Peugeot reveals pepper-pot wheeled E-208 GTI that's a huge nod to 80s classic – but there is one major snag

I'M an Eighties kid and back then the best rollerskates were XR2s and 205 GTIs. Two of my older brothers had XR2 s. 5 5 So I went French. Except it was a bantamweight XS because I couldn't afford the insurance on a GTI. Proper laugh when you hurried it. Sad day when I let it go. Now Peugeot Sport has got me all excited by revealing a box-fresh 208 GTI with lots of codes to its great grandpa. Like the classic red paint job, pepperpot wheels, red carpet and patterned sporty seats. It's electric, of course. But hear me out. It's 280hp with a limited-slip differential integrated into the gear reducer. It sits lower to hug the ground. The wheels are pushed out wider. It has specially-tuned suspension and a rear anti-roll bar. Michelin rubber. Beefy brakes. 5 Top Gear Peugeot 208 Gti review Nothing will get past you on a B-road. The only snag is the price. About £38k–£39k I reckon. Have a goosey on and you'll see an original 205 GTI on there, albeit a 1.6 and not a 1.9, for half that price.

The vehicle will go under the hammer in just days FORD OLD TIMES SAKE Retro Ford Fiesta from the 80s set to sell for 4 TIMES its original value – despite top speed of just 99mph AN EYE-CATCHING 80s Ford Fiesta is set to get flogged for four times its original value. The retro motor would originally set its buyer back £4,000. Advertisement 4 A 1981 Ford Fiesta Supersport is set to go under the hammer 4 The eye-catching vehicle can only do a top whack of 99mph and dawdles from 0-60mph in 11.8 seconds But petrolheads will need to dig deep into their pockets as the modest, red 1981 Supersport is going for £18,000. The rare model can clock top speeds of 99mph and can go from zero to 60mph in just shy of 12 seconds. Ford started producing the vehicle to rest the demand for a sporty Fiesta - and it paid off. All 3,000 were quickly sold and the following XR2 was quickly 'signed off' with production beginning a few months later. Advertisement The Fiesta Supersport was a limited edition model using the 1300 Sport as a base coupled with extras from the Series-X accessories catalogue. It comes complete with a Series-X body kit which includes wheel arch extensions, a lower boot spoiler and a front splitter as later featured on the XR2 model as well as the popular 13" RS 4-spoke alloy wheels. It is being sold by Iconic Auctioneers in Northampton and will go under the hammer on May 17. "We are pleased to present this stunning Ford Fiesta Supersport finished in Sunburst Red which was first registered on 31st August 1981," the listing states. Advertisement "It's a left-hand drive and we understand that it was imported to the UK in 2018. "Indicating 48,592 miles it's in simply remarkable condition throughout, as good underneath as it is on top and has patently been restored to a concourse/showroom level with incredible attention to detail and factory specification. Iconic 1965 Ford Racer that starred in Top Gear is so rare only two in the world exist - but could be yours at auction "The Sunburst paintwork is exceptional, the interior has been superbly retrimmed and finished and the engine bay looks crisp and tidy. "It sits on a matching set of Yokohama tyres and is supplied with MOTs going back to 2018 and the current one is valid until July 2025. Advertisement "There is no supporting restoration paperwork with the car, however, that probably doesn't matter when every nook and cranny on the car looks 'factory-fresh'. "These are now rare cars. "If you have a Ford Collection, chances are it will not include a Fiesta Supersport, so this is an opportunity to purchase probably the finest example currently on the market." Elsewhere, an iconic Rolls-Royce which was driven by Winston Churchill during WW2 is going up for auction for an eye-watering price. Advertisement The 1936 Phantom II limousine is going under the hammer next month and is expected to fetch up to £130,000. Always chauffeur driven, the impressive motor became known as the "Green Car" because of its quintessentially British black and green painted body. Former US President Dwight D. Eisenhower once rode in the vehicle, as well as HM King George VI. The touring limousine's A-list occupants even included Field Marshal Montgomery, who was often driven around in the car during the Second World War in the months leading up to D-Day. Advertisement Historics Auctioneers have issued a guide price of between £115,000 and £130,000 for the historical vehicle and said it will be offered to the highest bidder on May 3. 4 The Supersport is being flogged by Iconic Auctioneers in Northampton
