Irmohizam first Malaysian to receive top award at EEA 2025
KUALA LUMPUR — Group Managing Director of World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) Datuk Seri Dr Irmohizam Ibrahim (picture) has made history by becoming the first Malaysian to receive the Distinguished Leadership Award at the Exhibition Excellence Awards (EEA) 2025 in Navi Mumbai, India. WTCKL, in a statement, said the event was hosted by Exhibition Showcase, India's largest industry award platform and held at the CIDCO Exhibition & Convention Centre on May 31. It said the EEA celebrates key figures and acknowledges the contributions of the unsung heroes in the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) and Business Events (BE) industries. 'Datuk Seri Dr Irmohizam Ibrahim's unwavering dedication to reshaping the future of the BE industry while setting new benchmarks for continued growth was recognised with this award,' the statement read. The award was presented by Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) chief executive officer Michael Kruppe, in recognition of Irmohizam's transformative leadership and his pivotal role in reshaping the future of the industry. 'I am deeply honoured to receive this prestigious award as it reflects my passion and unwavering commitment to the growth and transformation of the BE industry. 'I hope that in the future we can build a more resilient, innovative and inclusive ecosystem that empowers industry players to succeed and thrive in an evolving global landscape,' Irmohizam was quoted as saying. Irmohizam, who also serves on the Board of the World Trade Centers Association (WTCA), was commended for his vision and impact in positioning Malaysia as a central hub for business events in the Asian region and globally. Other recipients include Ray Bloom, founder and chairman of IMEX Group; Mala Dorasamy, CEO of the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre; and Adeline Vancauwelaert, chief operating officer of UFI – The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry. Religious Affairs Minister hospitalised due to food poisoning
PUTRAJAYA: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, is being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Putrajaya Hospital after reportedly suffering from food poisoning on Monday (May 5), reports Sinar Harian. The Malay language daily said this had been confirmed by sources, who said that Mohd Na'im had been admitted on Tuesday (May 6). The source also told Sinar Harian that the minister was in stable condition and was warded at the ICU for monitoring. Mohd Na'im began experiencing symptoms of food poisoning on Monday and initially received treatment at a hospital in Kuala Lumpur before being discharged. "However, his condition worsened on Tuesday before he received treatment at Putrajaya Hospital. "Currently, he is in good condition," the source told Sinar Harian. Meanwhile, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) Group managing director Datuk Seri Dr Irmohizam Ibrahim, who visited Mohd Na'im on Monday, also prayed for his recovery. In a social media post, Irmohizam described Mohd Na'im as someone who serves as an example in strengthening Islamic values and fostering unity among Malaysians. "At this moment, I, along with many others, pray that the Honourable Senator is granted a swift and complete recovery, and given the strength to resume his duties with full spirit and calmness. "Our prayers and thoughts are always with the Honourable Senator. May he remain resilient and strong in facing this challenge," he said.

Fauzy Wahad named new group CEO of WTCKL
KUALA LUMPUR: The World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) has appointed Fauzy Wahab as its new group chief executive officer effective May 1. In a statement today, WTCKL said Fauzy, who has served as the organisations' chief operating officer since 2019, helped lead the centre through the pandemic, including its role as a major Covid-19 vaccination hub during the Movement Control Order. He also played a part in the 2018 rebranding of the former Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), the statement read. With over 26 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Fauzy said he aims to strengthen WTCKL's position as a leading events destination in the region. "WTCKL is not just an international trade centre, we also want to be the country's top event infrastructure manager and support a wider diversity of events," he said. He said the venue now hosts a wider range of events, including concerts, festivals, corporate functions and lifestyle activities, including meet-and-greet sessions with international stars and athletes.
