Xiaomi Could Bring Satellite SMS Feature With New Redmi Note Phone But Not In India

Last Updated: Redmi Note series could be getting a major upgrade from Xiaomi when it launches this year but its support could be limited. Xiaomi is tipped to bring satellite tech to one of the upcoming Redmi Note phones but its availability could be limited to select regions. Apple introduced the satellite SMS feature with the iPhone 14 model in the US and since then we have seen more Android brands support the technology via different partners. Xiaomi could become the latest in this list with the Redmi Note 15 series getting the upgrade. The details coming from China suggest the Redmi Note 15 Pro model and its highest variant could get satellite compatibility. Redmi Note For Satellite Upgrade: What We Know A tipster named Wylab shared the details about the upcoming Redmi Note 15 Pro+ model that is going to support the satellite-based SMS feature with the help of Baidu's network in China. If Xiaomi does manage to make this tool official, we could finally get more affordable phones with the premium satellite feature. Globalstar and Starlink are the other satellite service providers for mobile devices, who help Apple and T-Mobile cater to their customers, respectively. Satellite tech has shown its worth in different ways. People usually getting stranded in remote and no-network areas have found the feature reliable, allowing them to connect with the emergency services. If the Redmi Note phone does get the feature, we expect Xiaomi to keep it limited to select regions and possibly make it a China-exclusive feature because of the service provider. The company was also said to be looking at ending its partnership with Leica for the camera system but Xiaomi refuted those rumours and assured that both the brands will continue to work in the future and develop new-gen products that reflect their focus on innovation and quality. In the meanwhile, Redmi is planning to launch a new mid-range phone in India called the Redmi 15 5G that promises to pack a 7,000mAh battery into a sleek device. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
