Apple iOS 26: 5 Significant New Features May Come To AirPods, Report Claims
When Apple announces the new software updates for the iPhone at the keynote for next Monday's World Wide Developers Conference, there will be iOS nuggets which will be relevant for the AirPods, a new report says. AirPods 4 AFP via Getty Images Not all of these are certain to be announced at the keynote, the report from 9to5Mac caveats — in fact maybe none of them will. Most are new, though some have been rumored before. You'll know already that on AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4, you can nod or shake your head to accept or decline a call, for instance. Very handy in a crowded elevator, for instance, even if it does make you look a bit weird. It's reported that new head gestures will include extending the volume adjustment during Conversation Awareness. It's not clear what the gesture might be — there are only so many ways you can tip, twist or move your head. If you haven't tried Audio Mix on the iPhone, it's great. When you record a video, the iPhone can separate different sections of the audio so you can boost voices or create discrete audio effects. It looks like the AirPods could create a microphone mode that's studio quality. We'll have to see what this means. If you fall asleep while listening to something, a new feature can spot this and pause playback, it's claimed. This is especially useful if you're listening to an audiobook and you wake up to hear the AirPods revealing the denouement of a novel when you fell asleep ages ago. Clicking an AirPod stem could trigger the iPhone camera, it's thought. This is good. It's something that was possible years ago with EarPods when you could squeeze the control on the cable. Finally, the report claims that the pairing experience for AirPods when connecting to shared iPads could be improved. Despite the report, I'm not sure all the above will be announced. AirPods tend to get their moment in the sun during the iPhone event in the fall. Even so, it's possible some of them will feature in the keynote or those screens showing 'all the features we haven't had time to show you,' for analysts to spot later.

WWDC 2025: Apple Just Unveiled Video Countdown And How To Watch
If you're planning to tune in to Apple's World Wide Developers Conference for its keynote next week, you need to know the time and where you can see it. Apple has just launched a page on its YouTube channel so you don't miss a thing. Expected are details of new software for the iPhone (iOS 26, not iOS 19 as you might have thought), iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Apple Vision Pro. This year's WWDC is almost here. This year's WWDC runs from Monday, June 9 to Friday, June 13. But unless you're a developer, the bit you need takes place on June 9 at 10 a.m. Pacific, 1 p.m. Eastern and 6 p.m. U.K. time. Assuming it follows the same format that it did last year this means a pre-recorded movie, likely with high production values, special effects and a smattering of jokes, will be introduced by CEO Tim Cook in person, standing in front of a mammoth screen in the heart of Apple Park, the company's headquarters in Cupertino, California. Don't worry, you don't have to go there to see it. That's reserved for an audience of about 1,000 developers, students and press who have been invited to sit in the sunshine by Café Macs, in Apple's spaceship-like building. For the rest of us, Apple will broadcast the keynote to be watched online. You can go to the Apple TV app or YouTube. Since June 2020, Apple has broadcast the keynote on YouTube — here's the link for this year. The link has only just gone live and right now, it shows the name of the event in pleasantly rainbow-like letters with a box showing how many days until the keynote starts, with the start given in the local time according to where you've logged in from. In the image above, you'll see it shows the U.K. time of 18.00. The words below explain you can, 'get a sleek peek at what's to come this WWDC,' and invites you to 'set a reminder, turn on your notifications, and we'll send you an update before the keynote begins.' There's a lot coming, from a redesigned software across all platforms, to new features. Read all about what's expected here.

