New Delhi, 11 Aug 25:- The 8th High-Level Meeting (HLM) between the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SCG) was held todate 11 Aug 25 in New Delhi, marking another milestone in the strong and enduring maritime partnership between the two friendly neighbours. The Sri Lankan delegation, led by Rear Admiral Y.R. Serasinghe, Director General SLCG, was warmly received by the Indian delegation headed by Director General Paramesh Sivamani, AVSM, PTM, TM, Director General Indian Coast Guard. The SLCG delegation is visiting India from 10-14 Aug 25 for the HLM and other professional interactions under the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the ICG and SLCG in 2018. The discussions during the HLM centred on strengthening cooperative engagements in the fields of marine pollution response, maritime search and rescue, and maritime law enforcement, along with enhanced capacity building and technical assistance initiatives. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to work closely in addressing contemporary maritime challenges, ensuring safety, security, and environmental stewardship in the shared maritime domain. Earlier, the Indian Navy announced that it is preparing for the simultaneous commissioning of two advanced frontline frigates - Udaygiri (F35) and Himgiri (F34) - on August 26 at Visakhapatnam. This will be the first time that two major surface combatants from two prestigious Indian Shipyards are being commissioned at the same time, an official said. Both ships are the result of an industrial ecosystem spanning over 200 MSMEs, supporting approximately 4,000 direct jobs and more than 10,000 indirect jobs. This milestone showcases the success of the Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives in the defence sector, said an official statement.

The eighth high-level meeting between the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) was held in New Delhi on Monday (August 11, 2025) to strengthen the maritime partnership. According to the Ministry of Defence, discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in marine pollution response, maritime search and rescue, maritime law enforcement, and expanding capacity building and technical assistance. The Sri Lankan delegation was led by Director General Rear Admiral Y.R. Serasinghe, while the Indian side was headed by ICG Director General Paramesh Sivamani. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to address contemporary maritime challenges and promote safety, security, and environmental protection in their shared waters. The meeting reinforced plans for deeper operational coordination, sharing of best practices, and sustained efforts towards regional maritime stability. The SLCG delegation is visiting India from August 10–14 for the talks and other professional exchanges under a 2018 Memorandum of Understanding between the two coast guards, said the Defence Ministry. Separately, the 5th India–Uzbekistan Joint Working Group on Defence Cooperation was also held in New Delhi on Monday. Joint Secretary (International Cooperation) Vishwesh Negi and Uzbekistan's Head of the Central Department for International Military Cooperation, Col. Zafaron Tokhirov, led the delegations. Talks covered defence and industrial collaboration, training, capacity building, and exchange programmes.
