Alison grabs two golds, two bronzes: ‘I could have done better'

By: GL Oh Text Size: Alison showing off her medals. Kota Kinabalu: Dr Alison Chew captured two gold and two bronze medals at the ongoing World Masters Games 2025 in Taipei, Taiwan. The Sabahan, who took part in the women's 40s age group, crossed the line first in the 100 metres (m) (13.29 seconds [s]) and 400m hurdles (76.73s) events and the bronzes from the 200m (27.76s) and 400m (64.74s). Despite her biggest medal haul on the international stage against some of the world's best athletes, she was still feeling a bit disappointed with the times achieved. 'I am obviously happy to deliver the medals for the contingent but at the same time, I was not fully satisfied with the time I managed. 'I believe I could have done better. I have been training for the 400m and 400m hurdles for the past four months prior to the competition. 'My initial aim was to run at least personal best times in the two events at the championship. However, two weeks before the release of the games startlist, my coach (Fahrul Nazri) and I decided to change our target and instead aim for more medals instead.
Advertisement 'It was a risk I took with the two additional events because it involved me running in heats and finals for four consecutive days. 'It was quite exhausting and as a result, the times achieved was no to my liking, but still good enough to put me on the podium, with the gold medals won on the first two days and the two bronzes coming in the next two days,' she said on Wednesday. The Taipei trip was her second competition outside of Asean, having competed in the World Masters Athletics Championship (WMAC) in Gothenburg, Sweden in August last year. She managed to qualify for the 400m hurdles final and finished in a respectable sixth place with a personal best time of 70.49s and also recorded another personal best of 61.85s to reach the semi-final in the 400m. Meanwhile, she was among the nine-member team from Sabah Masters Athletics Association (Samas) representing Malaysia in the two-week event.