Will AI replace Google on your iPhone? Apple thinks so. Here's why.
Is AI the new Google? With more of us turning to artificial intelligence for answers, what will become of the dominant search engine that for so long has been our main gateway to the internet? That existential question came to the fore Wednesday when Apple executive Eddy Cue testified in the Justice Department's antitrust case against Google owner Alphabet. Apple is 'actively looking at' adding AI as an alternative to search, Cue said. Searches on Apple's web browser Safari fell for the first time last month− a decline he chalked up to users increasingly relying on AI, according to Bloomberg News. Google pays Apple $20 billion a year to be the default search engine on Apple devices – a lucrative deal that accounts for about 36% of its search advertising revenue, analysts estimate. Alphabet shares plunged 8% in afternoon trading on the news. Apple shares fell 2% after Cue's comments. Neither company responded to a request for comment. Eddy Cue, Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services for Apple Inc.,discusses the company's tvOS at the company's World Wide Developers Conference in San Francisco, California, U.S. June 13, 2016. AI search providers such as OpenAI and Perplexity will eventually supplant Google and other conventional search engines, Cue said Wednesday. Apple plans to add those options in Safari down the road. 'Prior to AI, my feeling around this was, none of the others were valid choices,' Cue said, according to Bloomberg. 'I think today there is much greater potential because there are new entrants attacking the problem in a different way.' That's a big reason Google is flooding the zone with AI-generated answers in search results. On the company's earnings call last month, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai told analysts its Gemini AI technology has increased search volume. Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives said it was a 'smart move' by Apple. 'This is a shot across the bow against Google and Apple is hedging its bets on AI partners,' Ives told USA TODAY. D.A. Davidson analyst Gil Luria told Reuters that losing exclusivity with Apple would have 'very severe consequences for Google even if there are no further measures." Apple Bolsters Supply Chain with India Plants
Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has kicked off iPhone production at a new Tata Electronics plant in Hosur, India, with Foxconn's $2.6 billion Bengaluru facility set to roll out its first units in May. Warning! GuruFocus has detected 2 Warning Sign with META. The Tata plant, which started operations this month, can crank out 300500 older-model iPhones per hour on a single assembly line, while Foxconn's initial line in Karnataka will soon mirror that pace. Taken together, India's emerging iPhone hubs shipped a record 600 tonsroughly $2 billion worth of devicesto the U.S. in March, with Foxconn accounting for $1.3 billion. Foxconn plans to assemble 25 million30 million iPhones domestically this year, more than double its 2024 output, and Apple reportedly aims to shift U.S.-sold iPhone assembly entirely to India by 2026. When fully built out in December 2027, the Foxconn plant is slated to create 50,000 jobs and add multiple assembly lines. These moves come as Apple races to diversify its supply chain beyond China, where rising U.S. tariffs and geopolitical tensions have clouded the outlook. Though the Trump administration has temporarily exempted smartphones from U.S. tariffs, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo has warned that exclusions could end, reinforcing Apple's urgency to spread production risk. India's focus on higher-volume, older models gives Apple a foothold while it fine-tunes newer iPhone lines back in China. Investors should care because boosting Indian output can shield Apple from tariff shocks and provide a springboard for future growth, but the transition carries execution risks: quality control, logistics bottlenecks and workforce training could all trip up production targets. GuruFocus's Forecasts tool suggests that supply-chain diversification is a key factor in AAPL's long-term valuation, offsetting concerns about peak iPhone demand. With first-quarter results out and Q2 guidance due in late July, markets will be watching for any mention of Indian volumes in Apple's next earnings call. Meanwhile, Apple's World Wide Developers Conference in June could offer the first public showcase of devices Made in India, cementing the country's role in the iPhone saga. Apple's GuruFocus Value (GF Value) stands at $193.95, yet the stock currently trades at $210.77reflecting a premium of roughly 8.4%. More conservative models, however, paint a different picture. The earnings power model values Apple at just $60.97, indicating that cautious assumptions around future cash flows severely compress the company's implied profitability. Meanwhile, its net current assets come in at a negative $9.58, reinforcing the idea that Apple's book value is heavily reliant on intangible assets. An earnings-based discounted cash flow (DCF) model estimates fair value at $165.43more than 20% below today's price. Similarly, valuation based on median price-to-sales multiples lands around $127.37, highlighting Apple's premium revenue multiple. Free cash flow projections suggest a valuation of $93.31, less than half of the current trading price. Other methods, including Peter Lynch's valuation ($102.39) and a traditional DCF based on free cash flow ($131.67), also lag well behind market levels. Notably, Apple's tangible book value sits at just $4.44 per share, underscoring that its valuation is built on brand strength and future growth rather than hard assets. In sum, Apple trades between 7% and 64% above nearly all fundamental benchmarkssuggesting investors are pricing in long-term innovation and sustained expansion of its services ecosystem. Any slowdown in these areas could prompt a significant revaluation. This article first appeared on GuruFocus. Sign in to access your portfolio

WWDC 2025: Exactly When Apple Will Hold Its Next Big Special Event
Apple has regular special events that you can look forward to. Biggest is the September event when that year's iPhones will be revealed. Sometimes there's an October event, often focusing on the Mac. And occasionally there's a little something in the spring, like last year's iPad Pro event. But there's one event that is a shoo-in: the World Wide Developers Conference. Here's what you need to know. WWDC June 2024 I mean, it nearly always is, so that's an easy bet to place. But exactly when in the month should we expect it and when will we know for sure? In recent years, Apple has held Dub Dub, as it's affectionately abbreviated, in the first or second week of June. Last year it ran from Monday, June 10 to Friday, June 14. The same structure is usually in place, with a keynote on the Monday morning, a State of the Union discussing the Apple platforms and a huge number of sessions for developers. It's the keynote that's of most interest because that's when Apple reveals its slew of new software to developers and the world. There may or may not be hardware revealed—Apple Vision Pro was a recent 'one more thing' at the 2023 WWDC—but the software is always revealing. Apple CEO Tim Cook with Apple Vision Pro at WWDC 2023 Read between the lines and you get a glimpse of the direction of travel for Apple, as well as clear details of what will be coming to current iPhones, iPads, Macs and Apple Watches for instance. So, it'll start on a Monday, and it always kicks off at 10 a.m. local time. Since it's held in Apple's home, that means 10 a.m. Pacific (1 p.m. Eastern, 6 p.m. U.K.). The question is, which Monday? Early June is always favorite, so I'm guessing that only two dates apply: Monday, June 2 or Monday, June 9. It really could be either, though my gut tells me that the second of those two dates is more likely. Last year, Apple announced the dates on March 26, so it's possible we'll hear in the next days.
