Next-gen Xbox consoles to feature AI neural rendering and cross-platform gaming

Microsoft keeps dropping hits about their next-generation Xbox console, revealing their bold vision to blend AI hardware and unified cross-platform integration. In the latest episode of the official Xbox podcast, Jason Ronald, VP for Xbox Gaming Devices and Ecosystem, confirmed the advancements coming to the Xbox ecosystem. They include new AI-centric hardware, deep ties with AMD, and a unified platform strategy. Building on the decade-long collaboration, Microsoft and AMD have entered another multiyear partnership to develop custom silicon for future Xbox devices. According to Ronald, this includes designing next-gen chips that come with built-in neural processing units (NPUs) for 'Neural Rendering.' It is a new tech that enhances the graphical fidelity of games using artificial intelligence. "What we're trying to do is deepen the immersion between you and the gameplay experience by investing deeply into the next generation of rendering technologies, such as neural rendering," Ronald explained. This AI approach in gaming is not just limited to the graphics; these innovations promise to change how players interact with games and provide tools for developers to create previously impossible experiences. The next-gen Xbox console won't be just an isolated leap. Microsoft is planning to bring a unified platform to gamers; this will make the entire game library accessible across the Xbox ecosystem including console, cloud, PC, and handheld devices. This will be a big leap in gaming, allowing players access to their content anywhere. This vision of a unified gaming ecosystem also hints that Microsoft is considering adjusting their Xbox Cloud gaming pricing structure. The details about this are limited, but this move shows that Microsoft will allow players to play console games on any device they desire. The journey toward this AI-powered future has already begun. The upcoming Xbox Ally X handheld device will feature a dedicated NPU. This will help Microsoft to give gamers a taste of what an AI-enhanced gaming experience feels like before debuting it in their next console. While no official release date has been announced for the next-generation Xbox console, speculations hint at a debut around 2027. Microsoft is poised to bring AI to the gaming ecosystem both through hardware and software.

Microsoft confirms next-gen Xbox – but it will have this one crucial change

The next generation of Xbox consoles is finally starting to take shape. Microsoft has now officially confirmed that we're not just getting one new console, we're getting two: a traditional living room box and a handheld console version. But there's one crucial change. Apparently, these consoles won't be locked into Microsoft's walled garden anymore. That's because they're going to run Windows at the core, which will allow an ecosystem to develop. Read more: I think we've finally got the full Xbox handheld we've been waiting for Xbox President Sarah Bond made it clear that the future of Xbox isn't a single device. Rather, it's an ecosystem that follows you around. Microsoft wants you playing Xbox wherever you are, with full access to your library on any Xbox device you may own and no requirement to buy into just one store. That last bit is the real kicker. Microsoft's new partnership with AMD is about more than just co-designing chips for these devices. The next-gen Xbox consoles aren't going to force you to buy everything from the Microsoft Store. Third-party platforms (like Steam and the Epic Games Store) are going getting a proper support on these consoles. It's still unclear whether Steam is actually confirmed, but we do know for certain that third-party stores in general are coming. Let's not skip past that portable Xbox. After months of rumours that Microsoft had shelved its handheld dreams, the new AMD partnership and Bond's comments about devices 'in your hands' put those rumours to bed. This won't be just another rebranded PC like the Asus ROG Ally. Microsoft appears to be cooking up a dedicated handheld console that lets you dip into the Xbox Cloud, your game library, and those rival stores. It suggests a future Xbox a lot like a Nintendo Switch – but one that talks to Windows. Of course, all of this comes with the usual Microsoft vagueness. We don't have a release date yet, and pricing hasn't been confirmed. If the rumours are to be believed, we're looking at sometime in 2027 or 2028 for an official debut.

The new trailer for Clockwork Revolution is a wild, extremely steampunk ride

To view this content, you'll need to update your privacy settings. Please click here and view the "Content and social-media partners" setting to do so. Two years after it was first announced, we just got an extended trailer for inXile entertainment's Clockwork Revolution at the Xbox Games Showcase, and it looks kind of incredible — and completely over the top. (A man dubbed "The Knob" pisses his pants a minute and 56 seconds in, and someone else later gets cursed out by an automaton doll). Clockwork Revolution is a first-person steampunk RPG set in 1895 in a place called Avalon, which is ruled by the time-manipulating Lady Ironwood. As the customizable player-character Morgan Vanette, you'll have to use her own tactics against her to turn back time and undo the damage she's caused. As with all things time travel, the butterfly effect will be at play. The new trailer, which is over 5 minutes long, shows us this will be one with a lot of action and bloodshed (plus some brain -shed), and a good share of ridiculousness too. We still don't have a release date, though, just the assurance that it's "coming in due time." When it does eventually arrive, Clockwork Revolution will be available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox PC, Steam and Xbox Cloud. It'll also support Xbox Play Anywhere, and will be on Xbox Game Pass.
