger and heartache of living with MS. 'It takes a lot of you away, your independence,' she said. According to MS Australia , two thirds of Australians living with MS face loneliness, often due to stigma, changes in work and the impact on relationships. MSWA chief executive Melanie Kiely said the exhibition was designed to show that people with neurological conditions can push their limits and use their condition as inspiration to achieve 'incredible things'. 'Living with MS and other neurological conditions often means carrying experiences the world can't see,' she said. MSWA community engagement officer Emily Ace said their clients had 'amazing stories, talent, hopes and dreams just like everybody else'. 'We're trying to showcase the people, not just the condition that they live with,' she said. '(We're) just trying to break down that barrier with the general public and show them another side of the amazing people behind those conditions and what they can really do.' The exhibition will run until Thursday June 5 and is open from 9am-4pm.

Nigel Farage hates the very idea of Scotland having its own Parliament

I know people across Scotland are still really struggling with the cost of living. Energy bills, food prices, and mortgage costs are still much higher than they should be. And since their election last year, Keir Starmer's Labour Government have made it worse – cutting the winter fuel payment, presiding over higher energy bills and cutting support to disabled people. People trusted Labour to sort out the mess the Tories left behind and they have been badly let down. That has opened the door for Nigel Farage to step in and try and portray himself as the defender of ordinary people. But let's be clear – Nigel Farage does not care about ordinary people. He does not care about you, or your family or your community. Nigel Farage is a multimillionaire and only cares about himself and making his rich pals even richer. And he is trying to exploit people's anger to get them to vote against their own interests. We all know that Farage wants to turn people against each other. But let's look at what else he actually believes. He would like to see Scotland's budget cut – complaining that too much money is 'going over Hadrian's wall' to pay for free tuition and free prescriptions. He hates the very idea of Scotland having its own Parliament. He votes against basic tenets of workers rights – including things we all take for granted, like sick pay. And he wants to charge you for using the NHS by moving to an 'insurance-based system' just like America. That is not the record of a man of the people – that is the record of a conman. He is after all responsible for Brexit which has made everyone poorer. This week, people in Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse will be voting in a by-election. And because there are votes up for grabs, Farage has decided to make a daytrip to Scotland today. Labour have now given up on defending their own record, their campaign has collapsed and they can't win. So it's a two-horse race between the SNP and Farage's candidate. Only the SNP are standing up to Farage in this by-election. And only the SNP is strong enough to face him down. I am confident that people in Scotland know a conman when they see one – and that they will see through Farage's day trip today. And on Thursday, I am asking people to unite behind the SNP to send him packing. My inspirational wife is the reason I can do my job Last Friday we marked World MS Day – a chance for us to show our support for people living with Multiple Sclerosis. One of those people is my wonderful wife, Elizabeth. She has never been someone who is willing to let her condition stop her from living life to the full – but it does make life harder and there are times we just cannot do things that other people take for granted. As First Minister, I spend a lot of time travelling the country so I have not been able to be at home as much as I would like – or perhaps as much as Elizabeth needs. With the help of friends and family – but mostly due to Elizabeth's strength and our son Matthew's helpfulness - we manage to make it work. But it is undeniable that without Elizabeth's sacrifice and support, I would not be able to do the job of serving the country I love. Every day she is an inspiration to me, and both Matthew and I are so grateful for the courage she shows every day.

MS awareness programmes end with a meet

It starts with blurry vision, numbness in your legs, body weakness, imbalance, bladder issues and fatigue. Even when people visit a general physician with some symptoms of this disease, it goes missed,' pointed out Dr Venkataraman Karthikeyan, consultant neurologist at Kauvery Hospitals. In discussion was Multiple Sclerosis (MS), an autoimmune disease, 'where your own immunological system has gone rogue and the system which it wants to protect, it is going and hitting.' The neurologist was speaking at the awareness meeting about Multiple Sclerosis to empower persons with the disease, conducted by the Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI) Chennai Chapter on Friday at Anna Nagar Tower Park. World Multiple Sclerosis Day is celebrated on May 30 every year. The theme for this year's World MS Day was 'Navigating MS together - My MS diagnosis'. To spread awareness, the organisation had been conducting a range of activities throughout May, including neurographic art, transforming one's traumatic diagnosis into a colourful storybook, interaction with neurologists, energising yoga therapy, counselling, and brain lab sessions, as well as public awareness programmes at Chennai Airport and radio talk shows.

Erth Zayed Philanthropies donates Dhs25m to NMSS

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) has signed a strategic agreement with Erth Zayed Philanthropies to advance its national multiple sclerosis (MS) agenda. As part of this agreement, Erth Zayed Philanthropies will contribute Dhs25 million to support NMSS in delivering its core priorities, including advancing UAE's first National Coalition for MS, a multi-sector platform to improve care, research, and inclusion across the country. The agreement was signed by Dr. Fatima Al Kaabi, Vice Chair of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and a representative from Erth Zayed Philanthropies during a formal ceremony in Abu Dhabi. The announcement of this strategic agreement coincides with World MS Day, marked this year under the global theme 'My MS Diagnosis: Navigating MS Together,' which highlights the importance of early detection and community support. This year, Erth Zayed Philanthropies joins the National Coalition for MS as a founding partner, marking a pivotal step in the UAE's efforts to advance equitable MS care and inclusion. This strategic partnership reinforces the UAE's commitment to enhancing MS care, accelerating research, and advancing equity, catalysing broader multi-sector engagement to shape a more inclusive and transformative national response. Coalition members include Sanofi, Axios International, PureHealth and Manzil Healthcare Services, each playing a vital role in advancing care, awareness, and system-wide impact. Dr. Fatima Al Kaabi said, 'The establishment of the National Coalition for MS is a defining step in our mission to drive equitable access to MS care. This work is inspired by the legacy of our Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, whose vision was rooted in dignity, inclusion, and access to quality care for all. It is sustained by the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, whose commitment continues to shape the future of health and reinforce the UAE's position as a global leader in innovative, people-centered healthcare.' 'On World MS Day, we are proud to join the international community, not only in raising awareness, but in taking meaningful, coordinated action that has the potential to transform outcomes for people living with MS. Today, we are laying the foundations for long-term impact rooted in compassion, powered by collaboration, and guided by a shared responsibility to ensure that every member of our community has the opportunity to live a full and dignified life.' On World MS Day, Chennai Chapter of MSSI raises awareness

To mark the World Multiple Sclerosis Day which falls on May 30 every year, the Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI ) Chennai Chapter held an awareness campaign on Friday at Anna Nagar Tower Park. 'The theme of World MS Day 2025 is 'My MS Diagnosis' which puts an emphasis on how to diagnose MS, a neuro degenerative disorder. The program is held at the park to create awareness among the general public about Multiple Sclerosis and how quickly they should consult a neurologist,' says Ann Gonsalvez, founder member of the Chennai chapter. 'To de-stress persons living with MS, we have yoga therapy, art therapy, fatigue management, and more - which is also why we have brought music today,' she said. 'The Multiple Sclerosis mainly affects people aged 18-40, and it tends to affect women more. But as a society, there is only limited awareness about it. If it is detected early and treated, people affected can live just like anyone else,' said Dr Venkatraman Karthikeayan, Consultant Neurologist at Kauvery Hospital. 'The MSSI Chennai Chapter hopes to continue improving the quality of life for those affected. There are many people who are unaware of the treatments available for MS, which is why campaigns like these are important,' said Archana Ganesan, a member with MS condition. Around 40 members of MSSI and individuals with MS condition attended the event.
