Comcast Stock (NASDAQ:CMCSA) Notches Up as Speculation About Charter Merger Remains

The landscape these days in streaming services, and the internet access that underpins them, is still very much a dynamic place with lots of changes, some of which do not even make much sense. But communications giant Comcast (CMCSA) is still front and center, as speculation about a merger between itself and Charter (CHTR) is still in play, despite a recent move from Charter that puts it in a better position to compete with Comcast. Regardless, Comcast gained nicely in Tuesday afternoon's trading, as shares gained nearly 1.5% in the session. Confident Investing Starts Here: More specifically, a lot of people are wondering about a connection between Comcast and the Spectrum brand. This is particularly odd given that Charter only recently set up a deal between itself and Cox Communications, valued at around $34.5 billion. This deal has taken some of the wind out of the sails of those who believe a Comcast / Charter deal is still in the cards. However, just because the Charter / Cox deal exists, reports note, does not mean that there is no future in a Comcast / Charter deal. After all, the linear television market is still a shambles thanks to the growth of streaming services, which means that even regulatory bodies may not look askance at two major operations getting together to fend off a souring overall market. It also does not hurt that the two are already in cooperation with each other with the Xumo streaming platform. A New Baseball Deal Comcast, however, is hardly putting all its eggs in one basket as far as that purely hypothetical deal goes. Reports note that the Texas Rangers baseball team has tapped Comcast to serve as the Managed Channel Origination (MCO) platform for the Rangers Sports Network, a regional sports network controlled by the team. The network in question handles both production and distribution of game broadcasts, reports note, while also handling staffing efforts behind the scenes, among other things. Senior Vice President of Broadcast for the Texas Rangers, Angie Swint, noted 'Their (Comcast's) expertise in managed services and comprehensive broadcast solutions enables us to focus on delivering an unparalleled experience for Rangers fans, while also providing us with more control over our distribution channels and future growth.' Is Comcast Stock a Good Buy Right Now? Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Moderate Buy consensus rating on CMCSA stock based on nine Buys, nine Holds and two Sells assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. After a 9.26% loss in its share price over the past year, the average CMCSA price target of $40.86 per share implies 16.78% upside potential. See more CMCSA analyst ratings Disclosure

NASCAR Channel launches on Xumo Play, anchors new hub on Xumo's streaming devices

PHILADELPHIA (May 1, 2025) — Xumo, Comcast's and Charter's joint venture that offers consumers nationwide a simple, easy way to stream all their favorite shows and movies and proud partner of NASCAR, today announced that the NASCAR Channel, NASCAR's official FAST (free ad-supported streaming TV) channel, will launch on Xumo Play. The channel offers race fans round-the-clock NASCAR content, including classic races, re-airs of the season's events, original series, documentaries and more. NASCAR's FAST channel will anchor a new comprehensive hub for all things NASCAR across Xumo's streaming devices, Xumo Stream Box and Xumo TV. Whether it's the roar of re-aired races, behind-the-scenes stories from NASCAR Studios, or fan-favorite video podcasts, the new destination will bring together NASCAR-related programming available across streaming apps, giving viewers an easy way to dive deep into the culture, history, and adrenaline of the sport. Users can easily access the destination by saying 'NASCAR' into their Xumo voice remote. Advertisement 'Our new partnership with NASCAR marks an exciting new chapter for our brand and for motorsports fans everywhere,' said Fern Feistel, Vice President, Marketing at Xumo. 'Whether watching at home or live at the track we're making it easy for fans to enjoy all the adrenaline and drama of NASCAR through the launch of the NASCAR FAST channel, our NASCAR hub, and on-site experiences. This partnership is just the beginning of how Xumo is redefining the future of NASCAR streaming content.' In addition to the at-home experiences, Xumo will have a physical presence at multiple NASCAR races throughout the season, starting with the Würth 400 presented by Liqui Moly at Texas Motor Speedway the weekend of May 4. Fans in attendance can stop by the Xumo 'Easy Street Pit Stop,' where they'll be able to charge their phones, enjoy snacks and refreshments, and stay cool to recharge throughout the weekend's events. 'Our partnership with Xumo represents an important step in expanding NASCAR's digital footprint and making our sport more accessible to fans across multiple platforms,' said John Dahl, NASCAR Senior Vice President of Content. 'The launch of the NASCAR Channel on Xumo Play is the first of many exciting projects we have planned together.' The NASCAR Channel joins a host of other sports-focused options on Xumo Play, including The NBA Channel, NBC Sports NOW, NFL Channel, PBR RidePass and PGA TOUR. In addition to streaming through Xumo TVs and Xumo Stream Boxes, Xumo Play is available on all major streaming platforms, including Amazon, Android, Apple, Roku, Samsung, Sony, Xfinity, Xumo and more. The simplicity of Xumo's streaming devices is made possible by the platform that powers it. It is the same global entertainment operating system that powers tens of millions of devices from Comcast and its partners across the globe, bringing some of the TV's best features, like seamless content discovery, voice search and personalization, to life. Xumo TVs are currently available in retail locations across the country, including Walmart, Best Buy, BJ's and more, and Xumo Stream Boxes are currently offered through major U.S. operators, including Comcast's Xfinity, Charter's Spectrum, Mediacom, Cox and GCI.

