Vivo X Fold 5 Is A Foldable That Can Be Used Like A Regular Smartphone
Last Updated: Vivo X Fold 5 has the displays, power and even the cameras to back up its premium claims but is that enough to warrant its price tag? Vivo showed us foldables can be powerful and a tough match for the candy bar phones with the X Fold 3 Pro and now it is back with the sequel in the form of the X Fold 5. The new form factor has gotten lighter without compromising on the other essentials like displays, battery and even the cameras. Priced at Rs 1,49,999 the X Fold 5 undercuts its closest rival by around Rs 30,000 but that also means you get the year-old Snapdragon flagship chipset under the hood. But does the all-round package of the X Fold 5 give it the right push to become a strong contender to be your regular device? We used the foldable as our primary device for a few weeks to find the answer. The X Fold 5 dimensions have come down, just like the new Galaxy Z Fold 7 from Samsung. The Vivo foldable offers 4.3mm in the unfolded state, and 9.2 mm when you fold it. It also weighs 217 grams which is a big drop from the 239 grams on the X Fold 3 Pro version. Basically, the new design tweaks have made the X Fold 5 friendlier inside the pocket and even when you have to hold it for use. We were comfortably able to hold it in one hand, without feeling any heaviness or bulkiness. This is the closest a foldable has come to being as compact as a regular smartphone. It also gets IP58 and IP59+ rating to protect against dust and high pressure water jets. The back panel is made of glass fiber which does get slippery and the giant camera module makes its presence felt with the protrusion. You can clearly see the USB C port being as slim as the device and that shows the amount of engineering that has made it possible to make the X Fold 5 the way it is this year. The speakers are loud but we would have liked them to offer more punch and details. The X Fold 5 covers the display basics quite well. You have a 6.53-inch LTPO AMOLED cover display with 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ and even Dolby Vision. The inner 8.03-inch AMOLED display also gets all these features. The screen protection on the cover is also quite reliable and a few drops on the ground is a testament to those claims. The end result is a functional cover screen that lets you do most of the work. Be it picking up calls, checking social media or browsing the web. You can even reply to messages without unfolding the screen. When you do that, the luxury of having an 8-inch screen estate opens up new avenues, and not just limited to watching videos or movies. The displays are crisp, the colours are punchy and viewing them is not an issue for the eyes. The Power You Get Vivo seems to have played the smart move by using last year's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset with 16GB RAM instead of upgrading to the 8 Elite version. It saves on the higher cost of the latest SoC, and seems to be using that to make other aspects better. The raw performance of the 8 Gen 3 is hard to question but when you are looking to buy the latest flagship device, people generally expect to have the latest of everything. Having said that, the 8 Gen 3 running on the X Fold 5 is no slouch and with 16 gigs on board along with 512GB storage, you will never feel wanting for power. You get some heating while using the camera or making a video call but the general feedback of the hardware will not give you complaints. When you combine this setup with the Funtouch OS 15 version on this device, you see new ways to multitask. The Origin Workbench is a unique twist that lets you access multiple apps on the big screen, and all of them are running in the foreground. Let's say, you have YouTube, Docs and mail open through the panel, the video will be audible, and the inbox will refresh right in front of you. You get a panel at the top of the screen, and once you enable the feature from the settings, the workbench mode works to a good effect. Unlike Samsung, Vivo is only offering 4 OS upgrades for its foldable, and not really a flagship class support these days. The Funtouch OS 15 still feels limiting and it needs some level of polishing to make it as intuitive as the One UI version. The Zeiss Effect Vivo is offering a triple camera setup on the X Fold 5 which gets you a 50MP wide sensor with OIS, a 50MP periscope telephoto lens with OIS, and a 50MP ultrawide angle lens. The Zeiss optics sensor delivers clear, detailed photos with good dynamic range. The low light imaging is also quite effective with the right amount of shadows not letting the details go away. Having OIS on the periscope lens also gives you stable shots even when you have to be at a distance from the subject to clearly get the frame. The ultrawide is the weak of the trio, and its colour inconsistency can be annoying at times. The skin tones are mostly placid but you can turn off the mode to get better details in portraits and selfies. The Foldable That Lasts While Samsung has played it safe with a 4,400mAh unit on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Vivo offers a silicone carbon 6,000mAh battery that supports 80W wired and 40W wireless charging speeds. You even get the charger in the box, which Samsung doesn't. This is the biggest battery we have seen on a Fold till date, and the results were evident. The PCMark score of 20 hours doesn't really justify its real-life usage endurance but nevertheless it is better than other foldables. top videos View all We got close to 8 hours of screen-on time with moderate usage of Wi-Fi, 5G, surfing the web, using social media and more. While pushing the device further with heavy usage of mobile hotspot gave us figures of around 4 hours which is equally decent. The built-in battery can go up to 100 percent in less than an hour which most people would love for its size. Vivo X Fold 5 is a solid upgrade on the X Fold 3 Pro version and a strong contender to rival the Galaxy Z Fold 7. It has the right dimensions, the displays are impressive, and even the cameras show their worth. Yes, the use of last year's chipset will have some of you apprehensive but the performance is not lacking. vivo X Fold5 in for review
