Genesis recently revealed its X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible concepts based on its full-size G90 sedan for the first time at the Seoul Mobility Show in Goyang, Korea. While Genesis' X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible are concepts, they look close enough to something you'd see in a car dealership today or at least a few years from now. It's also essential to remember that the GV80 Coupe is an example of a Genesis production model that was initially a concept. The fact that Genesis' X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible concepts are based on the automaker's flagship G90 is another positive indicator that production for these two designs is a distinct possibility.

It blends the roof and cant rail lines to better resemble a sports car. Drawing inspiration from olive trees, it matches the vibrant green exterior paint with a matching green and brown wood interior. The second concept is called the X Gran Convertible. With the soft-top down, we can see that Genesis pushed the beltline further back to provide separation between the body and the roof. Instead of the olive tree, the X Gran Convertible is inspired by Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, leading it to take on a more bold color scheme. Genesis X Gran Concepts Ditch Doors and Bring Bold Interiors
Genesis is showing the G90-based X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible at the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show. These two concepts feature significant modifications from the standard, four-door Genesis G90 sedan. The Genesis Design team studied the olive tree for inspiration for the X Gran Coupe concept and wine for the X Gran Convertible. If you thought the oversized, personal-luxury coupes and convertibles were going away, the folks at Genesis might have something to change your mind at the Seoul Mobility Show. The X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible lean on the long history of luxe two-door coupe and convertible land yachts. These two concept cars might both be based on the Genesis G90, but they sport significant changes from their series production counterpart. Kicking it off, the X Gran Convertible's biggest change from the standard G90 is hard to miss. The cloth folding top is lower than the traditional G90 and works with an extended beltline. Alongside the altered silhouette and folding top, the X Gran Convertible sports two fewer doors, widened fenders, and a finish that takes inspiration from fine wine grapes. The convertible's fixed-top counterpart features many of the same changes. The X Gran Coupe also gets wider fenders, two fewer doors, and a lowered roofline, but the X Gran Coupe is exactly that: a fixed-top machine. Taking inspiration from the olive tree, this X Gran Coupe is finished in deep green. Inside this upscale coupe concept, you'll find a quilted leather headliner, leather tanned from wastewater from an olive manufacturing facility, and microperforated olive wood that makes an olive-themed atmosphere lighting array. While these concepts look ready for a trip to your favorite Michelin-star restaurant, there is one minor hitch: they're just concepts. Considering market trends, with BMW and Mercedes-Benz both rethinking the personal luxury cruiser, it's doubtful that Genesis will turn these loose to the wild. That said, the next-generation G90 offering a two-door variant now has a longshot chance of joining the roadway. Regardless, these two concept cars are not currently slated for the assembly line. The Genesis X Gran Coupe Concept Is a Korean Take on the Lexus LC
Unlike most automotive luxury brands, Genesis has yet to produce a proper two-door model, despite teasing its customers with concept models like the X Convertible concepts at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2022. The future may hold a different path for the Korean automaker, however — at least, based on how close to production-ready the new Genesis X Gran Coupe Concept and X Gran Convertible Concept unveiled at the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show appear. Unlike the all-electric X Convertible, both the X Gran Convertible and X Gran Coupe concepts are born from the brand's flagship executive sedan, the G90, which currently only comes in internal-combustion form. The design, however, has been significantly revised; if the basic idea brings to mind the Lexus LC or the departed Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet, a glance at the new concepts revives memories of Chrysler's best years of A-body car construction, starting with the tapered rear roofline of the hardtop. The addition of widened fenders, miniature wings, and a low beltline make the pair a veritable homage to the days of boxy American muscle. But there are plenty of aspects of the G90 present in both hardtop and droptop cars. The model-specific front fascias of the X Coupe Concept and X Convertible concepts share the brand's characteristic two-line headlights and the so-called "Crest Grille," which looks vaguely like the outline of Superman's logo. Genesis says the twin models have a more steeply raked windscreen and lowered tops; this is very apparent in photos, as the roofline drops away the further back you look. That doesn't mean that entering and exiting should be hard, though. To allow for smooth transitions, Genesis has lengthened the doors and added frameless windows versus the G90. Luxury car buyers are usually the type to enjoy the finer things in life, which seems liable to be the explanation for Genesis's color scheme on the X Gran Coupe and Convertible models. The hardtop version is officially painted in a hue inspired by Mediterranean olives and paired with olive wood veneer. Italian olive oil has been integrated into the scent of the X Gran Coupe's cabin via the natural leather tanning process, helping jog smell-based memories. The convertible's color, meanwhile, represents Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the Livorno region of Italy. Genesis has yet to clarify if the concepts use a version of the G90's 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6, which makes 409 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque; in terms of performance, the brand has only discussed its ergonomic approach to driving fun, as both concepts feature an aluminum-trimmed three-spoke steering wheel. That's sparse information about its chops, but Genesis models are rarely short on grunt. Here's hoping we eventually see these cars rolling around with a forced-induction, torque-laden V-6 beneath their hoods, ready to startle Mustang drivers at stoplights.