Xumo Play Launches Nascar Channel With A Twist

Xumo, a plug-in streaming platform that also includes live TV, is debuting a Nascar channel. The joint venture between longtime Nascar partner Comcast, along with Charter, enables people to enjoy free ad-supported streaming and it already comes with streaming applications, such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, downloaded already. The new Nascar channel, which is similar to one that debuted earlier this year on Tubi, will be available on Xumo Play. 'Our partnership began as part of Comcast's broader renewal with Nascar, announced in February of this year,' Fern Feistel, Vice President of Marketing at Xumo, said. 'We see our relationship as a win-win for both Xumo and Nascar. For Xumo, it allows us to deliver customers more immersive and meaningful sports viewing experiences with a rich array of Nascar content. For Nascar, we're helping them extend their digital and streaming reach, bringing the sport to a wider audience and deepening engagement with both loyal and new fans." But what makes this partnership unique compared to the Tubi Nascar channel is that there will be an entire interface dedicated to Nascar when someone turns on Xumo. The hub will easily allow viewers to watch Nascar content on different apps, like YouTube, podcasts and much more. 'Creating curated destinations around marquee events, sports, and cultural moments is something we've always prioritized, and something that sets us apart from other streaming platforms,' Feistel said. "The Nascar hub is designed to bring together all content from across services into a seamless, easy-to-access destination. It eliminates the need for consumers to search across multiple streaming apps and services for their favorite races, shows, and more. Plus, with our voice remote functionality, users can simply say 'Nascar' to jump right into the action, making it easier than ever for Nascar fans to access and enjoy content from their favorite sport. 'Fans can dive in right away with a broad range of Nascar content including full race replays, classic Nascar races, original series and documentaries, behind-the-scenes footage, and fan-favorite podcasts. We'll continue to work closely with Nascar to build out our offering, including potential exclusive content that will make the experience even richer. Our goal is to make Xumo the ultimate streaming home for Nascar fans, offering everything from live races to original content.' This is an important partnership for Nascar on the eve of the sport's first-ever streaming deal with Amazon Prime Video. Amazon Prime Video will broadcast its first Cup Series race on Sunday, May 25, the Coca-Cola 600, marking the first time a Nascar race will only be available on a streaming service. 'As consumer habits continue to shift, our partnership is incredibly complementary to Nascar's broader digital evolution,' Feistel said. 'Our platform makes it easy for fans to find and enjoy Nascar content, whether it's on traditional cable, streaming apps or on social media, directly through the Nascar hub. Our partnership is all about making access easier, more intuitive and more exciting for the fan base." Nascar is also Xumo's first official league partnership. The Xumo Easy Street Pit Stop at-track activation will debut this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway. The unique activation will have charging stations, cool-down areas, snacks and more.

You can get Super Bowl LIX in 4K Dolby Vision and Atmos if you're a Comcast customer

If you are a Comcast Xfinity subscriber with an Xi6 box or one of Comcast's Xumo streaming boxes, you are in for a serious Super Bowl treat on Sunday, February 9, 2025 when Taylor Swift the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans, Louisiana for Super Bowl LIX. According to Comcast, this year's big game will be delivered in an 'enhanced 4K format.' To be frank, Comcast is underselling the visual and auditory delight that many of its customers will have on tap. What we're talking about here is 4K resolution with Dolby Vision HDR AND Dolby Atmos surround sound. Yeah. That's happening. While Fox will capture Super Bowl LIX in 1080p, the video feed will be upscaled to 4K using bleeding-edge professional-grade equipment. The video signal will then get Dolby's proprietary HDR processing, enabling a Dolby Vision HDR signal to be delivered to capable TVs, maximizing the HDR impact for a TV's individual capabilities. In other words, the game should look nothing short of stunning. Adding to the visual impact will be a Dolby Atmos surround sound signal providing anyone with Dolby Atmos-capable TV's, soundbars, and home theater systems an in-stadium sonic symphony sure to add to the realism of the game. Be sure to keep an ear out for Taylor Swift cheering from the upper left quadrant of your living room. Perhaps just as exciting as the high resolution, HDR, and Atmos surround experience is the fact that Comcast expects to deliver the signal at 30 Mb per second, which points to a less compressed video signal with deep color information that will aid in the overall clarity and sharpness of the picture. To ensure that high bit rate signal is rock solid for the entire game, Comcast has a proprietary DASH standard with 'edge delivery' mechanism to ensure mass deployment of the high-quality experience goes off without a hitch. To get the full experience, Comcast customers will need a 4K TV, preferably with Dolby Vision (though not required for HDR) and Dolby-enabled devices such as the Xi6 or Xumo Stream Box. Anyone uncertain about whether they have the equipment necessary should check with Comcast, as there may still be time to get the equipment ahead of the big game.