This is the vivo X Fold5 and it's coming to a few global markets! The phone is the successor to the vivo X Fold3 and X Fold3 Pro. There is not going to be an X Fold4, and it's likely that this X Fold5 will be the vanilla and Pro in one. The vivo X Fold5 ships with a USB-A to USB-C cable, a 90W charger, and a case. Vivo pushed the envelope with the design of the X Fold5. It's thinner than its predecessor - 9.2mm vs 11.2mm when folded, 4.3mm vs 5.2mm when open. That's a big difference. The new phone is also lighter at 224 grams compared to the old phone's 236 grams. The X Fold5 is now dust protected with an IP rating of IP58/IP59+. It's not completely dust-tight, that would mean a rating of IP68, but it's better than its predecessor, which had no official dust protection. The vivo X Fold5 Both the cover screen and the inner one have almost identical specs - 6.53-inch and 8.03-inch, respectively, both LTPO 120Hz 10-bit panels, but the cover screen has a higher theoretical peak brightness at 5,500 nits. Camera-wise, the vivo X Fold5 is a bit of a side-step to its predecessor. The main camera is a 50MP unit with a brighter f/1.6 lens, but has a smaller 1/1.56-inch sensor (vs 1/1.3-inch). The ultrawide angle has the same-sized sensor but a different 15mm f/2.1 lens; it still has phase detect autofocus. The zoom camera has a similar sensor to its predecessor (50MP 1/1.95-inch vs 64MP 1/2.0-inch), but a zoomier 85mm f/2.6 lens (vs 70mm f/2.6). Vivo also increased the battery by 5%, it's now a 6,000mAh unit. There's also a new custom button in the top right of the phone, which toggles between Vibration and Ring mode, and can flick on the flash - nice! The custom button is tiny Book-style foldables are getting better and better! Here are possibly the best three around, from left to right - the Honor Magic V5, the vivo X Fold5, and the Galaxy Z Fold7, which has finally caught up to the competition on hardware! Honor Magic V5, vivo X Fold5, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7

vivo X Fold5 dimensions and battery capacity revealed
The vivo X Fold5 will be announced on June 25 (Wednesday next week), but the company is already teasing some key aspects of the phone. For example, earlier this month it posted this image that compared X Fold5's thickness against the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Another teaser showed that the new model is lighter than the X Fold3 Pro. Neither teaser offered concrete numbers, though. vivo X Fold5 Now vivo exec Han Boxiao has decided to remove some of the ambiguity – 'the X Fold5 is about 2mm thinner and 20 grams lighter' than the X Fold3 Pro. That would mean a 216g phone that measures 9.2mm thick when closed (sub 5mm when opened, but the exact number depends on the hinge design). Unlike other brands pursuing thinness, vivo is not sacrificing battery life – the new model will have a 6,000mAh battery, 300mAh more than the thicker and heavier older model. This will be achieved with the industry's first fourth-generation silicon anode, writes Han. The silicon content will be 2.5x higher, which will increase battery density by 13%. Additionally, the battery will feature a second-generation semi-solid electrolyte, which will allow it to remain functional to very low temperatures of -30°C (-22°F). vivo X Fold5's 6,000mAh battery Previous teasers have told us that the vivo X Fold5 will set a new benchmark for ingress protection on foldables – IP5X for solids and IPX9+ for water. IP48 is the current best rating on a foldable. The IPX9+ rating specifically refers to the ability to fold and unfold the phone while it is submerged in water. vivo X Fold5 Additionally, the X Fold5 will use LTPO 8T panels for the cover and main displays, which will be able to reach 4,500 nits peak brightness and will boast Zeiss Master Color calibration. Vivo X Fold 5 display details and key details officially revealed
Vivo is prepared to launch its new foldable mobile phone, the Vivo X Fold 5, soon. The company's product manager, Han Boxiao, recently posted an image on Weibo revealing the device's internal screen. This has provided insight into the display technology it will use. Let's take a look at what the upcoming foldable from Vivo has to offer. According to the image, the Vivo X Fold 5 is expected to use advanced LTPO 8T panels on both its inner and outer screens. These panels support an adaptive refresh rate that adjusts to the content being displayed, helping to deliver smooth visuals for activities such as scrolling and gaming. The phone is built with a high pixel density and resolution to enhance the display clarity. This level of brightness will improve screen visibility even in bright outdoor conditions. The device also features full-brightness high-frequency PWM dimming as per the shared image. This, combined with TÜV Rheinland's Global Eye Protection 3.0 certification, aims to reduce eye strain during long usage sessions. Vivo has also partnered with Zeiss to tune the colour accuracy on both screens for precise and consistent colour output. This button replaces the alert slider found on the previous X Fold 3 models. Vivo has not yet confirmed the button's function, but it might offer programmable shortcuts or quick access to certain features. Vivo has also confirmed the X Fold 5 will be lighter and thinner than its predecessor. It weighs 209 grams, which is less than the 219 grams of the X Fold 3 and the 236 grams of the X Fold 3 Pro. When unfolded, the phone measures 4.3mm in thickness, and when folded, it is 9.33mm thick. While these dimensions are slightly larger than those of the Oppo Find N5, the device still ranks among the slimmer and lighter foldable phones on the market. Also read: iOS 19 to take to boost iPhone's battery life with help of AI Moreover, Vivo has stated that the X Fold 5 will offer strong durability. It can operate in cold temperatures down to minus 20 degrees Celsius and has IP5X dust resistance and IPX9 water resistance ratings. Reports suggest that Vivo plans to launch the X Fold 5 in India, potentially on July 10, alongside the Vivo X200 FE. This would mark the first time the standard X Fold model becomes available in the Indian market, as earlier only the premium X Fold 3 Pro was sold there. The launch could expand foldable phone options for Indian consumers.
